The Apple iPhone Thread (7 Viewers)

It's almost always better to try and get one at a store. I got my 5 at radio shack a few days after release. They were keeping a list and were getting one or two in each day, calling the list and selling it to the first person who said "I'll be there within an hour." I didn't even know the size and color I was getting until I arrived to buy mine.

I wanted the 64 and didn't want gold.

Why the 64? What are you storing on it?

64 may a bit much, but 16 is too small. Next time I'll be sure to get at least the 64. I don't have any music on my phone but take lots of pictures and it fills up fast.

Fair enough, but I'd much rather wait 3 weeks than go through this hassle, personally.

The base shouldn't even be 16 anymore, sort of ridiculous. Almost as ridiculous as the 8 was before. It can be a pain, but next time I upgrade it will be the base version again. When you go to sell them, the extra memory never nets you the $100 more you pay up front. They know they make a killing selling the 32 and 64, so they don't upgrade the base to 32.

This is true. You don't recoup it. But I probably would get $100 of extra value from having the larger model over the course of two years.

Probably. I am going to really check out all the radio apps and dump most of my music. That is the bulk of my storage. I just need to see how much free space is left after IO7 gets installed (downloading now).

Wow, I just installed iOS 7 on my iphone 5 and I absolutely hate it. Any way to go back to the old look?
iTunes>Restore backup
It can't be that easy, can it? I seem to remember it was complicated/impossible to undo an OS update in the past...
It should be simple, that's what I did when I removed the iOS 7 beta a few months back. Wasn't a big deal.
This doesn't work. Once you go to 7 you can't go back to 6, but I assume someone has come along and mentioned this. You need to go get a phone off craigslist.

why would you buy a phone without picking the size and color?

Guys that stayed up to order online, why not just go to the store and buy it today. Shouldnt all stores have them in stock

Just curious
Work.

Got home from it late enough to hang out by the computer at midnight. Apple Store wasn't up and running until 12:03!!!! How can they be so unprepared?!?!?!?!!! 1-3 days for space gray 32 to ship, though estimated delivery isn't until 9/30-10/4. The silver would be nice, but it's ruined with the white facing of the front and back. Horrible look, IMO. Just make the whole thing silver, gold or black/gray.

I just went onto the Apple site

Looks like I can keep my unlimited plan if I upgrade

Hmmm

Anyone know if I sign another 2 year contract when I am eligible for a phone upgrade. Is it 2 years as well

yes. Remember hulk dies a little inside everytime someone signs a 2 year contract.

Not an iPhone person, but I've got a question on the update. My son has an iPod touch he texts with through an app (textnow?). He texted me yesterday and said there was an update to his iPod available and asked if he could. I said go ahead, but it may take a while. Anyway, after the update, he tries to text a friend from school. There is some confusion on the other end of the texts, and it turns out the texts were going to the girl's mother he was trying to text. My wife also received on her iPhone all of the texts, both from my son, and from the other mother.

My son's iPod is linked to my wife's apple ID, which I assume is how part of this happened. Is this some known new feature of the update, or did something go haywire through the update?

Because I didn't care. I've owned black and white iPhones and have always had 16gb but saw how I would get more use out of a larger size. so I was cool buying whatever they had.

Just like you said, this is because the apple IDs are the same. This happened to me when my wife got her iphone. I quickly set up a new account for her and no more issues. I dont know why it hasnt happened in the past. I can only assume the app recognized the individual user and the upgrade cancelled that. Some apps may not work the way they should without an ios7 update

well, hate to break it to you, but this isn't a reason why it's better to buy in store. most people care what kind of phone they are getting.

You can go into the settings>messages and select which phone numbers and/or email addresses to use on each device. For some reason when you upgrade it defaults to all numbers and addresses.

If you use different accounts you cannot share music or apps (or can you?).

So are apps running all the time now? How do you close them out of the newly designed "tray" now?
Open the tray, swipe up on the app you want to close.
Thanks!

So is iTunes Radio free? I see a price in the upper right corner of a song playing. I assume that's if I want to buy it. Not that I'm being charged.

Also, I don't have any music downloaded into my phone, yet I'm seeing my library in music.
So does this release have actual multitasking?

i got the gold within 10 seconds of the apple app taking orders (the app opened up to orders a couple minutes before the apple website), it shows 1-3 days to ship.

If the secondary market is paying $200 more than i paid i'll just sell it.

My only complaint so far is the email.

Used to be that it would only look at a set amount of emails in your inbox. Now it sees them all. After the update I had over 200 unread emails showing up. My OCD couldn't handle it. I had to scour through my Yahoo account of emails I've never deleted looking for unread emails.

On top of that, even after I read all of my emails, it seems like the phone still thinks there are emails that aren't read. It'll say there is 1 email unread, yet none show up. Pisses me off. :hot:

Mine too. It doesn't update right away for some reason.

Being able to swipe "back" in applications like text messages and emails is handy. I'm still not sold on the Safari interface. I use my bookmarks a ton and don't like having to click once to bring up the bookmarks menu and once to actually click the bookmark.

For anyone that uses google, I highly recommend the mailbox app

Really makes organization much easier than the stock mail app.

I also just stumbled upon an app that i think is great called groups by guided ways. Since I am now coaching my daughters soccer team, it allows you to quickly email a group and text them as well. You can have a contact in as many groups as you want. Excellent for people that email and text groups a lot. You can also single out people in each group

Another thing is, at work I always have my phone plugged into my computer. Any time I open the phone, it asks me "Do you trust this computer?" I say yes, and I go about my business. But it asks me every single time. Why can't it learn that I trust this computer from here until the end of time?!?!?

What's this mean? I feel like I may be missing out on a cool feature because I'm too stupid to know it.

Say you are using safari......

You can swipe, left of screen to right, to go back a page.

Ahh. Got it. I just realized that if you are in texts, you can swipe right to left and see the times for each individual text message. That's cool.

can you name the text threads by any chance? Like give it a subject?

went do download the new ios 7 for my Iphone 5..

backed it up with ITunes before I started..

download the new ios to the computer and then to the phone

some issue happened before it completed and I got some error message (don't remember the exact note)

told me I had to restore from backup, which I tried but I've been stuck with a screen that says "preparing IPhone for restore..." there is a rotating candycane but nothing else..

been on the phone with apple for an hour already.. explaining this to them is more than just a little painful

I upgraded from my 3GS to a 5 yesterday at Best Buy for $99. Updated to iOS7 via wifi and there were no issues. I like what I am seeing so far.

Today, at lunch, I went to Walmart and upgraded my wife's 3G to a 5C at their reduced price of $79. They charged me taxes on the subsidized price, not full retail. Is that normal for Walmart, or did I get a store error in my favor? They are also selling the 5 for $79. I may return the 5 I bought yesterday, and get it at Walmart.

I had to stop at Walmart to pick up an online order today. As I walk by the electronics counter I ask the old lady did you get the new iPhones today. She says yep but the phone expert is on break. I tell her that's fine I'll stop back. Now I was thinking the "phone expert" would tell me it was the 5 and the old lady had no idea what she was talking about. But to my surprise he had 3 ATT and 2 Verizon 16gb black phones. He said that is all they got in and I was the first one to buy one. This was at 8:30 AM. Worked out great no lines got my iPhone 5s in 10 minutes. I still can't stand Walmart but they were great today.

Phone has been great compared to my 4s. LTE and screen big improvement plus the finger scan works much better then I thought it would.

Edit to add: The phone was $189 at Walmart $10 cheaper then anywhere else I think.

Did they tax you on the $189, or $699?

Looking at my receipt and it looks like they taxed me on the $189.

$14.18 at 7.5%
