The Apple iPhone Thread (1 Viewer)

So are apps running all the time now? How do you close them out of the newly designed "tray" now?
Open the tray, swipe up on the app you want to close.
Thanks!

So is iTunes Radio free? I see a price in the upper right corner of a song playing. I assume that's if I want to buy it. Not that I'm being charged.

Also, I don't have any music downloaded into my phone, yet I'm seeing my library in music.

So I downloaded it to my phone without iTunes and when I hit "install now" it shows "verifying update" for awhile then comes back with "software update not available at this time. Try again later".

I don't care about not getting it done, just curious if it's downloaded to my phone already, why isn't it available? I'm assuming it's still trying to connect to the Apple servers.

same with me. i just think the servers are overloaded. It must have to connect to do some verification stuff.

iTunes Radio is free with adds. Yeah the price you see is the price you pay if you want to own the song.

Not sure why you see your library unless maybe you have iTunes Match.

BTW with the price of iTunes Match $25/year you get iTunes Radio add free.

Only listned to a half dozen songs with iRadio but I'm digging it. I like how I can be working on something and the artist and song pops up in the upper corner. I like the history of the songs so I can got back and look into the artist further.

Not sure how much better it will be then any other streaming service but with it being integrated into the hardware I use and the price being good when you include iTunes Match it will be the first streaming service I pay for.

Help an idiot, please.

  • Correct me if I am wrong, but the 5s is also coming out on Friday, they are only having any pre-orders for the 5c? (Don't get that, but that is just me.)
  • I have a 4, and I was eligible for an upgrade in February. I haven't done so, because of my unlimited data plan, which I really don't need, just because of it's endangered-ness, I am wary of getting rid of it! The Verizon site says it is worth $120 in recycle, can I use that $$$ to help pay for this transaction? Or can I use it towards other Verizon bills? We pay lots towards FIOS!!
  • Does anyone use the hotspot? I have a data plan on my iPad, and am thinking of going higher on my iPhone with the hotspot, and eliminating the data plan. This results in a small savings.
  • What is the big difference between the 5c and the 5s? Again, for an idiot. ;)
Thanks, in advance!

I had the same thing. I don't know if it was coincidence, but I left the house (moving away from my wifi) and the installation completed.

Keep trying, mine finally installed.

I wonder if over the air is better than hooked to my macbook for the update or vice versa
My coworker did his via cell signal and it took him all of 20 minutes start to finish with zero issues. Downloaded it in downtown LA at lunch time, so no lack of bandwidth being used in the area.

Heard that it doesn't take 3 GBs if you do it connected to iTunes? I have space but like to save it if possible. Anyone experience this or always 3.1 GB?

ipad still has 35 minutes left after starting about 75 minutes ago

ipad mini that I started 20 minutes ago is almost done & restarting

iphone that I started as same time as mini has 45 minutes left

starting wife's iphone now

Had this issue 2x. Finally worked when plugged in. Not sure if there is a connection there.

So far: Eh. The design does NOT lend itself to busy backgrounds. I took away my personalized background and I like the look better.

Took me a minute to figure out how to close apps in the dock (flick up).

Not sure I like the multipage folders as much.

New typography is pretty cool...

Like the "Zoom" effect transitioning between apps. If it were any slower it'd be annoying though.

Some of the new icons are sorta random looking...don't really have as much of a "Family" look

New camera is okay.

New photos section is kinda confusing... will have to play wiht that more.

Overall... its a solid refresh but I'm not sure it's quite as great as it was sold as.

Interface is fluid and snappy with no hangs thus far

An app or two will start to load but will crash and I can't get them to open. That sucks.

B- Overall Grade

It has a very Windows 8 feel to it to me. Very unApple like IMO.

I like it so far, although some things about safari bother me. I don't like having to tap the screen once to get to my bookmarks and the back button. It's a small thing but adds to a waste of time when browsing.

Been using chrome and like it. May give safari another look

Kept getting the errors plugged in. Unplugged and updated on wifi. Took about 30 minutes.

It's slick. Love the control panels on the lock screen.

iTunes Radio is not working for me so far.

Otherwise, nice upgrade.

Possible battery saver. Just scanning through the settings app I came across something I don't remember seeing in ios6: Background App Refresh.

Settings>General>Background App Refresh and turn that crap off. Not sure how important it is but it tells you it may save battery life by turning it off.

Decided not to upgrade and wait a few days to see if they release an update to fix some of the minor things. Plus I dont have to delete things yet so that is good

Considering they are seeding three new betas I think there will be some updates.

It is going to be tricky with jailbreaks. The 7 jailbreak should hit soon for the 32s. God knows when the 64 is out.

I'm really liking the upgrade. Some of y'all are just flat out finicky. :loco:

I've noticed response time in safari and email is a lot faster.

When browsing, swipe from edge of left side of screen to right goes "back" in browser, opposite goes forward. Don't need the back button anymore.

I believe this is the new multi-tasking feature. It used to be that you had to open the app for it to be running. So things like Facebook posts wouldn't update until you switched back to that app. Now they'll update no matter what app you're using.

I believe that's what that is.

It's basically the way WebOS handled it, if not an exact copy of how they did multi-tasking. It's not quite the Android method, but it's as close as they will get. They even went so far as to copy the "card" swipe system.

How do I get the weather and stocks to appear in the pull-down tray? Right now all I see are appointments and missed calls and messages.

I really am liking the look and feel of this. It's more intutive IMO. My 2 complaints are there seems to be a slight lag in going from unlock to home or locking. Also, is it taking 2 taps now to scroll all the way up in safari? It seems to be taking 2 for me. I wish they put a scroll to bottom tap in!

Is this worth installing on an ipad?

Love the upgrade from a camera roll sending pictures standpoint. Now you can go into camera roll and select multiple pictures to send to one email. Before I had to send each photo individually.

That makes sense and something I don't need. Well I left maps turned on, I'm guessing that lets it continue the directions when the phone is locked? Left it on just in case, everything else is off.

Ah, I see it now. It's already there. I have to scroll down to see the stocks and they are listed veritcally. I really liked the old version that was a horizontal scroll. Took up less space. I wish the pull-down tray was a "one page" view of things like it used to be. I don't like having to scroll down to find things.

I think this was asked earlier but I can't find it. Is there more resale value in a 4S that's running the most recent ios6 or the new 7? Does it matter?

unlocked and jailbroken phones usually command a $50 premium. Now that unlocking is so easy that premium may have diminished quite a bit. I haven't checked lately.

In general if you want to sell your phone in the future do NOT update OS on each drop.

They may drop a 614 j/b at the same time as the 700 for legacy devices. 614 j/b is in beta now.
