The Avengers (1 Viewer)

Yeah more like a 7.5 to 8. Too much effort to be funny, too much effort to make the characters cavalier, story was weak and movie was too long.

Having the Vision pick up the hammer was dumb too

Going tomorrow. Seen all of the Avengers movies, but not real knowledgable outside of that. First Avengers was probably my favorite, really liked the little bits of humor, like Cpt. America handing Fury the $10 bill on the carrier's bridge; Stark calling Thor 'Point Break' when they meet after the first fight, and the fight between Hulk and Loki at Stark's place ending with Hulk calling Loki 'puny God' in response to Loki referring to himself as a god in an effort to stop Hulk.

I didn't like hearing that Phil is not returning to the movies according to the director, who refers to him as 'dead.' Don't know how he can operate in AoS and not be in the movies.

I'm fine with it because in the comics other heroes have been able to. Captain America and Storm being the most well known ones.

It lacks the strong laughs from Loki getting stomped by Hulk and Hulk punching Thor. But I like this one over the first.

The $10 bill is one of my favorites, subtle, didn't go go a huge laugh; only those who paid good attention to the movie caught it the first time.

I'm fine with it because in the comics other heroes have proven worthy to lift the hammer. Captain America and Storm being the most well known ones.
Yeah - but they were human - not synthetic

Beta Ray Bill was an alien. Air-Walker (as an android) and Awesome Android and a mining robot of a Thor villain were able to do the feat as well. So in the comics sentient machines have been able to do so.

Still better than synthetic AI

Saw this on Friday and enjoyed it. I loved the way they brought attention to Hawkeye as a non-powered super hero, and yet a main piece of the greater team. Seeing the family side of Hawkeye was very interesting and set up the final battle really well. Some good laughs throughout and great action scenes. It did go a little long, but overall it wasn't too noticeable.

I liked the movie, although I missed a crucial point towards the end. We were in a theatre with some of the chairs that move and shake with the movie, so we got some of the residual shaking in our seats.

My wimpy 12 y.o. boy was freaking out during parts of the movie. He prefers to watch movies like this at home so he can walk away if he is scared. So about halfway through, he got up and rushed out. I figure he is just going to go to the bathroom, calm down and come back. Fifteen minutes later, he is still not back, so I have to leave and go find him. I don't see him in the bathroom, don't see him in the theatre hallway, so after talking to the girl who was doing tickets/glasses that I needed to find a kid (she hadn't seen him) and storm down the ramp to the lobby. He's not there, I go down the stairs and look out in the parking area, still nothing. I'm freaking out, thinking my wife is going to kill me because the kid is lost and I waited too long to go look for him, so I go back up to the hallway by the theatres, and go back to the bathroom and he's there. I sort of scream at him, and storm back to the movie, kid in my wake.

Missed from about when they were taking the 'coffin' to Tony until just after The Vision 'arrived.'
My only thought of benefit is I get to go see the movie again, by myself. Although the 11 y.o. kid watched the whole thing, no problem.

does your son get nightmares from intense type scenes?

I wonder if the theater environment (big, loud) makes those issues more acute with him? I give him credit for going to a movie he must have known was going to be intense.

Interesting thought, I will ask him about that.

He doesn't say anything about nightmares, or if he even gets them. He doesn't wake up screaming in the night or anything.

He is at an age where he doesn't even like watching kissing on a TV show. (He covers his eyes) I suppose there is some parental benefit to that! ;) He doesn't like Horror movie commercials either.

If he is scared at home he just covers his eyes or leaves the room.

IMO, the movie was way too similar to last year - fighting tons of aliens and now tons of robots.

They really should have done a Masters of Evil story line here. I hope they go somewhat in that direction with Thanos - where he has an counter-avenger team.

Saw it last night and we loved it. The 3-D in it was pretty amazing.

On a side note, they showed the Star Wars trailer and it was also in 3-D. Man, that looked AWESOME! The scene where the Falcon goes through the tube while being chased had me ducking to avoid the beams. Can not wait for this to come out!

Really enjoyed the movie. The Avengers was easily my favorite comic book as a kid - still have a bunch of them in their plastic little sleeves stored somewhere.

Was surprised The Vision made an appearance - didn't expect that.

Simon Williams next?

Saw this yesterday. Other than some obvious canon disregards I thought it was pretty good. Vision has always been one of my favorites, and entirely underrated IMO, so I liked seeing him make the scene. I was hoping we'd get Black Panther as well but no such luck. Nice job introducing the B team at the end. But when it is going down you know the big boys will be back.

Black Panther will make his debut in Civil War.

I thought it was decent but no Winter Soldier.

I used to collect West Coast Avengers comics and have the Vision & Scarlet Witch series they produced as well. So I liked seeing their characters show up.

Do people like Winter Soldier so much because the first Cap movie kind of sucked? I liked it but didn't think it was the insta-classic so many seem to think it was.

I liked it because it tied nicely into AOS and I thought it was one of the stronger stories in any of the Marvel movies so far. I also enjoyed Cap 1 but not as much as Cap 2.

It did have a strong story.

yeah, Whedon said back in July that there would be no extended/directors cut. Weadon does not believe in them. This was his comment at ComicCon

"It has always been my ambition never to do a director’s cut of anything", said Whedon, "and always to make the movie with the studio that we both want to make."

===================

Which recent (last decade) Marvel based movies have had extended directors cut editions? I can only think of The Rogue Cut (X-Men Days of Future Past) off the top of my head.

^^ Oh, I know. There was some buzz after the movie came out that there might be. I was hoping they'd make an exception.

Was also in the camp of liked it a lot, but not loved it. Would put it in the solid second tier but not in the 1st tier of Avengers, Cap2 & GotG for me. Hoping I like it even better on repeated viewings.

They chopped too much of Thor's story IMO, made very little sense on the screen.

I believe this was the piece most were hoping would make it into an extended edition.

At best now, maybe we can see the deleted scenes to see what they had in mind.
