The cocktail thread (4 Viewers)

Let's talk low-ABV cocktails.  Warmer days have arrived, which typically translates to my lightweight wife wanting to drink earlier.  Some things we've done recently:

Aperol spritz

Roman Holiday (amaro, sweet vermouth, lemon juice, ss, mint) <--- I enjoyed this, but too herbal for her

South Side (muddled mint, gin, lemon juice, ss, club soda) <---- I enjoyed the gin, she took it with vodka

Sweet & dry vermouths with club soda

Palomas cut with club soda

Club soda just seems to be an easy trick to cut the alcohol, but would like to experiment more with fresh herbs and juices.

whatchagot?
I make some mean mojitos

An Americano is my go to low ABV summer cocktail, though usually after already having a Negroni. But I love Campari.

Ok, was riffing a bit. This isn’t a paloma, but what is it then?

2 oz Joven Mezcal

2 oz grapefruit juice

1 oz lemon juice

1/2 oz agave nectar

My all time favorite:  Rye Whiskey Sour

3oz Rye whiskey (I go with the easy Sazerac)
2oz fresh lime juice
2.2 oz simple syrup (1:1 water to sugar, typical)
The egg white from 1 large egg
3 Luxardo cherries

Get all the ingredients, add them to a shaker (I usually weigh it in there), add ice, shake like crazy.  Then pour into a cocktail glass with cherries on bottom and 5-7 cubes of ice and a stirrer straw.

This is basically a double version of the recipe, but why make anything less than a full glass worth?
Enjoying another one of these...just so damned delicious.

Sherry-based cocktails like The Adonis are typically low-ABV.

Adonis is 1.5 oz apiece of dry sherry and sweet vermouth and two dashes of orange bitters.

Are you using an amontillado sherry? That's what I use when making this cocktail and I add an orange twist

If you want a drier style cocktail, make the Bamboo: Sub dry vermouth for the sweet vermouth and sub a lemon twist for the orange twist. (Use a fino sherry if you want an even drier cocktail)

do you go 50/50 or heavier on the scotch?
Started off 50/50, but then topped off with scotch to make it heavier on scotch.  My first time making and having it -- I think, in the end, I prefer either scotch alone or disaronno alone over the Godfather, but, eh, something different.

Someone I know just asked if there's a website where you can enter in whatever ingredients you have on hand, and it spits out recipes for what you can make.

Does that exist? Because if it doesn't, that sounds like a great idea

I use bartener.live, an app I think I paid a couple bucks for. It does exactly this.

Keeping with the margarita theme, made a couple of these with freshly squeezed lime juice today. I’m still a bit of novice, and usually use the pre-mix, just add liquor.  I was out of mix, but had limes and simple syrup available.  I think it tasted better than what I usually have on hand. I added one ounce of triple sec for two servings to the recipe.

For cinco, a riff on the Range Life which is already a riff on the Negroni. Given the original name and the high ABV, I call it a Pavement.

1.5 oz tequila

.5 oz mezcal

1.5 oz campari

1 oz punt e mes

.5 oz solerno (or cointreau)

Wife and I really enjoying this one:

Muddle 2 strawberries and 3 mint leaves
2oz vodka
1/2oz lemon juice
1/2 oz simple syrup
Shake, double strain
Club soda topper

Been a long-### week.

So my wife had a vodka-white claw-raspberry slushie and I had a glencairn of Yamazaki 12, neat. Bring on Friday.

was all set to make some cocktails using basil this weekend.  apparently instacart workers don't know the difference between basil and mint, which is what I've used the past two weeks.

pray for me.

Smashes or mojitos in your future I think :lmao:

Been really enjoying the  "Last Word" recently. Could be that I just need another cocktail to throw a couple luxardo cherries in other than my Manhattans.

Ingredients
3/4 ounce gin
3/4 ounce green Chartreuse
3/4 ounce maraschino liqueur
3/4 ounce fresh lime juice
Steps
Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake.

Double-strain into a chilled coupe glass.

The wife was jonesin to try Peanut butter Whiskey.

Picked some up last weekend, she made a Peanut butter Cup martini.

I had a taste. Was pretty damn delicious.

2/3 Screwball Peanut butter whiskey

1/3 Creme de Cacao

Shaker w/ ice and let it fly

Yeah, she got wrecked. Was a fun night.

One of my favorites. Love all the equal

parts cocktails.

I got lemon juice instead of the lime juice that I ordered today.  I guess I'll be making some Lemon Drop Martinis and Bee's Knees instead of margaritas.

since you’re looking for a drink to put some good like soda cherries in, I posted this about four or five pages back

Low Ryeder

2 oz Low Gap Rye Whiskey

.5 oz Maraschino Liqueur

.5 oz Punt e Mes

Dash of Cherry Bitters

Dash of Chocolate Bitters (I love it with Aztec Chocolate Bitters but again, not found everywhere)

Stir ingredients until well chilled, served in a martini glass, Luxardo Cherry Garnish

Is this one of yours @Jules Winnfield?  Went looking for a pic, and it yielded a number of low “rider” recipes, most tequila or mezcal based. Either way I will give it a run thx

Had a little blood and sand tonight, delicious.

Equal parts:

Orange Juice

Scotch (blended, not too peaty, I used Johnnie Walker Black)

Sweet Vermouth

Cherry Liqueur (recommend Heering)

Then drop a maraschino cherry or two in there.
