SlingPlayer Mobile gives consumers their entire home TV experience, including local channels, local sports teams, video on demand, pay per view, etc. Any program that you can watch on your sofa back home, you can now watch via your iPhone using a standard network connection (3G Cellular, WiFi). In addition, SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone users can also control their home digital video recorder (DVR) to watch recorded shows, pause, rewind, and fast forward live TV, or even queue new recordings while on the road.
I'd like C&P but what I really want is FlashI don't understand why there is no cut and paste still. This phone is unbelievably cool, but C/P should be a no brainer.
Ehh..OrbLive is working prety well now on EDGE. I got to work early yesterday and watched The Today Show over EDGE and it was pretty good.Doesn't look like it will work on EDGE from the story. no new iphones announced at macworld?
It should be $199 with a 2 year contract for the 8 Gig & $299 for the 16 Gig (with 2 year contract.)Decided to go with the iphone over the bb. what did you guys pay for one with a contract?
The slider bar in Orb Live lets you customize the quality to the type of signal you're getting. I have a 3G and usually set it somewhere between wifi and 3g. Works pretty well. I wasn't sure f anyone has recently updated or installed Orb Live, but it looks like you can now choose a live channel and record a show. I tried it yesterday and it worked great. A very nice feature IMO. Also looks like you can record web cam footage too (haven't fully checked into this yet, but it looks like the case). If I had a Slingbox, I would buy the sling software, but since I have a PC hooked up with TV tuner, I don't really have a need for it unless I decide to hook it up to another cable box, but I am then limited to television basically unlike Orb Live.Ehh..OrbLive is working prety well now on EDGE. I've used Google Maps to find my way home when lost in a neighboring county. It doesn't have turn-by-turn directions but by overlaying the directions on the Google map and showing a real-time indicator of where you are that moves along with you, it's good enough for me.Motion-X also has a GPS app that I own that does more of the traditional GPS things, like waypoints and trail (rather than street) navigation. They have a free version of it available here. How is the GPS on the iphone? I will be using it a lot
I'll have to check slacker radio out. I barely play pandora because I'm usually listening to AOL radio.I've been playing with Slacker Radio lately and it's been really impressive. Similar to Pandora but it also has a selection of pre-built genre-specific stations. Almost like a mix of the better elemets of Satellite Radio and Pandora.
The more I play with audio streaming on the iPhone the more I feel like Satellite Radio is doomed. The quality of the station streams are getting better and better, higher speed internet infrastructure is becoming more ubiquitous, and the cost to transmit over the internet is steadily declining as infrastructure grows. In the meantime, Sirius/XM is still paying off the massive fixed costs associated with launching satellites that it's been using for years. If their subscriber numbers go into decline, I don't see any other way for them to monetize their product. Seems like a classic death spiral waiting to happen.
not an app but point your browser to www.seeqpod.com.coolest site since sliced bread. so cool, you know it can't last.phowler13 said:Love concertvault and pandora. Anyone know of a music app that allows you to put an individual song in and it plays it at anytime kind of like songza??
My phone has this...Hey, is there some way to have it ring (alarm) when there is a message on there I missed. As it stands, I have to check. I'd prefer some type of intermittent reminder that somebody called (or texted).
Whoo-hoo! I finally took the plunge and after a week of use, I am absolutely in love with this thing. Wish I had gotten one nearly 6 months ago now. I will eventually wade thru all of this thread, but can anyone quickly recommend a clear screen cover and a carrying case that won't cost me an arm and a leg at Apple Store type prices? What apps are highly recommended? Urbanspoon combined with the GPS has been by far my favorite feature. Really cool to find a new restaurant for lunch at work and then get quick directions there. The free Beer Pong game app has been quite a bit of fun too. I added Pandora but anyone know of an app that links in radio stations from all over the nation? I found one on the app store that was $9.99 but some of the reviews were hard on it and said there were free ones that were better.Very, very happy with my purchase so far.Besides the fact I'm not an early adopter due to price reasons, one of the main reasons I didn't get an iphone yet was because of EDGE, data downloads were fax modem days type slow. They highly tauted(sp?) the wonderful web capability of the iphone when it came out, but the data transfer was awful. Now, I'm not sure how many people were aware of this going in though, I'm sure many were just dazzled by the Apple hype.I'll wait until I see a demo, but if 3G provides the kind of speed that makes many of the features on the phone worthwhile, it will be worth $10 increase in incremental monthly cost in my eyes. Also helps that both my RAZR phone and 4 year old ipod mini are on their last legs.Hi tgnz,Edge was brutally slow. You had to have a lot of patience. I don't. Apple folks are somewhat like Harley people in my opinion (and I probably own more apple product than most here). When you pay more than the going rate for the alternative product, and the hype is over the top, you rarely criticize what you just paid more for. That was my take on EDGE. It sucked. But it's hard to admit it when you just ponied up the extra money to cancel your plan and move over to AT&T.So this news really is significant. But your observation is spot on.Ji don't understand. a year ago, when we talked about the Edge network, all I heard was that it was plenty fast and speed wasn't an issue. now the big upgrade is the move to 3G, and it's supposed to be huge news?Love the GPS feature though. The games, meh. Overall, not very exciting, IMO.![]()
I've seen this if the page doesn't load completely.Came upon something that irritated me last night. I'm not sure if it was a problem with the iPhone/Touch or if it was me. I was surfing FBG yesterday and tried to reply to a thread. But it was a long thread with multiple replies and it wouldn't let me scroll down to the bottom to reply. There didn't seem to be any way to scroll the reply box. Was this just me, or is it not possible?

So the GPS isn't nearly as good as a regular GPS device?I've used Google Maps to find my way home when lost in a neighboring county. Nah, it's not as functional as a dash-mounted GPS. There is no iPhone app that I know of that gives turn-by-turn directions. But with the Motion-X software, it does as good a job as the old trail GPS I have.So the GPS isn't nearly as good as a regular GPS device?I've used Google Maps to find my way home when lost in a neighboring county. Interesting. I was leaning toward using a phone for GPS. What you need to do is hit the return button a bunch of times and then the backspace button a bunch of times until you get to the bottom.Came upon something that irritated me last night. Just forward all of it to another e-mail like google.Just found out the other day that my company is going to BLOCK my work email from being downloaded to my phone. They are only allowing those with blackberries to receive emails. We're on a Microsoft Exchange Server and my contact says I'll be 100% blocked from receiving on my phone.

Can't do that unfortunately. How can they block all but blackberries? There is an Exchange setup for iPhone (Exchange ActiveSync?). Its getting some great buzz but the Blackberry Storm did as well. It would be nice if its as good as advertised , that would be good for everyone.BTW Jonathan Rubinstein is a former Apple guy who is running things a Palm/Not hijacking, but the Palm Pre (2H09) is going to be a great phone and lead APple to improve some of the nagging problems with the iPhone.
They leaked the other day that the geolocater will come integrated to find your location and compare it to appointments on your calendar and in the event you are not where you are supposed to be (i.e. running late to a meeting) it will notify you and send an email to the person you are meeting letting them know when to expect you. Uses like that could really help transition phones from devices we proactively use when we choose to business tools that greatly assist a person in their workday on their own.Its getting some great buzz but the Blackberry Storm did as well. Already have a gmail set up to do that, and was going to set to FW when I turn on my Out of Office reply from Outlook.....however, responding seemed like an issue for me.
