The Apple iPhone Thread (4 Viewers)

Ok

Well I have the regular iphone 6

I love it.

I now have some questions as a former Samsung guy for the past years.

I synced my outlook and gmail and my contacts turned into Gobbeldy #### (wtf is this censored, pronounced Guck)

Seriously....it's like every person I've sent an email through outlook over the past 8 years, irrespective of whether or not they are actual OFFICIAL Outlook contacts.

This is bull####. I don't feel like going through and trying to sort each and everyone.

I have like 50 Outlook Contacts, and my phone now is showing 300+ of varying information (some just an email address, some just pure gibberish)

Anything from email addresses to names with no email addresses. Someone tell me how to auto-organize this crap or I will break this phone, so help me god.
Would love if one of you can apple guys can help me with why this has happened.

This is annoying enough to just bring the phone back. It's really bad.
How did you sync Outlook? I have never ever synched anything other than iTunes especially with Outlook since the mechanism is a POS. Any gmail or Exchange contacts have always been just fine for me.

I guess I misspoke.

I synced Exchange (not Outlook, that's new to me)

I went to the Exchange option, typed in my server info, log in and password and got a bunch of contacts that are no longer viable.

Small gripe with ios8. Safari in landscape mode moved the bookmarks to the top and the left. ####### me up. They also changed the landscape keyboard layout and I'm ####### that #### up too.

Not an Apple hater.. I use apple and android - these new iphone6 commercials are kind of sad. Touting "new" features that have been on the major android phones for a year or more now?

It doesn't feel like Apple has the lead any more.

This could be due to you saving you contacts to your samsung or gmail account instead of Outlook.

Iphone 5s iOS8 with the SwiftKey keyboard....love it but when you open a new text message you have to scroll down to the latest message every time. Very annoying.
Noticed this also. It randomly reverts back to the English keyboard after switching apps. It hasn't annoyed me enough yet to ditch it. It's a fun app.
It's locking up text messaging too much. It was fun, but adios.
So is swype.

Hoping they patch it soon.

Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Your Gmail Account > Unselect Contacts

2hr30mins after unplugging: 50% battery life. Though that was very active use with iCloud restoring photos in the background....

Yep... Gonna need a battery case for this one too
Whoa. That's not good for a brand new phone no matter what you're doing.

Would be interested to hear experience of others as well.
Yes. Battery life on the 6 sucks just as bad as it did on the 5.
Actually now that I'm not syncing its MUCH better than my 5 was...I'm routinely getting 6-8 hours of HEAVY (hardly putting it down) use (whereas I got 4ish on my 5.

Rumor has it the iPhone 7 is going to have widgets!

one issue

my wife backed her old phone up and then restored to the 6+

as did i

so now we are having an issue with find my friend, both are connected to me. We tried setting up family sharing, but no matter what we try to do it seems find your friends is hooked to me on her phone, any ideas?

my battery is so much better it's not even funny. 1 hour of playing spotify and surfing the internet while the wife got her nails done and I only dropped from 99 - 92%. No wifi during that time so it was all LTE and 4g.

Went through my wallet. I have four cards that I think I should carry all the time especially if I do not carry much cash.

1. I.D.

2. credit card

3a. debit card

3b. health insurance card

Car insurance card can be taken out of the wallet and kept in the car. Also, can scan/picture it into my phone.

Blood donor card can be done similar to car insurance however that could be kept in the car as well.

Gas "gift" card and gas "bonus" card can be kept in the car or even at home unless I need to fill up.

Does this seem reasonable?

My dad carries about 20 cards so there is a big difference there.
Try looking at your health insurance company, and you might be able to have your card via an app.

I backed up my 5s and then initiated my 6 with the most recent backup but many of the apps on my 5s didn't transfer. I know I can go into the app store and download them again but I am wondering why they didn't transfer in the first place. Any ideas? I agreed to transfer the purchases when I initially plugged it in.

No idea, mine transferred fine. But I hadn't upgraded my 5 to IOS 8 when I did the back-up. Maybe that was the difference?

None of my apps transferred during the restore either, had to resync all of them in iTunes seperately.

So far so good.

Love the design of the phone.

Really need to figure out why all of my important Exchange contacts are so jumbled and have people that I definitely do NOT have as permanent Outlook contacts. It's like it synced 8 years worth of people, numbers, email addresses in there. Really annoying.

I actually do miss the widgets a bit though. It was nice having my daily calendar on it's own screen altogether. I also liked on the Android that you could swipe drop down to adjust the brightness and other things. On the iPhone looks like I have to open up settings every time.

Minor annoyances.

The 6 is the perfect sized phone. Big fan.

You can access brightness and other things in the Controls by swiping up from the bottom

Did you try the solutions upthread regarding the contacts?

Screen brightness is easily accessible by doing a swipe up from the bottom.

Whoa

Thanks GB BB

Will try the tips in a few here. They weren't working for me last night.

This is annoying enough to just bring the phone back. It's really bad.

Yeah

This isn't really gonna work unfortunately.

Some of my contacts are saved to Gmail (personal)

and some are saved to my Outlook/Exchange (business)

I want them both. The Gmail contacts ported in just fine.

It's the Exchange contacts that are just straight up screwy looking.

When I had Android, it would just automatically sync with whatever contacts I had saved to my desktop Outlook. Those are the only contacts I want on my iPhone.

It appears, again, that I have hundreds more than I actually do - with varying levels of info. Some with just email addresses, some with just first names,

It's a mess. I'm a little bit OCD about organization on my computers too, so I'm probably making it out to be a bigger deal than it really is. But it's really annoying

I had a similar issue with tons of added contacts that I didn't really recognize or want when I recently had to restore my iphone. It was very annoying. I don't remember what I did to fix it though.

One coworker has a 6 here and another has a 6+. Both are really nice but I/m not sure either one gave me the "oh I have to have this!" feeling of earlier devices. Maybe I'm just getting old.

In my opinion, it's an upgrade. Nothing more, nothing less.

Yup. My response to everyone who asks me about my new phone is "It's exactly the same as the 5, a little bigger and a little faster with a slightly better battery."

I'm upgrading from a 4s... I think that makes it more than an upgrade.
the screen on the 6 is so much better than the 4s

not just bigger, better

Same boat here, figure I'll go for the 6+ for the most impact.

weh ni first powered it up i was amazed at how awesome it looked

also seems lighter than the 4s despite being bigger

so far there has been 1 pocket my giant phablet would not fit in, so i switched from the side "tech"pocket on those pants to the back pocket.

using it has been a dream, very glad i went big. i'd be jealous of my wife's 6+ had i gone 6 as I had planned

So, take this FWIW....I was at my ATM and they had an advertisement for "Apple Pay" and that it was coming soon. I thought it pretty interesting given our company's position on security, so I call a BA buddy of mine and find out he's working on the project. It's still a few months out but our organization was not going to work with Apple on it until they came up with some significant security solutions. They were at a standstill for a few months because Apple was not doing the needful to make things safe. It put our organization at too much risk so it was nixed until Apple came back with this model that they have now of passing some Apple generated number back and forth. It puts all the security on Apple to protect the accounts registered with them. I still don't have all the details, but I plan on having lunch with my buddy next week. Will report back when I get the goods.
BOA?
No...BoA puts crap out just so they can be the "first"...then spend millions on fraud research.

USB REVC specs did come out today. They went with everything Apple wanted. I assume this will be the last phone with the lightning cable. So don't get too heavily invested in accessories if you are inclined to do so at this point.

The camera on this thing is dope.

Snapped a ton of pics at a family reunion-esque weekend in a wide range of conditions (dim candle lit restaurant, bright sunlight, overcast/rainy day outside, incandescent lit interior shots, etc. Amazing stuff and auto HDR functionality on this phone is impressive.

Lots of little details im loving...

I like the phone as well. The size of the 6 seems to be a nice sweet spot. I really need a case though as I am leery of dropping it and breaking it in some way. The case I ordered needs to get here.

Haven't tried the camera yet. I have the 128GB version and am hoping to use the slow motion video capture and things like that. I think I could have fun with that out golfing and stuff.
