Cincy is a possibility, if neither Rayner or Nugent do enough to secure the job.Otherwise he'll join Carney, Stover, and the Cundiff/Graham loser as veterans waiting for the phone call after a kicker falters or gets hurt.
 
looking at dome kickers with potentially high scoring offenses late, but a couple of situations aren't settled yet:

hauschka vs hanson in detroit

rackers vs k brown in houston

any homers able to chime in?

Houston is still up for grabs, but I don't know how Kubiak can look his team in the eye if he keeps Kris Brown after what he did to the Texans last season. Rackers seems to get the Nate Kaeding-like yips, but over the course of an entire season Rackers should be great with the Texan offense.

 
Just take Janikowski, you know you can get him, he has a week 10 bye so you don't have to worry about a replacement and if you get bonus points for distance there isn't a stronger leg in the league.

 
Over the past decade, Detroit has only been in the top ten in attempted kicking points once (when Martz was running the offense). They have been in the bottom ten five times during that stretch, including the last two years.

P.S. Hanson is ahead of schedule on recovery.

And the Bengals are a team that has no problem signing a kicker at the last second instead of the ones they have in camp. That's what happened when they signed Graham (Carolina had cut him like the day before).-QG
 
He's 2 for 2 on FGs this preseason.

Kicks for a high powered offense: check

Kicks indoors: check

History of accuracy and sucess: check

The Colts are only carrying 1 kicker. If they have faith in him, I don't know why FBGs doesn't. In fact, he seems to be universally low rated everywhere.

IMO, picking up a top 5 kicker with your last pick is a good deal. And he is a top 5 kicker.

 
Wonderful. Hes a kicker, kickers are irrelevant, you just pick a random one and hope he kicks 3 fg. I dont even draft a kicker, id rather pick up oneextra lottery ticket and pray that injury or a miracle propels him to week 1 stardom the day before games start. If not? hey I tried, ill drop him for a kicker playing in primetime so i have someone to root for. But there was 0 chance that kicker would become the primary ballcarrier out of nowhere, even if the chances were slim.

I felt he was underrated as well. I picked him up in the last round of my draft this past Saturday. I guess people are just concerned he won't be the same after his injury last year. As you say though, it seems Indy's comfortable enough with him, so I'll give him a shot. If things don't look good after a couple of weeks, I'll pick up the winner of the Graham/Cundiff battle in Baltimore both of whom went undrafted. For all the talk about the Raven's offense improving this year, coupled with their traditionally strong D, you'd think there'd be more interest in their kicker.
 
It's been several years since the Colts ranked in the top ten in attempted kicking points. They were 23rd last year, and 24th two years ago. Lotsa PATs, but very few FG attempts.

When MH answers your kicker post, you damn well better listen. He know more about kickers than any mere human should. God calls this guy for kicker advice.With Kyle Orton and no great red zone receivers, snag Prater instead. The Broncos are gonna be stalling in the red zone alot in 2010.

And stop hating on kickers - some of them probably even frequent this board...

...so they can read about the real football players. :goodposting:

I would think that last year they maybe kicked less than they normally would've because of it being Stover kicking instead of Vinatieri.

In 9 seasons, Adam V has been a Top 5 kicker once. In 4 seasons in IND, he hasn't ranked in the Top 10. He's averaged 7.29 fantasy ppg in his time with the Colts. Over a full season, that would project to 116 fantasy points, which last year would have ranked 11th. I'm just not seeing the Top 5 thing . . .Now I need to go clean off to rid myself of the stank of posting in a kicker thread.
 
Ive already dropped my Kicker from my draft last night (Kris Brown) for another one. They are interchangeable. Always take a kicker in the last round or just before week 1 if there's no restrictions on add/drops.

:wolf: This. The Colts offense scores TDs, not FGs. PATs aren't a path to big PK point totals. This is a case of a good player on a good offense who is not great fantasy-wise. :2cents:

RE: SD... after watching them in preseason I changed my mind about the O and extent the holdouts will impact SD.. I was thinking the losses on OL and WR would stall the offense (possibly to the point of making SD just average)... but I think Rivers is the driving force Malcom Floyd fills in at least adequately (if not totally) for Vincent J... I didn't see any huge gaping hole on the OL w/McNeil not being in there... so SD O will (IMO) be able to move btwn the 20's well and provide lots of FG opportunities... infact they might actually be better in the redzone with a solid RB vs LT/Sproles last year.RE: ATL--I'm watching Bryant too.. last year he finished the final 4 games with 7 FG and 10 XPs... and I think ATL O will be improved from last year providing more opportunities.p.s. I agree with whoever said Hanson will be kicking in DET until his leg falls off. If DET ever cut him there would be rioting in the streets--he's arguably the team MVP over the past 10 years. Last year was his roughest year.. but in 2008 he was unbelievable.. 8-8 from 50+ and made 95.5% overall... and he's never once talked about leaving DET....He finishes in the bottom of the league in pts only because DET O has been SO terrible... however this year things should turn around as they're building talent and a solid foundation.. hopefully translating into more attempts for Hanson.

I know, a kicker thread.

Hanson is nicked up, with Hauschka waiting in the wings. This has all the makings of kicker gold. The Lions should be just good enough to get to the 30, and just crappy enough not to get TD's. They play indoors. Too bad their D is questionable at best.

So who will be kicking? Hauschka for kickoffs, and Hanson for the FG's less that 40 yards? KBBC? Even this Lions fan can't figure it out.

 
Hanson is the man no question unless his injury hinders him. Hauschka has a very realistic chance at sticking around for kickoffs and as the insurance plan to Hanson.

I don't necessarily agree with you about the Lions only being good enough to get to the 30 though. This offense has real potential to go pinball wizard with the weapons they are sporting.

I will agree with you that their defense is still quite porous so that should make for some high scoring games and the kickers will benefit from that.

Didn't look it up....19th year? Had accuracy problems last year.Great work ethic always, really stepped it up the last few off-seasons, but even when healthy he's not going to pop too many 50+ yarders.He hasn't been FF relevant very often the last 8 years or so (huge fan of his, wish it weren't so) - maybe once, the year we under Rod Marinelli we started 6-2?With a dynamic rookie RB and a superb RZ option at WR1 I'm not sure this is going to play out like the OP hopes.But even if you're wrong, doubt it will be a huge difference maker.
 
The fact that you posted about a kicker means you're putting too much stock in kickers. The fact that I'm responding to a post about kickers means I have hit an all-time low.

If I recall hihs misses were largely 45+, and had a couple in a monsoon in Baltimore? Pulling this out of my rear... but I watch all the Lions games.
 
In a league full of sane people they will both be available on the waiver wire so why not just wait until Week 1 and find out for sure?

henderson? texans homers? i waited late to grab a kicker and in a 16 team league there were only dregs left and neil rackers...i gambled and hopefully won...i figured given the critical misses by brown last year, that he was out. any texan kicker has to be money given that offense and the stadium...

I know that kickers aren't the sexy topic or even considered important, to most, but I put a lot of stock in them. Both are having good camps but it seems Brown is consistently driving deeper kick-offs. Brown has been playing with a nagging injury but I don't think he played himself off the team. All the cheatsheets are listing Rackers as the HOU kicker. I assume both will be kicking in the NFL this season, just wondering who makes the Texans?
