I make a cornbread stuffing with sweet and hot sausage that people seem to love but my favorite side is broccoli casserole that I stuff blocks of sharp cheddar cheese into.
If it were an option, I might've voted for the broccoli casserole. My mom makes a fantastic one, and that was always the best side at our TG table growing up.

Stuffing > Mashed Taters > Green Bean Cass > Mac & Cheese > Cream Corn > Sweet Tater Pie > Cream Spinach

Sautéed brussels sprouts. I'll swear to whatever god you believe in, if you don't like brussels sprouts it's because you've never had them cooked the right way.

Cook up 3-4 strips of bacon, set them aside when done. Right in the same pan with the bacon grease, toss in a bunch of brussels sprouts, halved, a medium onion diced, two or three cloves of garlic minced (or chopped, either way). Cook over medium heat until the sprouts get a little brown, then add a half cup (up to a cup) of chicken broth and cover. Simmer until tender, shouldn't take more than a few minutes. Salt, pepper, done. Awesome.

1. Mashed Potatoes

2. Stuffing/Dressing whatever you want to call it

3. Green Been Casserole (Has to have the Fried Onions on it.)

4. Sweet Potatoes (Not my favorite, but needs to be there)*

5. Cranberries, but not from a can.

*What's the thought on marshmallows on the Sweet Potatoes?
Sweet potatoes are sweet enough you don't need it.

Those blackened slightly burned melted marshmallows are a once a year thing... I think they're pretty important on the sweet potatoes.

The one thing I hate on Thanksgiving is having too many sides that don't work well with each other of the bird. In my 20s, I just started editing. Sweet potatoes? First I cut all the marshmallow and other sweet crap. It goes with nothing. Eventually, I cut it all together. Same with green bean casserole. I'll either do simple green beans sauteed with garlic, shallots, and mushrooms or just do confit of brussel sprouts in butter.

Oyster stuffing. If you can't get the gravy right, just forget the potatoes and break out the blow and the Last Waltz.
Ha, when I lived out in Bay Area a large group of us would get together for Thanksgiving and it always took some will power to get through the meal before the bumps came out.

Tell me about it. My family always had a spread where the dishes make sense - turkey, mashed potatoes (not sweet), stuffing, sautéed vegetables (be they sprouts, green beans or whatever), usually corn on the cob or dishes of corn... things like that. My wife's family, totally the opposite. A honey glazed ham so sweet you get a cavity just by smelling it, sweet potatoes loaded with marshmallows, green bean casserole loaded with crispy french fried onions, stuffing that's the consistency of cake (how my mother in law does that, I have no idea). Then there's the tray of okra, olives, baby corn and cherry tomatoes. It's the most disharmonious meal you've ever seen. I love trying new things and I'm not a strict traditionalist, but things have to make sense!

No relief on the sweetness complaint on sweet potatoes - but we always mashed them with lots of butter and then create a thick topping of brown sugar cinnamon and crushed pecans. Creates a semi-soft crunchy nutty, caramelized with the smooth sweet potatoes. Pretty damn good.

Went with stuffing, mashed potato, green bean casserole, & mac & cheese... Accompanied by turkey, gravy, cornbread, biscuits, & cranberry sauce.

Potato soufflé

Cranberry jalapeño salsa

Caesar green beans

Crescent rolls (for nostalgic reasons)

Gonna have to try this

I've done them with pancetta and balsamic before

What do you do with the bacon? Gonna try this
Up to you - personally, I chop it up and add it to the sprouts right before serving. Makes for a nice crunch to go with them. Or you can throw 'em in the fridge and have them for breakfast or something. Your call.

(Don't chop it up and add it to the sprouts while they're cooking though - you'll end up with a bunch of soggy bacon bits.)

Tough one. I probably like mashed potatoes most of all, but I look forward to the stuffing because we don't have it any other time.

Wife is making:

mashed potatoes

stuffing (traditional and an oyster stuffing she's trying out)

sweet potato casserole

green bean casserole

brussels sprouts (which I won't eat)

turnips

cranberry sauce

Voted mashed potatoes, but in reality homemade twice baked mashed potatoes with green onion, cheese and bacon.
I hear you... Just kept it simple for a poll. Obviously there are numerous variations to the dishes listed, but these are the cornerstones.

For our Mac & cheese, we have really thick cut bacon & breadcrumbs, I can't wait to add crisp!

You had me at bacon and then went bacon grease. NOM NOM!

Wife just informed me that she made cornbread with bacon. If not for the kids I would have taken her right there. This is gonna be good

Homemade cranberry sauce makers, opinion on orange zest involvement?

I'm a fan but I'm in the minority and looks like Ive lost out.

I love almost any side but I really have been digging some nice chopped Brussels Sprouts with toasted and coarsely chopped Hazelnuts lately. Get the Sprouts a touch of crispiness on them...yummy

Or some baked Mac-n-Cheeze with some Wild Mushrooms in it

Stuffing (in the bird) with sausage and a little bit of homemade gravy may be one of the best combinations on earth. If that's all I had on Thanksgiving I'd be perfectly content. Well, that and Mayflower's Thanksgiving Ale.

Might as well add crack to the topping. #### is real.
I am bumping this and the green bean bundles. #### it if you don't want sweet ...they are tremendous.

Tons of bacon.

Wow, that looks positively awful. What's next.... chocolate wrapped in bacon?

Yeah, its indulgent, taking over down south here, easily much better than the cream of mushroom casserole alternative. Best with some teriyaki along with the brown sugar and and butter. Melts in your mouth.
