As a Los Angeles guy, I'm 10 minutes away from 3 In-N-Outs and don't go to any of them. The brand is completely over hyped and blind brand loyalty is ridiculous. They serve a good Double-double burger but it's far from great. The sheep need to wake up but I'm betting they won't.
But the difference Short Round is that In N Out uses real meat and potatoes. When you factor in you get it all for about and sometimes less than McD/BK/Wen/5G, it just doesn't make sense what you posted. I still would rather have a mom n pop burger but given the choices In n Out is way better and if there's a problem they will fix it right away. I like to bash the Christians at times but this is a Christian based owner much like Chik Fil A and for whatever reason they have a standard that I wish others would follow.
Five Guys also uses real meat and potatoes.
2x the $ of In n Out

White Castle aka SLIDERS = Diarrhea

Fuddruckers for a great burger. Great fries as well.

Red Robin sucks

Sonic is ok if you need food at 2am from drinking.

WhataBurger is best! Good burger / fries / Malts

I have a feeling that Cook Out will be spreading to many more locations outside of just the SE. It'll never be the best of anything, but it's a solid burger and fries that is absolutely dirt cheap.

Most everything on the menu is fairly cheap and rinky dink, but the burgers/fries are pretty good considering the price.

I mean dirt cheap.

I think the Cookout Tray is less than $5 and comes with a burger (or other sandwich), a drink, and 2 sides. The ridiculous part is that they count all kinds of crazy #### as sides. Corn dogs, wraps, and quesadillas.

I'm not a milkshake guy, but I know several milkshake lovers that seem to really enjoy them.

Definitely more expensive. Way better, though.

I would love it if they'd take over the Sonic market.

I never got the hate for In'n'out fries. They are what they are. No frills. Just potato sliced, fried and lightly salted. Most of the other ones are processed and coated before they get to the restaurant. The few times I've had 5Guys fries they were way undercooked. Starchy, greasy, non-crispy. The burger at 5Guys is OK but a lot has to do with that super soft egg bun. In'n'Out wins every time because it's constantly great and half the price. No stench, no crazy people yelling at you when you walk in, no peanuts. You never have to get out of your car. The only downside to in'n'out is it's always mobbed.
fries at In N Out are garbage. wouldn't feed them to my dog.
Ask for ketchup next time. They give you the good stuff. "Fancy" ketchup.

Checkers has pretty great fries. Get them crispy.

All the burger options suck.
I like the fries but that's it. About 2-3 x a year I gotta do a drive thru and grab some. The rest of that menu is heinous and the burgers taste nothing like I remember as a kid, chili also.

Do the same thing. Once or twice a year when I make burgers at home I'll stop there on the way and get some fries. Haven't had any other food there in eons.I do the same thing for chick Fil a. Good damn milkshakes. Don't care for the rest.

You're right - never have to get out of my car. For 2,000+ miles.

It's an honest fry by an honest company. What you see is what you get. No tricks. Here's a potato, there's the oil, here you go. Some places don't even use potato. Some places don't even fry them. They may not even be prepared in the french style. Those aren't real fries. That's a shell game type fry. Something Penn & Teller would serve. Maybe you'd like those better. Not me. No sleight of hand fries for this guy.

Best national chain is mcdonalds for fries, and in n out for the double double.

The best burger I've ever had is the Herb Cain burger at Bills in San Francisco.

Best fries I've ever had was I Brussels Belgium at a frites shack called Madison Antoine. Not only the best fries but one of the best food experiences of my life and I've eaten at places like nobu and french laundry. Fries perfectly cut and cooked from the source and drenched in mayonnaise. I salivate thinking about it still.

Is it? Only In-N-Out uses real meat and potatoes? You're the only person I've heard make that statement.

I will admit this, I would go to in-n-out more often if I could get my order at my table within 10 minutes at normal meal hours. It's not their fault they're popular, but that food isn't good enough to justify the wait. As far as comparably priced chains go. I'd go to the Habit Grill and Fatburger.

I've not tried an In-N-Out burger, but Whataburger is clearly better than the other choices.
Yeah but the OP never heard of them and his google search doesn't find impressive pics of Whataburger burgers.

So Whataburger sucks.

I think Five Guys is a little better, but Whataburger is so :moneybag:

The only thing that looks decent is the Texas toast BBQ chic strip sandwich

You've never been there, how would you know what is good?

Can you tell what chili tastes good by the picture? :lmao:

I didn't say it doesn't taste good, but the images aren't impressive.

For taste and price, I went with Wendy's burgers barely over Five Guys, but Five Guys fries win for me hands down with McDonalds a distant second.

So what? You judging the quality of food by a google image is strange. How many good looking pizzas have you ever seen?

On a TV commercial do they show a big glob of #### or do they make it pretty? Honestly, I think if you laid 3 pies in front of me, just by a visual, I'd be able to pick the best tasting pizza.

For fast food, I'm a big fan of Wendy's burgers... Dave's single w/ cheese hits the spot
When their done right, the new Wendy's fries aren't bad either (but neither were the old fries). But like McDonalds fries, if they are old or not salted properly, the fries can taste pretty terrible.

Whatever you say chief... You ever walk into a pizza place, they've got 12 different pies on the counter, you look at them and say "this looks good, I'll take one of these."

Guess not, who needs a visual.

Signed,

Moron

Good food-based shtick here, I'm not sure I even have a response. YOU WIN!

I added whataburger just for you... Couldn't find anything that looks like their WWF pro wrestling logo though.

McDonald's coats the fries in sugar from what I remember, the meat is pretty weak.

Do this sometime anyone, try eating fast food especially the McD/BK/Wendy's after the food has cooled. The less hot it is the grosser it tastes. I can cook a burger and even after it might be cool, like burger #2 about 15 minutes after you had burger #1 at home…those burgers still taste good. Fast food just becomes hard wads of hell.

  • Arby's Curly fries are wonderful. Their sandwiches don't count since Roast Beef Sandwiches >>>>>>> Burgers. But that is an argument for another thread!

Chick-fil-A's fries are also very good. The waffle cut allows them to stay crispy for a long time.
Never been to an In-and-Out.
Love the 5 Guys Fries. They seem more homemade than most other places. I love the fact that they just throw a bunch in a bag.
I also love the 5 Guys Burgers. I enjoy the fact that you have multiple choices on their menu. I know what I like and I can order it!
I hate going into a McD and getting burgers with mustard. Or having to special order something in order to not get it without it. Annoying. Although at McD they recently have had a burger with caramelized onions and cheddar on their $1 menu which is really good.

I might have to at least nod at Curse in here because I also think i can visually tell if something is gonna be good or not. I know that might sound weird to some folks but I also agree that I like pizza places where Ic an grab a slice or two, usually look at the pizzas that are done and choose form there. Golden Boy in San Fran has some outstanding sheets of pizza for you to peruse thru before ordering.

We have Rustica here in miami for sheet pizza, it's not bad but it ain't no Golden Boy I assure you. I walked into one place tonight, food didn't look like anything special, decided to go somewhere else. Almost 40 years walking this Earth grabbing #### and putting it in my mouth, I think by now I can do a visual pass/fail.

Only certain kinds of food though.

Man that Olive Garden commercial with the Fettuccine Alfredo looks delicious. Let's go honey, I know what good food looks like!!! /MOP
