The Apple iPhone Thread (4 Viewers)

My wall charger isn't working...instead of going to the AT&T store and dropping 30 bucks, I looked on ebay. Where they're going for 2-3 bucks. Do these work? Scams? Somebody at work told me it could #### up your iphone if you use them. Any truth to that?

No the phone doesn't have a problem it's just you have crappy reception.

Reminds me of the quote in Office Space " we FIXED the problem"
I sure hope their software fix doesn't screw things up for my 3Gs. I have 4.0 installed on my 3Gs and I don't get any signal loss (or drop in bars) as is shown on the various iPhone 4 videos.

 at myself for wondering why I'm dropping calls with 4 bars lit out of 5. HAHA there were only supposed to be two lit, that's why! Is Apple serious?! They sound like some rinky dink startup company.
You definitely shouldn't be dropping calls with 2 bars...so maybe there's a larger issue...
That's what I thought, but I've had my phone diagnosed, replaced, signal strength tested by AT&T and no one has any answers for me. I just gave up.

And if they are truthful on this that its just they have been showing more bars than they should have...are they just admitting that ATTs whole "more bars in more places" ads were complete and total bull?
Read the article California linked. It does qn excellent job explaining what's going on, after reading it I ordered my IP4.
Ive read all of those supposed explanations.Only the apple apologists won't admit this was a major screw up by Apple. And I hope you enjoy yours.I would likely have liked one, but it was not feasible as the signal in my office is bad with ATT (as verified by my friend with an iPhone who loves it anyway).Just got my EVO yesterday and have been setting it up today. Loving it so far and it was the right fit for me.

dude if you are going to lie at least have a bit of truth behind it. If you had an iphone then you would work through apple to get it diagnosed, not at&t.

I don't think you'll catch me saying this wasn't an out of character screw up, but if you'd read the article you'd see that while there is a drop in signal it's not going to be the end of the world unless your AT&T signal is already iffy. Also, reception is better than the 3GS and wifi signal is actually stronger than the 3GS or even the nexus one.I'm lucky I guess, I have excellent service with AT&T in my area, and I planned on getting a case to try and protect this version better than the last, especially with the glass backing.

Yeah, his signal with his iPhone4 are better than his 3GS but still spotty in our office.Other friend has a 3GS and is hoping the 4 has a better signal in his house as he said he has dead spots in his house. That was nothing to me because in the house I figured Id just be on wifi, I don't really care about calling too many people on my cell when I am in the house.

I didn't go to Pep Boys or AT&T for that! Apple was the first place I went.

:lmao:

If I was having what appeared to be network issues (remember, the phone says signal strength is just fine), why would I go to Apple again? They don't own the network, AT&T does. Not sure I am following you here.

You clearly haven't been paying attention to their user base have you?
 With the update iPhone users will display more bars and still drop calls when held the same way. FIXED.

I've only had 4 dropped calls since buying my iPhone 4. They all happened on the same day in a 2 hour span (weird).I'm absolutely loving my iPhone 4. ;)

I wouldn't be surprised if they just took the algorithm from ATNT and never bothered to verify it. No idea when mine is coming in. I have little kids so a suit of body armor is a must anyways.
Seems like they did not use the AT&T formula to start with but are now going to it.
The fix to Apple’s allegedly faulty formula will come from AT&T. ”To fix this, we are adopting AT&T’s recently recommended formula for calculating how many bars to display for a given signal strength,” reads the statement. “The real signal strength remains the same, but the iPhone’s bars will report it far more accurately, providing users a much better indication of the reception they will get in a given area. We are also making bars 1, 2 and 3 a bit taller so they will be easier to see.”

We're talking AT&T here, GB. 'Only 4 dropped calls' is pretty darn good on any of their phones.

I love how you know what the "norm" is. I somehow doubt 900000 users (the "norm") are regularly experiencing dropped calls. I know I'm not and I live in one of the areas that is supposedly the epicenter of it.

Is this good or bad? Can you give a baseline of your other phone? My current phone is over a year old a piece of junk build wise (PRE) and I have not dropped 4 calls since I've had it. I am on Sprint now so not sure what is common with AT&T and the phones they provide. Seems like a lot of calls dropped to me.

No no, it's definitely the norm.Card Trader said it, so it must be treated as fact. He makes apps for phones, and owns an iPhone so he's qualified to make broad generalizations like that.

Now continue using your phone which definitely has terrible reception issues.

Just saw a co-workers iPhone yesterday. It is a with out a doubt a very nice phone with a screen that grabs your attention.

What I like

1. Camera is very good. I was especially surprised with the quality of the front mounted camera. I thought it was VGA but when fed to the screen it did not look that low res.

2. Screen is excellent. One of the best I have seen on a phone.

3. The phone feels much better in the hands than the prior generation.

4. Owner has dropped phone twice and not even a scratch. This is from a low slung sports car but still a drop to concrete. So the durability seems to be there.

5. Calls - He must go outside our building to use it. This one issue makes him want his old 3gs back.

6. Multi-tasking - currently not as good as sold and with out doubt the task manager could use improving. This should get better as App developers take advantage of the UI.

Overall a very nice phone. I'd say as soon as the antenna issue is truly fixed this is probably the best phone out there for the average joe consumer. If you like taking control of you phone and making it yours then you need to look at other phones.

It's definitely not the norm, just more wishful thinking on his part. I now know 8 other iPhone 4 users, not one has yellow blotch or signal issues. FWIW CT did the same thing in the iPad thread.

Good point. Reception issues and dropped calls aren't a problem, this is something the "haters" (and about every iPhone user I know) fabricated. Baghdad Bob? When are we going to add the Ostrich with it's head in the sand smilie?

Think I've had enough of this thread. I'm losing my mind I could have swore this said 63 earlier.

Facts?!?! This is all made up! There are no reception issues, HATER.
Those links mean nothing. A.) I don't live in NYC. B.) Nobody here said anything about AT&T being better than Verizon.Add: Loki lives on my ignore list, but i see you at least have him here to cheer you on. Hi5. :lmao:

I'm saying, I happy for you that you have good reception. My time with our office iPhones has made me appreciate the extremely small, but nice looking screen. It's a very good phone and if you have it I'm sure you like it. Most people do, but almost EVERY iPhone user I've ever talked to has complained about dropped calls and some have claimed it's worse with the new iPhone. Please don't try to paint the reception issues as minor, they aren't, this is clear.

 I agree, AT&T is the Achilles heel of the iPhone. Mr & Mrs One will be one of the first in line for the Verizon iPhone. However, besides the one day I had 4 dropped calls while driving 4 hours (probably just drove through a low signal zone), I have better signal since switching to the iPhone 4.

Is it as 'Widespread' as the iPad Wifi issue?

Far worse than the WiFi issue that was pretty bad.

Ah, your source for the 'Widespread iPad Wifi issue' was an article linking a thread in the Apple discussion boards. What is your source for how 'Widespread' the iPhone signal issue? At least 1.7 Million are using the iPhone 4 at this point. How many of them are having this problem by your guestimates?

Also.. please answer my other question in the Assistant Coaches Forum if you have a chance.

That's sweet, maybe your next post can actually address mine, rather than responding to some imagined conversation that you think were having.I never said there were no issues, you said it was defnitely the norm, I'd say you have no clue what is the norm.

But continue speaking in absolutes as your credibility with anyone not stuck to your pant leg after a furious session slowly is eroded.

Now go put on your helmet and go check back in with the aid and let her know recess is over.l

Nice insults, kiddo. Come up with some fresh material, your posts get more and more unreadable and ridiculous each day. You are losing it and it's a bit sad to watch.FYI: It's definitely the norm. I do have a clue what the norm is, hth.

Yep, ignore the fact that your rant in response to my post had nothing to do with my post, ignore the fact that i agree with you about apple dropping the ball and AT&T having reception issues, and continue demeaning me by calling me kiddo, while continuing to stand on your high horse acting as if you haven't irritated 90% of the people in this thread with your bile. You have issues with apple. Fantastic. Nobody cares. Go away.

Be a grown man and battle him one on one but to pull the "pretty much everyone can't stand you" shtick is pretty child like don't you think?

If this doesn't go away within days, replace the phone. Supposedly it's bonding agent (glue) that hasn't dried yet.

Would it really matter to people like you? Could rip the source of the link or where the study was done (NYC for example a page back), etc.

So what is the norm if Card is wrong?

Yep, ignore the fact that your rant in response to my post had nothing to do with my post, ignore the fact that i agree with you about apple dropping the ball and AT&T having reception issues, and continue demeaning me by calling me kiddo, while continuing to stand on your high horse acting as if you haven't irritated 90% of the people in this thread with your bile. You have issues with apple. Fantastic. Nobody cares. Go away.
Be a grown man and battle him one on one but to pull the "pretty much everyone can't stand you" shtick is pretty child like don't you think?
Normally I'd agree with you on this point, but I'm being 100% serious. He's worn out his welcome in this tread with just about everyone ere trying to discuss the phone. The only people he hasn't irritated is the apple haters who troll with him in this thread.I've been just as guilty about responding to these petty fights but I'm trying to be better, but when he strolls in and lambasts be for saying something that my post didn't say at all, it annoys the crap out of me. I've explained to him twice that he's not responding to what he thinks he is yet he doesn't get it. And his pathetic little lackey chiming in like some sort of villians lame sidekick is beyond aggravating.

I think everyone (haters and owners alike) can agree that the iphone is a great device, but a pretty bad phone. ATT is a big part of the problem, but so is the actual iphone hardware (since inception). Iphone RF is bad.

In our office in downtown LA, which has pretty terrible ATT coverage, our ATT Blackberry users can at least make calls. None of our iphone (3g,3gs) can. The iphone 4 does in fact get better reception than the 3gs (around here). The antenna problem/signal drop is a killer tho for our users and actually makes it worse than the 3gs. Everyone's rocking a case now.

Apple's announcement today isn't exactly the software fix I was hoping for.

Iphone: great device, terrible phone.

Please don't try to paint the reception issues as minor, they aren't, this is clear.

Is there anything to say how widespread the problem actually was?

Everyone knows it was a real issue including apple who is still pushing fixes for it and has the current support document up.

I have to admit this once section in that document has me baffled as far as wi-fi impact goes.

Adjust screen brightness

Check to see if your screen brightness is set to the lowest level by going to Settings > Brightness & Wallpaper. If brightness is at lowest level, increase it by moving the slider to the right and set auto brightness to off.

Note: Brightness control in the iBooks application can also be used to adjust brightness.

I don't know, I'm not proclaiming to know without a doubt what is or isnt the norm for 87 million people.

Especially since I think 90% of the people are tired of both of them and the slap fighting in these threads.
