The 1977 Song Draft (1 Viewer)

Hov's pick:

Steve Miller Band – “Swingtown”
Apologies to the SMB fans in the room, but this song makes me want to throw my radio out the window more than any other song in the history of ever, maybe.Ooo oooohhhh

Ooo oooohhhh

Come on and dance, come on and dance

Let's make some romance

You know the night is fallin'

And the music's callin'

And we've got to get down to Swingtown

Hov's pick:

Steve Miller Band – “Swingtown”
This song exemplified why 8-tracks sucked. The long intro that builds with each instrument joining in, was cut in two - fading out, click, then fading back in . . .

You guys took a bunch of rock songs I wanted, so I'm going disco again.

Samantha Sang - Emotion

With great backing vocals by the Bee Gees. Wouldn't be surprised if they wrote and produced it as well.

Which is the band and which is the song?

I have had to look this up more than once. At least you had the nuts to ask.

The Brothers Johnson - Strawberry Letter 23

Still love the Shuggie Otis original a bit more, but this is a great version of a great song...
Another one I'd have been glad to take. I know this was used in the movie Jackie Brown, but I can't remember where. Was it when Ordell killed Beaumont?

Samantha Sang is the singer, Emotion is the song.

You definitely know this one. The Bee Gees sing the most forceful parts of the chorus ... so a lot of people think it's credited to them. Samantha's parts don't stand out compared to Barry's falsetto.

Yeah, I'm kind of tired of the legwork. You're too nice.

Not something I get accused of often.

I've seen under that rough exterior.

Styx - "The Grand Illusion"

I'm not a huge Styx fan, but I like some of their older stuff, and this is just about one of their best.

Because....admit it, there was a time, long before Waiting For a Girl Like You and I Want To Know What Love Is, that you really, really liked Foreigner. And '77 was about that time. :headbang:

Exactly. I still have some floating around. Last one I can remember buying was Def Leppard - High and Dry. First one I ever owned was Elton John - Don't Shoot Me.
