The Apple iPhone Thread (1 Viewer)

Number 6 is simply an announcement of stuff they should have had 2 generations ago? I imagine the device is a substantial improvement over the 3Gs but I don't think this is all that amazing of a presentation.

Yeah, was hoping he'd save the best for last but the Screen and Gyroscope are the "best" features so far...

Number six has already been announced before by Apple, FWIW.

As an iphone user, folders, multitasking and a unified inbox with e-mail threading may not be revolutionary, but implemented well, will do a lot to improve my day to day experience with the iphone.Edit to add: Although not "sexy", Wifi N vs G should make a big performance improvement as well.

True. Two more to go still though.
Kind of hard to wow when your top-secret product was "acquired" against your will and unveiled to the public two months ago.

11:03 am Buy it right on your phone for $4.99. Steve jokes, "If we approve it."

11:03 am Audience clapping.

11:03 am Low light video also looks good.

11:02 am Macro video shots look amazing.

11:02 am Looks professionally done.

11:02 am Now showing movie recorded, edited, and rendered entirely on the phone.

11:02 am Can export to 360p, 520p, and 720p.

11:01 am Can easily switch themes, some use geolocation data to show where you are on a map.

11:01 am Just made a completed movie in only a few minutes.

11:01 am Music cam be added, comes with a few tracks but any music from iPod library can be used.

11:01 am Camera records geolocation in to video.

11:00 am Themes even look vaguely familiar.

11:00 am Again, works just like desktop iMovie on small screen.

11:00 am Showing titles and transitions now.

11:00 am Everything in the iMovie UI has awesome animations. Photos added automatically are Ken Burns effected.

10:59 am Pinching changes scale of timeline.

10:59 am Can record directly in to timeline or choose from clips and photos on device.

10:59 am Showing how iMovie works, workflow seems very similar to desktop iMovie on a small screen.

10:58 am 15 years ago he was working on Final Cut Pro, this year he's working on iMovie for iPhone. Edit with themes, transitions, and titles.

10:58 am Randy Ubillos, Chief Architect of Video Applications on stage.

10:57 am iMovie for iPhone!

10:57 am "It's pretty remarkable, but we're going even further than that."

10:57 am Record, edit, and share HD video right on your phone.

10:57 am LED flash can stay on during video recording.

10:57 am One-click sharing.

10:56 am Tap to focus video with built-in video editing.

10:56 am 720p at 30fps.

10:56 am Camera records HD video!

10:56 am "But that's not all."

10:55 am Quality is incredible.

10:55 am Showing photos taken with camera, look remarkable.

10:55 am 5x digital zoom in camera app and tap to focus with LED flash.

10:55 am 1.75 micron pixel size in sensor.

10:54 am Backside illuminated sensor.

10:54 am 5 megapixel camera.

10:54 am More concerned with better photos than megapixel statistics.

10:53 am Feature 5- New camera system.
Not a flame but can't the google phones export to 720p??I refues to go to AT&T especially with the limited plans now. I'm at 1.9gb with 1 week to go on my cycle. The SIRIUS app is just adding to my totals - lol

Has he gone over iChat yet? Or are we just assuming the front facing camera does that and it's not worth showing?
Hasn't mentioned it, AFAIK. Of course, video conferencing on a phone has been something Jobs has never been a believer in, so maybe it's there and he's not pushing it. Or maybe it's not in there.

So what's the point of buying an ipad when you can buy this instead? A bigger screen?
:yes:Great resolution is nice, but a 3.5" screen is still a 3.5" screen for viewing and touching.
MEH. I'll take the smaller screen when the device can also act as my phone.
I don't think it's a one or the other kinda thing as they are not designed for the same uses or market, although there is some (obvious) crossover in functionality.

This thing will bring the ATT network to its knees. Can't wait until November when I can get a droid on a different network (Evo? The next superphone?)

As much as I am refusing to switch to ATT for the iPhone (network issues, odd pricing/plans now, etc), it looks like it will be another few years before phones yet again catch the iPhone. Might have to reconsider my thinking.

I imagine that many tech-savy folks in the market for the phone are going to have similar sentiments after today, which obviously is not what APple was bond to be hoping for. In other words, I don't know that anything presented today is going to sway those folks who said in the last week or two, "I'm waiting for the new iPhone before deciding about the EVo/Incredible/etc."

 The increased resolution is HUGE news for viewing. This will be nothing like viewing on a 3GS or similar screen. It is especially big for e-books, where the screen resolution now exceeds standard print resolution.

As an example, think of the difference between viewing two televisions when one is standard def and the other is HD.

Based on the screen resolution and video camera?

The HD video is pretty nice, but everything else doesn't seem like "OMG GOTZ 2 GET DIS NOW11!!1!1".

#8 - iAds. Meh.
This is a developers conference. I can guarantee you they LOVE iAds. Huge potential for revenue there.
Don't get me wrong, I completely understand it. Just waiting for one more surprise for the consumer.
As stated before:iOS4 : Was already outlined during iPad announcementiPhone 4 : Leaked via lost phone to endagadget A lot of the thunder has already been stolen here. Have a feeling they've still got a little something up the sleeve.

That's what I'm wondering, basically what they've shown other than the resolution of the screen and the gyroscope is what's already on a bunch of phones out there. The bookstore may be what he's talking about?!

Explain....
 What part? If the latter, weren't you just following Steve Jobs?
I'm interested in what features this phone was shown to have that you think put it a "few years" ahead of other devices.

Fast, best display on the market, thinnest phone with similar abilities on the market, great battery life, gyro, front facing camera, HD video. More. Watch Stevie again. This thing is pretty magical.

What do the other phone manufacturers need to "catch" the iPhone on? And why will it take 2 years? Honest questions.

Not sure what is groundbreaking, they could always use google ads or use adMob (just purchased by Google). I know some were making very good money already.
Much larger market share and their market share consumes WAY more apps. It's pretty simple really. Google Ads can't even compare to the interactivity of this and, frankly, you're talking about developers here. These guys want to MAKE money on these ads.... not talking about companies looking to advertise. Remember who he's speaking to here. adMob is certainly a factor but I don't think there's anything this interactive/integrated just yet. I could be wrong, however.
