The Apple iPhone Thread (3 Viewers)

This AT&T deal is pretty sweet. Got all 3 12s (1 is a Pro) in two days and just have to mail back my 3 8/8+ when I get the packaging. $2650 in phones for $250 and 3 phones I’ve had for 3 years. Love the new “subsidy” and that they let you do it on all lines. Could have upgraded my 11s but I’ll wait to use some future credit on those. Screens a nice improvement, especially over the 8s.

Yep, we got two like that. Very nice deal.

I've been waiting on the Mini as I hate the larger phone format but wow, the Pro is a beautiful thing.  May just bite the bullet for the camera.

I loved my 8 plus but going to the 11 and now 12 pro has been great. I don’t like the small phones like the 8, but sometimes the 8 plus was too big for pockets and shorts that, well, slid down with the anchor in the pocket. The 11/12 screen size is just like the plus but a bit more nimble.

Got the 12 Pro Max on Saturday to replace my Xs Max.  Shipped/delivered in ONE DAY!  Transfer/activation went without a hitch except for MFA apps for work which is to be expected.  Only a few differences I have noticed:

The good

  • Camera.  OMG this thing is sweet!
  • Display clarity is noticeably better
  • Battery life so far has been a bit better
  • App switching/opening performance is comparatively snappy
The not so good (I imagine these will just take some getting used to)

  • Square edges.  I was used to the rounded edges and the square just feels odd
  • Button placement.  They moved the side buttons down and I find myself searching for them in the old location
I had questions about the size difference, but it's unnoticeable to me.  All in all... I like it a lot.  I'm a nerd, so would probably have upgraded regardless... but it helps that my company pays for upgrades every 2 years.  And I will likely get ~$500 for my old Xs Max so there's that!

I’m going to have to see if I can do something like this

I know my deal was over on the 5th, but I thought I saw more ads about it probably for the Max versions that you couldn’t buy yet. I didn’t want to spend much out of pocket as two of the upgrades were for my sons.

Went from 7+ to 12 pro max. Size is similar with more ""screen" on the 12.

Agree with @keerock on the pros/cons. Moving the power button down is my biggest complaint. Battery and camera is biggest "like". Easy transition from old phone.

Ended up buying the Mini and loving it thus far.  Packs a major punch and has every feature of the 12.  If you're a heavy phone user, I'd go with the standard 12 or the Pro for the battery life.  The mini lacks a bit in that department but still great for the average fbg.

I have a 7 and my oldest daughter has an 8.  What would be the best deal to get us both into 12's on AT&T by Christmas?

My one gripe but I believe they had to forgo the rounded edges to fit the 5G antenna's in

That wasn’t the phone causing the issues, it was your Amazon stock certificates

I went in to buy the iPhone 12 with my daughter the other day. I’ve been off ios since iPhone 4 when I switched to the note 3. On the way in to the store, my daughter told me all her friends who have 12s have issues with their service and WiFi. I thought that was strange. The at&t rep confirmed that there were major issues with the phone in the area.

Decided to get us both the 11 instead. Was cheaper than I expected at $15 a month. Didn’t realize they still give discounts for upgrades. I’m happy with it. I like that I can FaceTime my kids and know where they are with location services.

where are you at?

I am considering subscribing to Apple+ Fitness.  I had no luck finding any info here using their tremendous search function.

Any input on Apple Fitness or direction where to find some would be much appreciated, thanks.

I will be getting the new 13.  Currently with AT&T but would love to dump them and my contract is up.

1. I would like to make the network change now, unless there is a reason to hold off, like a deal when I buy the new iPhone.

2. Is it true T-Mobile is the now the "best" network (post Sprint merger)?

3. Any reason to avoid T-Mobile?

4. Thoughts on any carriers not named Verizon, AT&T or T-Mobile?

I've been loyal to droid forever.

But we just got our 13yo a line, he'll get my old phone (G7 power) and I got the "free" 11.

So, what do I need to know? My case arrives tomorrow, phone arrived today. I'm probably not going to use it until I get the case.

Apple being able to scan your phone for content is a little concerning.
Such a slippery slope.  Of course, child porn is awful.  Who in their right mind would argue against any method to eliminate it?  Nobody!  Not even the pedos because that would out them.  Of COURSE we should protect the children by scanning everyone's saved images on the Apple cloud (or whatever).

But we all know it never, EVER stops there.  Once the power is given, or more appropriately, taken... it's not given back.  And maybe a few iterations down the road they're searching for #### a lot of us really don't think is reasonable or appropriate.  But guess what, too late, you can't get that toothpaste back in the tube my friend.

It is one thing to have the capability in iOS to do so, if there is a search warrant.  It is something else to be actively scanning for anything IMO.

How will this work on Tuesday?  I've never had to get a phone right when it came out but my current phone is on its last legs (broken camera and screen, etc) and I just need a new one ASAP.

I'm also switching to T-Mobile because I guess it's the best coverage.

Do I have to get on the Apple site with 5 billion others on Tuesday or can one just walk into a T-mobile store next week?

Or is there some pre-order you have to sign up for?  What's the call here?  Thanks.

There hasn't been a line for an apple phone since the Obama administration.

Well, I thought I could walk in somewhere and buy the damn thing on Tuesday.  But I googled for info and can only find stuff about getting the actual phone taking a week or two (after the announcement Tuesday), due to various reasons.  T-Mobile and Apple sites show nothing, is "pre-order" a thing that comes Tuesday and is there some kind of online blitz for that?

No idea when/where to do this and just want the easiest/fastest way and would prefer to know ahead of time.

typically they announce it, and then give the date for when you can buy it.  So you will definitely have to wait.  If you plan to buy an older one, wait until the announcement as the current ones will usually go on sale at that time.

How much do you think the 12 will drop once the 13 is announced? My daughter wants the 12 in purple, and is currently eligible for an upgrade to her 8. She's paying, so of course she wants it right now, but I told her to have patience and wait for the 13 announcement (I think she said that's on the 14th?).

Those drops are substantial and are already available from multiple carriers.  Someone here would know if they'll be even larger next week but with the cat out of the bag, I doubt by much if any.  Pull the trigger now and I'd bet the seller would still honor any differences, if it happens.

I haven't bought a new iPhone in ages.  I know someone above said standing in lines are a thing of the past, but do we know if I actually need to wake up at 5 AM to complete a preorder online to have a shot at getting one?  Or can I wait until a more reasonable hour?

Don’t sweat it. Get one at your leisure.

So no game changer.

But really, at this point, what would the technical leap need to be?  Foldable screen that can double the current Max version viewing real estate?  If done right, that would get my attention.  Otherwise, why upgrade my 10Max?

Was hoping the SE Watch and SE(2020) phones would drop in price, my 8 Plus and Series 2 watch are about to give up the ghost, but seeing where the prices ended up, may just go 12 and Series 6 watch.

Frankly, I wouldn't be upgrading my 7+ except my carrier sent me an email saying that the 7 will be incompatible with their service at the end of the year (part of the Sprint/T-Mobile merger apparently).

Speaking of which, what do you think of "them"?

Anybody have any cautionary tales of T-Mobile?  I think I remember Sprint sucking but that doesn't matter now.

Sprint does/did suck. I guess I’ll find out about T-Mobile’s network as soon as I get the new phone, but it would be hard to be worse than Sprint’s.

Got a 13 Pro 256 GB.  Pretty seamless, will pick up in an Apple store in one week.

Had no idea if 256 GB was "enough" but seems to me it is.  I don't game or have a ton of apps and I have iCloud d'loading photos and small vids for like 3 bucks a month.

Now I need to choose a carrier.  The problem with T-Mobile, where I've been leaning, is I can't find a plan for ONE line.  Their big pitch is for 3 lines.  I want their larger 5G capability but what's with the focus on 3 lines thing?  Family plans, of course, but what about single plans???

I should be paying around 60 bucks a month for one line is my guess.  Might just stick with crap ATT at this point.

If you have Xfinity internet, Xfinity Mobile has reasonable prices on cell plans. They use Verizon's towers. $45/month for a single line unlimited data. My wife and I pay by the gig ($15/gig) since we use so little data and our bill is usually $15-$45/month combined. But you do have to be an xfinity internet customer, otherwise the prices are higher.

Now we're talkin.  So if I switch my ATT home internet/wifi service (I stream w YouTubeTV, etc), I could do this.

I guess the only downside is Verizon doesn't have as much 5G coverage as T-Mobile, but I'm guessing Vz coverage is more than adequate for my purposes and area, I'd imagine.  I'm not a gamer and don't go crazy with apps either.

Thanks, will look into it.

I'm thinking of converting to the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Lifelong android user. Talk me into / out of it. Current phone is S10+.

I'm probably going to grab the iPhone 13 from the S10. I have finally gotten annoyed with dealing with any video texts that involve iPhone users.
