iPhone or iPod Touch and what generation?MultiTasking will only work on the iPhone 3GS and 3rd Generation Touch I believe. It will not work on iPhone 3G or earlier or iPod Touch 2G or earlier.

Seriously though, has this update caused an update in itunes.I ask because the last time I updated itunes my sons IPOD died and it took me a long time to "fix" it. Do I have to update to the new itunes?

Got the same e-mail. Makes sense since it arrived in Alaska 24 hours ago. No way it should take 3 more days to get from there to NYC via FEDEX. One day early.

I keep getting emails saying it's shipped, but no updates from FedEx. I'll patiently wait till Thursday, I guess.

Someone pointed out earlier that the 8gig model is not able to multi-task.

I got a similar email last year and was all excited to get the 3Gs a day early . . . but then they held it an extra day and I got it on release day.Got the same e-mail. Just before completing installing iOS4 a dialog box came up saying that Backup did not complete due to lack of memory on laptop. I clicked OK and it finished installation. Everything seems to be working well on my 3GS now. So I think the answer to your question is No.

Finally got this working somehow. So far everything appears good except I cant get my active sync calendar to populate. Odd as email and contacts seem to work fine - but no calendar. If I cant get this part working its a deal breaker for me as I need that on this device. What is involved in going back to 3 if need be?

You need to update your apps in the App Store. Pandora has an update. So "multitasking" now works with Pandora. Not the case with Slacker yet.

Not sure. I just tested the exact scenario, I have Pandora playing in the background while surfing the web on Safari. It works great. Did you update your apps after installing iOS? Did you remember to re-sync your phone so the updated apps are installed in place of the old version on the phone?

Correct. Apps need to be updated to take advantage of Apple's multitasking API's. The OS supports multitasking, but apps need to be written for it.

When listening to iPod app or Pandora, and then trying to multitask and view Photos, the audio is killed. I guess audio for videos within Photo app take priority.
my phone shipped from Fort Worth, TX today and is scheduled to arrive tomorrow.

It may be that for audio only one app is allowed to be "in control", because the iPod app and Pandora are each able to "override" the other once they actually start playing a song. But it didn't appear that one app had more of a priority than the other - it was just whichever one started playing last was actually heard.

I'm not a big proponent of cases. I like my phones slim and nekkid. The iphone 4 is going to glass on both sides now tho, front and back. I think the bumper is a good idea and won't make it too bulky. It should deter some out of pocket scratches and help prevent damage with drops.$30 for the Apple bumper seems like a rip tho. I'd wait for some knockoffs on ebay.
Any word on whether the iPhone with bumpers will fit into the dock?

I have to go with the Otterbox Defender because I work in construction in alot of dirt and dust. I've ruined too many phones at work, you'd be suprised at how much damage some dust can do. It makes it big and bulky but well worth the protection while at work.

I'm not sure and I'm really curious about this as well. I'd like to know if the new iphone/touch is going to work with any of the old 3G/3GS docks period, since it's a new form factor.If you're really set on a case, I'm really fond of Seidio cases http://www.seidioonline.com/. They do not have a 4 case yet but it's a matter of time. I've seen their cases for the Droid and EVO and they're solid.
If you're looking for a heavy duty type case to lock out dust and stuff, Otterbox Defender. http://www.otterbox.com/iphone-cases/iphone-3g-3gs-cases/ Our on-site foremans use these and they love them. Will turn your phone into a brick tho.
There are a bunch of other cases that work well, but these are the only ones I've used or seen in person.

I bounced around to a bunch of sites and eventually figured it out. Find redsn0w 0.9.5b5-2 and download it. Then you have to find the appropriate firmware for your device and put a copy of it on your desktop. For me it was iPod2,1_4.0_8A293_Restore.ipsw Redsn0w will need to access that file. Then you run redsn0w and just follow the instructions. The only tricky part is a series of buttons you have to press and release for an amount of time that the program will instruct you. I had to go back and repeat that step.As for performance, it appears to be running about the same as before. I haven't noticed it being slower.

Doh. I have a 3Gs but I had not updated the Pandora app to the one that was released a few days ago. Works fine now.
