The 1972 Song Draft ... (1 Viewer)

Can I go yet? I've got 2 songs left on my list, and they are both burning a hole in my pocket.

FW left me a long list of songs, and every song has been chosen except this one...

FW takes:

Ricky Nelson - "Garden Party"

I am between two picks.  I have chosen the lesser of the two in terms of chart recognition since I like the song and artist and don't want to risk it not coming back to me.

"DOCTOR MY EYES" - JACKSON BROWNE

One of my fav artist during the classic rock years.  It might be early but who cares.
that song was on both FW's and Viva's list.
well I am glad I drafted it when I did

Ask that risk of getting trashed, let's just say that any tune that references SoCal is usually on my list. Add alcohol and long nights and you've got a winner.

Ventura Highway

In the sunshine

Where the days are longer and

The nights are stronger than

Moonshine

America
this was one of the other tunes I was considering when I drafted Doctor My Eyes

3.18--Oh, Girl--Chi-lites

4.01--Freddie's Dead--Curtis Mayfield

I probably could have waited on both of these because only Uncle H truly appreciates good soul music, but the sweet harmonies of the Chi-lites and the urban proto-funk of Curtis Mayfield's "Superfly" soundtrack, make these two must have songs.

Another junkie plan, pushin' dope for the man.

A freddies on the corner now.

If you wanna be a junkie why, remember freddies dead.

I don't have anymore picks for FW. He mentioned he will be on around 1 or 2. He is in Chicago (I think) so I'm not sure if he was talking central time. Either way, he will be on soon, and can make his pick up.

Should I wait or pick?

FW has five more minutes, so might as well wait.

4.03 Paul Simon - "Mother and Child Reunion"

There must not be any Deep Purple fans in this one. More for me please.

SMOKE ON THE WATER

Fire in the sky

DEEP PURPLE
Hadn't planned on it, but if it had slipped, I was going to have to take it with my next pick out of principle (plus then I'd have 1 each from the holy trinity of early metal).

SMOKE ON THE WATER

Fire in the sky

I was actually going to take that in the 1st round, but the more I thought of it, I don't like the tune very much. Classic riff and all.In other words, solid pick.

I'm not sure if it's because it's been so overplayed on the radio, or if it's because every beginner garage band in the country can play that opening riff, but for some reason, I would die a happy man if I never heard that song again. That being said, getting a classic like this in the fourth round is a steal.

I firmly blame Beavis and Butthead . . .

Well I took the one I truly wanted in the first. Then left it up for grabs and nobody has even hinted they like these tunes. So I'm just gonna grab them all. Good tunes are in short supply here.

I can understand that. I don't hear it much cause I don't listen to classic rock stations except in a pinch. So I don't hear it all that often. Maybe 2-3 times a year at most. In fact I can't even remember hearing it last year at all. That said, when I do pull out this album. This is the song I only listen to about twice and then I start skipping it... LOL

This was a bubblegum-rock fusion. Kina sounds like what would happen if you took a Rolling Stones song and put it in a blender with a Partridge Family song.

The Rasberries- Go All The Way

Did you hear it at all in 2001? ;)

Was Eric Carmen's "Hungry Eyes" from '88? That would have been a nice two-fer.

Just an idea to help our fearless leader.....

Since he's posting everything in the artist-first then song title format on page one, it would be easier for him to copy and paste the updates if we list our selections that way.

or not.
Ok, Update!Apparently, FL now wants quotation marks around the song title.

Let's try to help him out.

Jeesh!

I'm back. WIll have a pick in the next five minutes. I really missed the boat on Deep Purple. Thought it was 1971 and didn't have time to check.

When UH is drafting my songs, I have to scrap things and reorganize.

:hey: I may not take as much soul as you two, but I loves me some Curtis Mayfield. I better take it while I can. And luckily you left me a better song from the Superfly OST:

Curtis Mayfield---Pusherman
