The Chris Johnson Hype machine (3 Viewers)

CJ3 fell to me (no lie) at #11 overall in my dynasty league rookie draft. After seeing him play the last two weeks, I think he should have gone #1 overall. I feel blessed. He's going to be really good. People are saying "Poor Man's Reggie Bush" but I think Chris and Reggie are pretty comparable in what they bring to their respective teams. I'd call them even on potential and skill set, with Reggie getting the nod in QB play and name recognition. I really like him. He needs a good nick-name... lets think of one...

Interesting. LBJ has yet to crack my starting lineup, but this might be the week.
LeBron James hasn't made your lineup?Lyndon B. Johnson is a must-start! He was the first president to appoint an African American to the Supreme Court.

Ya the LBJ name is just dumb. Flash is so much more like him..i say we call him Flash from now on...any one with me on this???
I prefer CJ3, but at Flash is a decent nickname.

Chris Johnson is definitely living up to the hype. I drafted him in my keeper league because of all the chatter on this board and i am not regretting it. Thanks to all of the contributions from the people on this board who flogged him all offseason while the rest of my league mates were obsessed with the obvious McFadenn, Forte, Smith, Mendenhall, Jones, Smith, etc.....

He has been a true savior with LJ crapping it out on the lowly Chiefs. He is a big reason why my big money team is still 2-0. Well, Brandon Marshall too!

I am expecting a nice week against the Texans. A few more catches should be in order and his first rushing TD should come on a longer run.

I am predicting a line like this:

95 Rushing yards and a TD

5-50

Sorry I can't roll with you on this one. I find LBJ amusing. My leaguemates/haters seem to find it extremely irritating. I think I'll stick with it.

I did read an article where they called him "Captain Quick".

I am not sure if the writer made it up or if that is what his coaches/teammates call him. Seems fitting though. CQ?

After drafting Moss first in my PPR league, I was left with MJD, Lendale, Fred Taylor and Maroney. I traded Moss away for Cotchery and Johnson today and honestly, I think I'm better off. Well, that or I'm just VERY good at deluding myself. I'm on board, guys. CJ3 ftw!

:hifive: I have also permanently benched LJ for Chris Johnson. This just proves what the Sharks say...TRUST YOUR EYES!! I was aware of his college highlights but he jumped way up on my draft board after what people on this board call "The Run" in the preseason. He jumped up again on my board after seeing him actually run into contact along the sidelines a la Marion Barber...Can't wait to see what he does to HOU this weekend!!

I have him, and I'm very high on him going forward, but I'm not 100% sure about this weekend's matchup. On the one hand, I think the Houston guys may be a little preoccupied with real life stuff right now after Ike came through town, so they may not be the most focused. But on the other hand, they've had two weeks to right the ship after playing Pittsburgh, while the coaching staff has more game film on the Titans than the Titans have on them. I don't think this is a bad matchup, but I would temper expectations a little.

Great response. I totally forgot about "FLASH80". The best receiver in the history of the NFL.

From this article:

"He's a special guy with special talents, and we just have to find ways to give him the ball," Fisher said.

"The young running back has added a punch to them for big-play ability that's obvious when you watch him," said Houston coach Gary Kubiak, who gets to try and slow Johnson down Sunday.

Johnson also has five catches for 46 yards and a touchdown, putting him atop the AFC in yards from scrimmage.

Johnson leads the NFL with 12 first downs and also can pick up blitzers well. Fisher said their challenge is helping him shed the block so the running back can get loose.

"Once you get him the ball in the open field, he's fairly dangerous," Fisher said.

A shoestring tackle stopped Johnson on an 18-yard run against Jacksonville, and defenders stopped him by taking an angle in Cincinnati. He promises once he finds open space, he won't be caught like the 66-yard touchdown he had in the preseason.

"I'm ready for one in the regular season," he said.

Indeed Jeff. He's special...special to all of us. This week may the masses be enlightened by sweet LBJ...the greatest human being of all-time.

In our 14 team redraft league where you can start up to 4 RBs (1 RB, 1 WR, 3 Flex), I got him in the 10th round as the 45 RB taken behind: LTAPWestyGoreSJaxAddaiBarberLJPortisGrantLynchJones-DrewJ.LewisBushK.SmithMcGaheeFWPJacobsMaroneyJuliusTurnerGrahamT.JonesForteMcFaddenFredRonnieB.LaMont JordanSelvinJ.StewartDeAngeloEdgeFargasLenDaleRickyC.PerryRay RiceKenny WatsonDeuceAhmad BradshawMendenhallRudiChester T.MoMoThese players were also taken in front of him:Nate Washington16 TEs (including Marcus Pollard)6 Kickers

Is the bloom wearing off Johnson's rose a bit? Depending on your league's scoring system, it's possible his production has declined each of the past two games. He wasn't all that impressive today given the opposition. A smidge over 70 yards against the Texans is pretty underwhelming. White is clearly the goal-line option and surprisingly (to me anyway), Johnson is a non-factor in the passing game - even with Collins at QB. So he's not delivering in that area as many expected. He isn't likely to do much next week against the Vikings. Has he lost his Must Start status for the time being?

I think they didn't need him too much so why pound him against a team that is clearly inferior.

Very  White is the RB back to own 4tds in 3 games

Redraft is a whole different ballgame, but wow, CJ owners in dynasty leagues have got to be giddy ( I know I am). This isn't an overnight process. It took guys like Brian Westbrook awhile to become studs, & CJ might be no different. I think when a running back like CJ comes along (which inevitably causes a lot of stir here at FBG), people forget he's only got two games under his belt. It doesn't happen overnight. Patience, grasshopper.

CJ will eventually work his way into a true feature back role. And give the Titans time to get him some more help at the other skill positions. That'll open up the offense & he'll even be more effective. I look at CJ much the way I do Matt Forte. Look at what Forte is doing without much help from not only the other skill positions, but a below-average OL. Forte has been amazing. Same with CJ. TEN & CHI will build around their franchise RBs. Look out when these two kids get more help. These are two really, really talented young RBs.

I'm not questioning his talent or his long-term potential - both of which I'm very high on. But his production is trending in the wrong direction. Meanwhile, LenDale White is becoming the top fantasy RB on that team; Johnson is an afterthought in the passing game and the Vikings are up next on the schedule. I think a lot of folks - myself included - got real giddy after Week 1. But now reality is setting in and reality could be real ugly for Johnson next week. I'm curious as to how many Johnson owners will be sitting him next week. He isn't likely to get much on the ground and he's not being used in the passing game so I'd say he has very little upside in Week 4.

he's definitely in other teams' game plans now after week 1 and after rushing for over 100 yds in week 2. Chris Johnson has the passion for the game, I think he will learn to adjust and be more effective in the coming weeks.

Don't forget this is the hype train, just when you count him out, watch him blow up next week against the Vikings D !!!!!!!!!!

Benched him for LT and Turner this week. He's just soo good I said let me bench LT for him, and pull Turner out of the lineup just to make it fair!!!

Kneejerk madness, gotta love it. WHo was it that benched him for LJ?!? Played out well this week...

I hope so. Unfortunately, he's gone from an exciting RB2 with skyhigh potential to a very ordinary RB3 who may not get many TDs this season as long as White stays healthy.

BTW, the Vikes held Carolina's outstanding RBBC duo to 17-42. That's about a 2.5 YPC, LOL. I'd say CJ/White have their work cut out for them.

Not sure if I'll sit CJ or not (depending on my various options), but I certainly don't expect him to go off or anything. CJ might end up having an unproductive day...we'll see. Still, at the end of the season, CJ will have put up some outstanding numbers, IMO.

Chris Johnson is who I thought he was!

He's exactly as advertised: a dynamic committee back with the speed to make game changing plays.

It's still too early to definitively say he'll never be "the man" for a team. It took Tiki and Westbrook a few years to earn that role. That said, I think people were being unrealistic if they were expecting a 197 pound back to become the sole ball carrier.

There's no way to say with any certainty how his career will play out, but right now he looks an awful lot like Warrick Dunn on the Falcons/Bucs or Charlie Garner on the Raiders. He brings a nice element of speed and is clearly the most talented back on the team, but he's losing carries and goal line opportunities to a mediocre big back. That's right out of the Dunn/Garner playbook.

Blasphemy.HE'S THE NEXT MICHAEL BENNETT!!!

I don't see the Dunn/Garner comparisons at all. Both of those RBs were good receivers and key figures in their team's passing games. Garner, in particular, was an exceptional receiver out of the backfield. Johnson is a non-factor in the passing game. I don't think those comparisons hold up given how he isn't being used as a receiver and given how (especially with Garner) receiving skills were huge reasons why Dunn and Garner were so successful.

Johnson is a good receiver. As a matter of fact, I think he played at least one season as a WR at ECU. He definitely has the skills to excel in the passing game if given more opportunities. In terms of production, he's practically the splitting image of Warrick Dunn during the Duckett years in Atlanta. Lots of carries and yards, but relatively few TDs compared to the league's elite scorers.

Johnson may be a good receiver but he isn't being used at all in the passing game. So I don't agree with comparisons made to RBs such as Garner and Dunn, who were huge figures in their team's passing games - especially Garner.

Johnson is on pace for about 37 catches this season. In six seasons with Atlanta, Dunn had the following reception totals:503729292237That's 34 catches per season on average.
