On a serious note we should be discussing the screen technology more, this seems like the big "wow" item of this iPhone. 326ppi is insane, I'm really looking forward to seeing one of these up close.

Interesting. EVO about 35% thicker than iPhone.How do weights compare? Looks like Apple is going for uber small and light. Tough from an engineering perspective to pack the same horsepower and functionality into a significantly smaller case. I think a major test here will be iPhone battery life as compared to EVO. When you make something that small with that much horsepower/functionality, gonna be tough to keep battery life up.

This sounds right to me. The screen sounds absolutely ridiculous. That could be what's groundbreaking here. I know folks were oohing and ahhing about the EVO screen -- I'll be super curious to see how this compares.

i didn't test the EVO out as a phone, but the extra size made for an awesome browsing experience, IMO. 4.3 seems to be just about the right size for a pocket browsing device. After playing with it for 10 minutes or so, it will be hard for me to go back to a 3.5" screen device.

EVO screen is larger, but has a worse PPI than the N1, Droid, and Incredible. I'm sure it looks great on video but not as great on text.This sounds right to me. I'm sure you realize coverage/reception by all carriers is hugely dependent on your location. Verizon is pretty good across the board. ATT is actually pretty good in certain areas but it's terrible in a lot of densely populated urban areas (NY, LA, SF, etc.). Sprint is like the reverse image of ATT. It's pretty terrible in non urban centers but it's excellent in urban areas. They're equal to or better than Verizon in a lot of big cities.LTE is great and all but it has zero impact on phones right now. Do you really think ATT is pumping out money to make their 3G network less crappy in cities? They're trying to make their network better not by building more infrastructure, but by making their customers use 3G less. No more unlimited data. ATT service terrible in NY? Build more towers? No, let's offer free wifi in Times Square (which is actually a good idea given what they have, but think about that one).Andat anyone switching to Sprint, no clue why they merged with Nextel only to pick up a bunch of towers that only 10% of their phones can even utilize.
Their network is in worse shape than AT&T.
And trust me, AT&T is putting a lot of work into their new LTE program.
I'm looking forward to LTE because hopefully I'll be able to use the same phone on ATT and Verizon. How awesome would that be? Give it about two years. Yeah, ATT/Verizon say LTE will be rolling out in select cities later this year and in 2011, but 2012 should be when ALL phones will be LTE phones.
The phone you buy right now, whether it's an iphone/evo/whatever should be the last 3G phone you'll buy.
iphone does have basic voice commands to make calls, play music, etc. Their voice search can done through a Google app. It doesn't have nearly the sophistication of Android right now. Dictating emails, texts, voice searching, voice mapping, etc. is pretty awesome. Apple is trying to catch up tho with their acquisition of Siri.

From everything I've seen (tech specs don't specify) the EVO is roughly 180ppi - 220ppi. What stands out to me is that it is listed as only capable displaying 68k colors. So it has to dither to give the impression of a full color gamut. Combine that with the large physical size and low ppi and there should be a huge noticeable difference between the EVO and iPhone 4.This sounds right to me. The screen sounds absolutely ridiculous. Anyone know if the new iphone uses the same usb cable as the current 3gs/touch? I know I'll probably have to buy new cases/docks for the new ipod touch, but it uses the same usb connection?

For me, I'm really glad I resisted the urge to jump on the ipad. This new iphone does everything that I'd use the ipad for, and then some. And all for a fraction of the price? I really enjoy my Droid, but this is the first time I would seriously consider moving over to AT&T for the iPhone4. Not sure if someone can answer this in this thread but if someone on my plan (Verizon) is due for a new phone because they fullfilled their contract obligations, can they assume my spot and I leave the plan? I have over a year left on my phone but if my father can take my phone I would like to leave Verizon.

If you got your iPhone three months ago, you're not going to be eligible to upgrade for another nine months or so. That's the only way to get the $199/299 subsidized price. Probably runs $650 or so unsubsidized, at least that's what the 3Gs was.

Not currently capable of video over 3G... just Wifi. Though they are working on arrangements with carriers, so yes... it will be something to consider in the future. IMHO Bandwidth will scale much like HD storage has. a 2GB $25 plan will become a 4GB $25 plan will become a 10GB $30 plan as time goes on and wireless bandwidth is fully commoditized. Once video calls become somewhat commonplace the system will scale to accommodate and the pricing will follow suit.

You prefer a 5 mega-pixel camera to an 8 mega pixel camera?
You can prefer the iPhone to EVO, but I don't see how you can look at that comparison chart and come away with "iPhone is superior in all aspects except 4G".
