^^ :excited: The battery is killer. Huge upgrade, I would routinely see single digits on my %, with the 4 I barely go under 30%, and have actually gone without recharging overnight a few times.
Eta: recharging is insanely fast too. My car charger is double the speed of my 3GS.

what car charger?
It's made by Incase. It's not a dock or anything, just a straight plug in charger. Bought it at the apple store.this one

If you have questions about iphone battery just PM me. I sort of fear about saying too much on here though most info is common knowledge.

What's the best way to condition the battery?

Is it still the standard to drain all the way and then charge?
:goodposting: I leave it plugged in almost all day at work and listen to music/surf the web...is that bad?

Apparently you can recharge it whenever and have no adverse effect, but once a month you should do a complete discharge/100% charge.
I would only say to do this for 3GS. Not 4G. I would avoid letting 4G going to 0%. There is a difference between the two. 3G and 3GS are the same. Apple ordered a major change between 3GS and 4G. Do a little research and you can find what this is.

I rooted my iPod Touch to get all the functionality of ios4 (folders, multitasking). I see that ios 4.02 is now available. If I allow the upgrade to happen will I lose folders and multitasking?

Why was getting multitasking such a big deal? It seems pretty worthless to me.On the plus side, the speed and battery life of the thing are ridiculously awesome IMO.
Really. I must be doing something wrong. My old iphone would last for 2 full days and I would charge it but was no where near 20%. This one runs down to about 60% by the end of the day and I need to charge it every night or else it might not last the next dayThe speed is insane thoughI did have some problems with the data thoughI have used the iphone since 2007 and went thru my monthly usage. I averaged about 135 mb with a high of 160 in 3 years. So I decided to get the 200 mb plan. Anyway, 15 days into my cycle, I was already at 140. I called to complain and got my unlimited back. Now I dont have to worry about overages

I stream music all day 5 days a week and my data avg. is about 3.5 gb a month. If I wasn't on the unlimited plan, I would not be very happy.

Make sure you don't have every single app running in the background. Mine was suddenly sucking wind at the end of each day and it was because I had never fully closed an app after using it (i.e. go to multi task bar, hold down app and click the '-' on everything you don't want running). It's annoying, but minor.

How many hours a day would you say?

Why don't you just share your knowledge?
The battery chemistries are different between 3GS and 4G. This is public knowledge and printed on the battery for ease in recycling. The 4G uses the more common LI-Ion while 3GS and 3G use LI-Poly. There was one other subtle change in battery between 3G and 3GS, but it is very unlikely that anyone would care. I work with batteries for a living and I would never advise anyone regardless of what it is to drain any rechargable battery to 0 intentionally for many reasons. The thinking on doing such a thing was fine for 1990s based electronics and chemistries, but the battery pack itself is much more than a holding tank now. There's actually more computing power just in the battery itself than many early cell phones.

That being said the chemistry theory would make one think that you could do this with the 3rd generation without much, if any, risk. And I wouldn't freak out if you accidentally cause a full drain on a 4.

Thanks. So what do you suggest is the best way to preserve the battery?

Easiest thing for someone to do is to not let the pack get hot. Running a battery at high temps drastically reduces charge, and life. Keeping a phone in a pocket and in use via handsfree (bluetooth, earphones) is one way to do this. The dorks that have the belt clips got lucky in that way.

What is this multitask bar?
Double-click the Home button. This brings up the multitask bar along the bottom that shows every app that is running in the background. Click an icon to quickly jump to a new app, or hold down on an icon to and once they start shaking click the "-" to close them.

sorry if this has been asked before:

when I go to reply to a long post here in the FFA when I click on reply and click on the text box, there is no scroll bar to move up and down within the text box. Is there something I am doing wrong? It makes it challenging for me to reply to longer posts b/c I can't navigate through the text to get to the top or the bottom.

first it was the antenna that drove me nuts, now it's the proximity sensor

any of you iphone 4 people having issues with this? anytime i am on the phone i either accidentally mute the call or put it on speaker with my cheek.

I experience this too. Not sure there is a solution.

Im in, picked it up yesterday. much faster. The camera is great, and you can actually take a few pictures nearly simultaneously, instead of taking one, waiting 5 seconds for it to record, then taking another one.

love the HD camera too, great addition now that we have a 4 month old.

Yea that sucks. What I do is "select" a word, then drag the blue ball down to the bottom of the post so I can start my reply. It is a pain in the ### though.

You can scroll inside the text box by dragging with two fingers instead of one. You have to drag within the boundary of the box, though.

Bueller? Bueller?
Do not upgrade to 4.02. You will absolutely lose your jailbreak.Wait for 4.1 to be released and then the 4.1 jailbreak before you leave 4.0.1.
Thanks.

 Really annoying, especially when you've been on hold for 45 min, finally get a human on the phone and your stupid face hits the stupid end button. :banned:

:goodposting: :P does apple have any plans of correcting the issue. It is annoying.
I had heard awhile ago that they were aware of it and working on a fix.Not sure what happened to it, maybe (hopefully) they are still working on it.

face bumper

I tried to go to the multi task bar and close everything out. I have done nothing today except check email and surf FBGs

Took the phone off charge at 7. It is now 1:14 and I am at 53%.

Is this what everyone else gets. I am concerned since everyone was raving about the battery life

Love the phone, but have to say I really am surprised at just how bad the reception on the phone is (not that I should be). I haven't dropped any calls yet, but almost every call I've made/received has been 'choppy' (Philly area).

Oh well, hopefully it will get better with the bumper case???

Thanks Steve - you had to call your app Ping - you are an effen dooosh - It's hard enough to teach people to use ping for testing(like my mom and sister) now you steal the name and people will be confused.

Down to 40% with 3G off
