The 1977 Song Draft (1 Viewer)

Everyone's picked, right?

Time for a few that slipped through the cracks?
Dust in the WindHelp is on its Way

Livin' Thing

Breakdown

School's Out

I'm Eighteen

Sweet Talkin' Woman

Lots of Stuff from Love You Live (Live Stones)

Those all barely missed for me...

Everyone's picked, right?

Time for a few that slipped through the cracks?
Breakdown (Petty?)School's Out (Cooper?)

I'm Eighteen (Cooper?)
I would guess that all three of these are or were thought to be ineligible or they would have gotten drafted.

i tried drafting a petty song off that same album and it got shot down, so i figured breakdown was ineligible. don't know if i would have taken it anyway.

Here's my set list:

Bee Gees -"Stayin' Alive"

Ted Nugent - "Cat Scratch Fever"

The Eagles -"New Kid In Town"

Hall & Oates -"Rich Girl"

Odyssey - "Native New Yorker"

Barbra Streisand - "Evergreen"

Sanford Townsend Band - "Smoke From a Distant Fire"

Atlanta Rhythm Section - "So Into You"

Rose Royce - "Car Wash"

ABBA - "Money, Money, Money"

Mary MacGregor - "Torn Between Two Lovers"

Rod Stewart - "You're In My Heart (The Final Aclaim)"

This won't win, but it's a classic line-up of songs on the radio in 1977.
argh. i already did it.
sorry, bro.
no problemo.

Thanks for setting up the polls, am.  I'm commissionered out.
killernerd and i have talked about co-commishing before, so maybe we could do the band draft.
Zilla said he'd do it but I'm not sure if he'd "prefer" to do it. See what he says.
i'll start a signup thread with the list on the last page. if i don't hear any different, i'll start a draft monday morning at 9ish EST. (tween 9 and 9:30)

Looks like the Cooper tunes were from a live album:During the early '70s, the original Alice Cooper put on amazing live shows, cranking out mega-decibel hard rock anthems and combining theatrics with high-energy performances. But after the band split up in 1974, Alice went in a much more theatrical direction, almost as if the music was secondary to the live performance. Despite the fact that the original band excelled in a live setting, a live album from the era was never issued; AC's first live release turned out to be 1977's Alice Cooper Show. The album wasn't culled from the best performances of his most recent tour; instead it was limited to a pair of shows at the Aladdin Hotel in Nevada. Alice was still in the throes of alcoholism, and all the contributing factors add up to a largely lackluster live collection. Sure, such classics as "Under My Wheels," "Eighteen," "Billion Dollar Babies," and "School's Out" benefit from a crowd's presence, but the production and the performances are pretty darn flat and uninspired throughout.

Looks like Breakdown was a single off his debut album in 1976 and relased again with a different B-side in 1977, according to Allmusic. Not sure what's up with that.

I see. Not sure if the Petty would be eligible, but I'm guessing the Cooper would be.

and what was the final #?

20 x 20?
I pulled that out of my ###, but if that sounds reasonable to everyone, we could do that.
done.you kids are more than welcome to come hang out at the new thread when it's up.

gonna keep the signup and the draft threads seperate though.

RMoG's pick:

Jeff Beck - "Freeway Jam"

Off of Jeff Beck With the Jan Hammer Group Live

Pretty funny review:

Review  by William Ruhlmann

Jeff Beck toured to promote Wired, backed by a jazz fusion group led by synthesizer player Jan Hammer. This straightforward live souvenir combines songs from Blow by Blow and Wired, plus a few other things, and while it features typically fiery playing from Beck, the backup is a bit too heavy-handed and the occasional vocals (by Hammer and drummer Tony Smith) are embarrassing.
Awesome catch!!!
I know that song came out in 1975. Was it rereleased? The Dazz - Brick is a great funk song.

I don't know if I've ever seen a "Band Draft" done.  I say, if you're going to do it, do it big and make it "All-time."
For Zilla, or whoever has the balls to Commish this thing, the following are IN so far:Nigel Tufnel

Uncle Humuna

Print is Dead

JuniorNB

amnesiac

KillerNerd

wildbill

Tremendous Upside

Jethro Q. Walrustitty

JZilla

Real Man of Genius

Hov34

John Maddens Lunchbox

That is 13 so far, by my count. Does someone want to mock up some rules? Should we start another thread? We should probably set a team limit at 16 or 20 at most, so everybody gets some of their favorite bands before we are fighting over Captain and Tenille in the 5th round.

Maybe 16 teams/16 rounds? That is 250+ bands.

Also, maybe require the selector to choose their favorite album or 3 favorite songs or somesuch from each band, so if they are unfamilar to someone, we might have a starting place to grab some tunes from?

:excitedforMonday:
Good stuff.
Alright what's the deal with this? I apologize for being out of the loop for the most part today. Had to go to the orthopedist, things are looking pretty shaky, I have an MRI scheduled for Monday morning. Could be some tearage according to the amount of blood that was in the fluid they drained :X Had a couple/few beers afterwards with my boy beaglemac who is in town. Anyway. looks like maybe I am commishing, maybe not? If Killer and amnesiac want to do it, then I am MORE than happy to concede that privelege.

I drafted Shock Me, unless you're talking about the studio version. I would have taken Rocket Ride had Shock Me been taken ahead of me.:acefan:

How Deep Is Your Love is a near-perfect ballad. Because it was on the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack, people lump it in with the Bee Gee's disco work, but this song is as good as anything they had ever done, IMO.

I'm very surprised it wasn't taken. I really like the song.
