The Apple iPhone Thread (1 Viewer)

The 7 does not interest me at all. If the dimensions are the same... meh. Apple needs to keep the screen size or make it a little larger on the normal phone but they need to reduce the bezel as much as possible. Make the phone the screen with some bezel but there is too much currently.

Mario Run looks like a Mario game. I thought it'd be like Pokemon Go.

The Apple Watch Series 2 looks intriguing though.

I'm still waiting for MSFT's next version of its phone and its band. I'm hoping the phone they come out with will work with my needs much more than the iPhone currently. I'm interested in making a switch again but I need to be shown that the MSFT phone will be awesome.

I have had a micro SD card fail. There, now you know one person. :)

You completely gloss over the SD card issues that android has had with the format (Google helps here), and the fact that data transfer is much slower than on board memory.

It's not the same.
I have no idea what you mean by "data transfer is much slower" and I've been using micro SD cards on a 3.5 year old phone.

Going to get the watch since my latest fitbit is on it's way out.  Anyone know if the Series One glass is different then the Series Two?
Not sure, didn't say the glass was upgraded but the series 2 is a significant upgrade IMO. Built in GPS and waterproof make a much more reliable fitness wearable.

Pretty much everything in here sounds exactly like what was in the iPad thread after that was released...

And right before you all had one in your houses.

Everybody here pretty much has an iPhone already.  I have a 6+ and there is no reason for me to upgrade this year based on this event.

Upgraded from the iPhone 5 to iPhone 5SE with the 6 processor and a bunch of other 6 stuff. I hate carrying around phones that feel like a tablet in your pocket.

See!  This is so fun!!!

I bought Ipad minis for my kids. They still have them. That is the last Apple purchase I made.

They can kiss my big hairy behind

My family has three iPhone sixes and one iPhone 5c.

My 12 year old daughter, ironically enough, dropped her 5C today and broke the screen.  I will be upgrading her to an iPhone 6.

Two of the other Iphones have cracked screens. I will be paying to fix those vs upgrading. My IPhone 6 is still in pristine condition (thank you otter box)  so I feel absolutely no urge to go to the seven and I don't know if we ever will.

My kids go through headphones like crazy so there is no way I'm gonna buy them $150 headphones. Apple is going to regret this move  unless they offer some real cheap alternatives:

I would upgrade first day every 2 years and I'm up but I'm in no rush this go round. I will eventually but I'm going to live with my slowly deteriorating 6 until I have to replace it. I'm in the minority but not being able to plug in earphones and charge at the same time is a big disadvantage for me. Only option(for me) is to use a battery case and I don't feel like bothering with that right now.

A 12 year old with an iPhone lol. Sign of the times, I guess.

Not speaking down your parenting (I'm sure all her friends have smart phones too), but I remember when I was 12 (which wasn't that long ago). Nobody except 1 or 2 of my classmates had a phone, and it was those ugly flip phones.

You mean none of your classmates had iPhones in the 90s?

My son is about to turn 12 and is in 7th grade.

It will be nice for him to have it to contact us when he is at school events or whatever.  Its not absolutely necessary, but about the right time since we let him do more things out with friends and whatever.

Are you going to go for the straight 7 or the 7 Plus for him?

If we stay with sprint...either the SE or he gets my wife's old 5c.  He wanted my Galaxy S5 but I dropped the damn thing last week and there is a nice cracking at the bottom corner and one starting up the front of the screen.

See it is a necessity for my family. My kids are busy--between all their school commitments and their extracurricular activities, we need a way to always be in touch as a family. Often we find ourselves with one parent going with one kid to one event and the other going to another event with the other kid.

Plus nothing brightens my day when I get a text from one of my kids in the middle of the day just telling me about something that happened to them. My wife and I have been married forever, but both my daughters 17-12 text me throughout the day with fun stories/gripes about things.

I can also tell you that teachers in our district (Junior High and High School) use a Remind App that sends notifications to the kid's phones with homework updates and reminders about upcoming assignments. I actually think kids who do not have smart-phones are at a disadvantage at least here.

Pretty underwhelmed by the 7. Sticking it out with the 6 until it craps out. If it wasn't for totally being all-in on the Apple ecosystem, I'd switch back to Android.

On top of no major improvements there are rumors saying with the tenth anniversary of the iPhone in 2017 they're expecting a completely redesigned iPhone next year. Maybe another reason to hold off.

Yup, have been seeing the same things. Might as well hold out and see if next year's is any better. I have no issues with my 6, so I can't justify shelling out $650 for a new phone.

I am going to upgrade to the 7.  I've had my 6 for two years (cracked the screen within a week and never fixed it).  It's also a little bent and the antenna is crap.  So I am ready.  If next year's is light years ahead of the 7, then I will upgrade to that one.  As someone else said, I am too engrained in the Apple ecosystem to change to something Android based.

Not likely. There are no greater sheep than Apple sheep. They make some good products but they also sell people on a lot of garbage that people lap up because it has an apple on it.

I used to be totally against Apple. Hated their products and only used Android. My wife has always had an iPhone and wanted to get a MacBook. Once we got that, I started to get hooked on how everything with Apple worked together. Now, I have the MacBook, iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. It is really convenient how well everything works together. That really is my main reason for staying with Apple at this point.

I'm not against them, I'm typing this on an iPhone and have an Apple TV. Their phone software is very good.

I just don't see how people try to spin DRMing headphones, not having an SD option etc..  as somehow forward thinking. It's not. It's Apple closing/keeping their system closed so they can make as much money as possible.

Oh I agree with that. I think the AirPods are ridiculous. No chance I would spend $160 on those things. I also don't see the downside in letting people be able to use an SD card for more storage. But, that would dissuade people from using iCloud.

It seems like Apple is hell bent on making the iPhone as thin as possible. And like I said yesterday, that seems pointless because 90% of people probably have their phone in some sort of case that adds bulk to it. I am glad they finally added waterproofing to it though.

I'm reading that the 7 doesn't even have the new camera, just the 7+.  What would be the motivation to upgrade from a 6 or 6s?

Does anyone know which option will get me a phone more quickly?

1) Ordering through Apple tonight starting at midnight PST; or

2) Calling and ordering through ATT at 6am EST.  If it matters, I am a Premier member of ATT because of the company I work for.

If there's no difference, I'm inclined to go with ATT simply because I don't want to wake up at midnight PST.

Sounds like there is nearly no demand for the phone at launch so doubt it makes a difference.
