The Bill Simmons Podcast (2 Viewers)

Simmons' first HBO project is apparently a 30 for 30 style documentary on Andre the Giant.

It will be interesting if they manage to get beyond the stock apocryphal stuff that I've seen everywhere. "He got rides to school with Samuel Beckett!" "He drank six litres of red win to get a buzz!"

He annoys me too much for me to listen to the podcast anymore, but I'll forgive him if this is as good as it should be:

Andre the Giant Official Trailer

I enjoyed the SalCast this week with Bill, but man how much must have @mr. furley hated the knob slob of Tony Romo for the last 20 minutes?  Especially after Romo "Uhh...ughhh....eeemmmmmm....hmmmm...errrreeeeddddd...." his way through every replay of the AFC Championship?  (I like Romo but he was painfully bad in that game.)
"And now here's Tony Romo, calling in on a cell phone from a tunnel somewhere on the other side of the world..."

Weird emotional intro for today's podcast.

Of course it was just classic for him to not even bother to figure out how to pronounce the guy's name before going on the air.

We've covered this before, but his ad reads are simply horrible. It's like he is forcing himself to inject emotion into the reads, but he's an awful actor, so he just ends up emphasizing random words and changing inflection at weird times for no reason.

Yeah, it's the worst of all podcasters.

Intro about dead guy was sad awkward and self-congratulatory.

I had forgotten how funny it was that Sal said he was Jon Kasay at that’s Carolina SB. And I have to say it does make me laugh along with Simmons when he genuinely laughs at Sal. Also did it when discussing how they bet on Lebron to Bulls.

And the stories of their sons hurting them and Bill chasing his thru the house made me laugh as well.

Does he realize that when he's speaking into a microphone, it's just recorded and isn't being broadcasted live to the world? Maybe hit the stop button, fire off an email to dead guy's wife and figure out how to say the guy's name, and re-record that 3 seconds of audio and allow nephew Kyle to edit it together?

Oh also at least he had the good grace to read a few emails ripping them for felating Romo the week before. Those emails were funny and spot on as well.

This LeBron/GSW “rumor” is such an obvious plant by LeBron’s camp to (a) pressure the Cavs to trade that Nets pick/players for help, (b) unsettle GSW’s chemistry, and (c) pressure the Lakers to create cap space for him/others. I can’t believe anyone took it seriously. Come on.
Am I crazy or did he not say the same thing about the Durant to GS rumors two years ago, right down to the "this is planted to mess with their chemistry!"?

I don't know. I didn't find it that way at all. That's a crazy/sad story that certainly should be told.
Maybe.  If at any point he'd said, "This is very humbling, and an honor.  It puts things in perspective" I would have felt like he has any sense of the world outside of himself.  The way he told it just reinforced that he's the center of the universe.  Maybe that's just me though, cause I'm the center of the universe.  :)

Didn't help that he confirmed that he is a top 10 Simmons in the same episode.

Super Bowl prop podcast he did with Sal is always fun.  Also funny (and kinda disturbing) to hear how his son attacks the family violently both in public and private.  :lmao:

Is that wrong?  Because my moron 7-year old boy will come at me with no warning. (but it's all in fun........I think)

Did you listen to the podcast?  His kid punched his sister as hard as he could in the school, then punched Bill as hard as he could.  Not wrong, just weird.  My kid kinda does too, but this sounded more extreme.

His son also got in trouble at school for selling candy!

I really just wanted to call my son a moron.

Looking forward to hearing him complain about the NFL and the refs jobbing the Pats yet again and robbing Saints Tom and Bill of another ring.

Ok, actually I can't wait to hear Sal giving him a hard time.

he will say how he was afraid this would happen, that's why he bet PHI +4.5, etc. i think if he complains about the Pats being jobbed it will be sarcasm

I mean Simmons is a dope so who knows what he'll say. But here in New England no one is complaining about the refs. All we want to know is why the hell Butler didn't play.

Butler not playing at all is one of the all-time wtf super bowl moments.

was Rowe his replacement? seemed like the Eagles were going after him.

was Butler playing that poorly this season?

Rowe is a nickel cornerback. People here are saying Butler had a down year. That may be so but he still played 98% of the snaps this year. He's also the best tackling cornerback they have and the tackling was atrocious in that game. The whole thing is just bizarre. If Belichick would come out and say they sat him for disciplinary reasons I'd probably still be pissed but he's earned the right to make that decision as a coach. Their explanation that he "didn't fit into any of their packages" isn't even a good a lie.

A family friend who I trust, is well connected in law enforcement and was in Minny this week with local cops told me Butler missed curfew, got caught with weed when he came back late to hotel, and subsequently had a meltdown on coaches.

Who knows if any truth to it?

Listened to most of the last one that opened with the discussion on the new US Soccer president election with Rob Stone. Now, I don't know very much about the topic but I found it funny that Simmons' main complaint with the newly elected guy is that he was the #2 of the previous guy who he seemed to hate and claim was a massive failure.

Two things: 1) What the hell was Adam Silver to David Stern? 2) The old guy he hated actually supported the woman who Simmons claimed was the better candidate.

I listened to half of the pod with Rusillio. Simmons somehow crafted a game comparing Dwayne Wade to Ben Coates in like a 14-second span. It was breathtaking.

I loved that Simmons was getting all pissy about it, and Stone dropped in that he had to drag Simmons to a soccer game years ago. :lmao:
