The 2014 NFL Draft All-Overrated Team: Alabama QB AJ McCarron (1 Viewer)

According to ABC Buffalo's Joe Buscaglia, A.J. McCarron has been outplayed by Nathan Peterman this offseason.

McCarron has been splitting first-team reps with Peterman and Josh Allen. The Bills' quarterback competition is going to go deep into the preseason, but it's not a good sign McCarron is struggling at minicamp. McCarron's contract ($6M guaranteed; $2.9M dead money) should secure his roster spot.

A.J. McCarron - QB -  Bills

A.J. McCarron is working with the first-team offense for the second day in a row.

McCarron had been alternating days with Nathan Peterman, so this is the first time either player has worked with the first-team two practices in a row. That suggests McCarron has moved ahead in the battle for the No. 1 job. No. 7 overall pick Josh Allen is still working primarily with the third-team.

Updating a previous report, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports A.J. McCarron did not suffer a broken collarbone in the Bills' second preseason and will return to practice "soon."

Okay then. It was reported Friday night that McCarron suffered the broken collarbone earlier that evening after getting hit from behind and driven into the ground by Myles Garrett. But tests were inconclusive, according to coach Sean McDermott, and it sounds like McCarron will not miss nearly the 2-3 months a broken collarbone would have cost him. We still doubt McCarron plays in the Bills' third preseason game, and it has already been announced Josh Allen will start that one.

McCarron be back in the starting lineup.

Peterman already fell to 3rd string. And they will give Allen all the time they can possibly can without throwing in the towel completely.  If Aaron is healthy, they let him get squished for as long as they can.

A.J. McCarron completed 13-of-34 passes for 156 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions Thursday in the Bills’ preseason finale against the Bears.

McCarron added 54 yards and another touchdown on six rushing attempts. He was also sacked five times for a loss of 30 yards. All of his touchdowns came in the fourth quarter as the Bills overcame a 27-3 deficit to win 28-27. McCarron delivered the go-ahead touchdown on a six-yard strike to Keith Towbridge with 13 seconds remaining. This was McCarron’s first game action since injuring his collarbone/shoulder two weeks prior. Bills coach Sean McDermott hasn’t made it official yet, but all signs point to first-round rookie Josh Allen starting Week 1 with McCarron serving as his backup.

Texans agreed to terms with QB A.J. McCarron, formerly of the Raiders.

McCarron joins his fourth team in the last 12 months and will be Deshaun Watson's backup in Houston, replacing Brandon Weeden, who is a free agent. Once talked about as a potential starter during his Bengals days, McCarron has proven time and again being a clipboard-holder is his NFL ceiling.

A.J. McCarron is expected to miss the entire preseason after injuring his right throwing thumb in Tuesday's practice.

McCarron was hurt on a follow-through when his thumb banged against a helmet. The Texans have Joe Webb behind Deshaun Watson, but they'll need to sign another quarterback to make it through the summer. Brandon Weeden has already been floated as a potential solution.
