The force of nature that is Taylor Swift - New Album coming April 2024 (6 Viewers)

the only ones upset at this is the "guys club" type of people who use Sunday football to hang with the boys and get out of the house. I dont do that but I know a lot of guys who do and I don't hold that against them (Sheeze, I wish I had my Sundays free from kid's sports and house errands to do that). To them, I bet they look at it as an intrusion on "their thing" esp when the wife/gf is really only there to squee over TS, not actually watch the game and ask a whole lot of dumb questions like "why do they slap each other's butts so much??"

There was a shot of TS from last night kinda mocking how they "bro hug" and dab each other between plays. Guys dont need that energy when they just want to be guys.

However, from an NFL standpoint, this is such a great opportunity to bring in young female demographic fans that you might almost think it was a scripted marketing campaign. I dont think I've heard or seen more women say the word "football" in a positive light since forever like I have in the last 2 weeks. I think I heard Kelce's jersey shot to one of the highest-selling jerseys within hours of the news breaking. Now how many stay past the hype is yet to be seen. But I'm sure the female viewership for a regular season game (esp a Jets game) is off the charts today.

There was a funny TikTok trend going around last week where wives/gf's were telling their husbands/BFs "How awesome it is that TS put this 'Kelce guy' on the map. I mean no one had ever heard of him until TS started going to games" and filming their reaction. lol

That's not the case. There are a *LOT* of other people upset at this, but as Tim said, we can't get political. Suffice it to say, there are headlines that read Taylor Swift's Popularity Is A Sign Of Societal Decline.

I'll leave it there.
:bored:

I'm not saying you're wrong, and I'm not wasting my time googling it, but I wouldn't give those types of "articles" the respect of training a dog on them.

And I prob fit the "type of person politically" they may be aimed at.

Shes a pretty celebrity, he's an athlete, its the HS cheerleader/Varsity QB thing that has been swooned over hundreds of times. (as i said uptread) TBH I find her fans trying to mentally diagnose everything she does like it's some grand master clue as to her next song insufferable.
She’s not a cheerleader! She doesn’t want to be a cheerleader. She’s on the bleachers…
And he’s not the starting QB. You completely missed my point (which oddly enough out of the whole post was the least important)

HS cheerleader = the pretty girl. I.e. the biggest female celebrity right now. I don’t expect her to be in a KC colored outfit and waving pompoms on the sideline 🤦‍♂️

GB, it's a song of hers....he was making a funny
apologies.....I know nothing of her song catalog......unlike Michael Bolten...I celebrate his whole catalog.

sorry @timschochet I took that wayyyy out of context

lol.....WHY SHOULD I CHANGE MY NAME! HE'S THE ONE WHO SUCKS!

I have an 11 year old daughter, so I'm familiar with almost all of Swift's songs. Though I've learned over the years that even without a daughter, I'd morph into a Swift fan. I think she's an incredible song writer, artist, performer and person. Her last few albums are some of my favorite and I don't think it's all because I have low-T (though maybe?).

Ahhhh, there it is. The dismissive Taylor Swift take. All she does is sing and dance.
Yep. And it's a sexist take. Not to mention that she doesn't identify as a singer or dancer. If someone asks her what her profession is, she will always say songwriter. That is the defining characteristic of her chosen profession, and someone assuming she just sings like certain old female pop stars, neither of whom were songwriters, is a comment you know they'd never make about a male musician.

The Jets/Chiefs game thread last night had some scorching hot takes on Swift, complete with her attractiveness on a scale of 1-10 being a 6 at best. Where do these guys live where Swift is a 6? That's where I want to live!
A 6? More like a 16! I dont listen to her music, but she's in the top ultra-percental in attractiveness and talent.

But the funny thing is that Ryan Reynolds (and Huge Jackman) were also in the box with the Swift group, and some hetero dudes would even admit to having a man-crush on.

As a hetero male, I will fully acknowledge that he and Blake Lively (who is drop dead gorgeous) make for a great looking couple.

She is the biggest and most popular musician on the planet right now. Her showing up to a televised national sporting event is going to be big news and get covered a lot.

If the biggest and most popular athlete (whoever that is right now) on the planet showed up to a highly publicized music event/concert, it would be big news and get major coverage.

Not sure how this is surprising to anyone.
I seriously doubt this. Guys like Messi, LeBron, Brady, etc. probably go to concerts all the time, and you don't know about it because they're in boxes, not down there with the plebes. As famous as those guys are, Taylor Swift is famous to a qualitatively different degree.

Everybody in this thread knows exactly who Aaron Donald is, but Aaron Donald could walk into any supermarket in America and go about his business with most people never even noticing that he's there. I doubt Taylor Swift could do that even if she was dressed down and out of makeup. She wouldn't make it out of the parking lot before getting mobbed.

There's different degrees of "famous." "Sports famous" isn't really all that famous with just a few exceptions.

That is very true.

I sense that Taylor probably misses being able to interact with fans in a casual setting - when she was young, she used to go to record stores on release day of her albums and hang out and chat with the fans all day (back when many still bought physical CDs), and as recently as the late 2010s, she would go to a local Target on release day and take pics with fans who were there buying her new album - but I cannot imagine how it must feel to have to built up the mammoth fanbase that she now has.

As for those saying that Kelce was a nobody before this, the people whom would be bothered by that are probably the same lunkheads who think only teenage girls listen to her music, so I consider this a payback of sorts. :P

Heard an interview with Jerry Rice and he talked about his fame and popularity exploding after he won Dancing with the Stars. He said he could go out in public before and he'd be stopped a couple of times, nothing too intrusive. After DWTS he said he got mobbed.

Right - MJ, Tiger, probably Gretzky - probably Lebron and I'm sure there are others crossed over to "regular famous"

Ironically, they’re kind of right. He has added 800,000 Instagram followers in a week. That’s like a 30% bump which is more followers than he added after all 3 Super Bowls combined. His Jersey sales shot through the roof increasing by 400%. Last week’s Chiefs game was the most watched NFL game of the week. Female viewership was up 8% versus last year in that time slot.

Obviously NFL fans knew of Kelce, but Swift’s level of fame dwarfs every single player in the league by a LOT. She’s on her own planet in regards to fame.

Romo kind of touched on this last night. He said that when Swift and Kelce left last week’s game in Kelce’s convertible, it was probably her first time not riding around in an armored vehicle in a long time. Romo would have some idea about this having dated Jessica Simpson when she was still really famous.

I thought it was Collinsworth who said that.

Before DWTS, after DWTS, today, tomorrow, or any other day I still have breath, if I saw Jerry Rice I'd dry hump his leg.

Even braids Rice?

You’re 100% right. Getting my announcers that annoy me mixed up. Yeah, Collingsworth made a good point, but obviously his life experience isn’t going to be the same as Romo‘s, sooooo….

I'm a Cowboys fan and I'd weep if I met him.

Sidenote: I had a pair of his receiver gloves for about 10 years. Like, he actually wore them before they were mine. And like a dummy, I ruined them.

(I'd put her at a 7, but the 6 joke is hilarious)

I am not a fan of the super red lipstick thing that has become her signature look. I think she is way more attractive when she goes for warmer and less gaudy colors. She looked stunning when playing SNL in 2019:

Idk, I see many good looking women like Taylor every day on the street. Even in the video you posted, I see a couple girls in the crowd with intriguing smiles. Taylor is a solid 6.5. @offdee ?

I’m sure she’s devastated.

I agree though. I feel like she may actually wear it almost like a costume at this point putting on a face that isn’t her to feel like she protects her privacy by not showing her true self.

Or maybe she just likes bright red.

She looks much different without makeup (But I realize most girls do).

I'm not saying she's ugly, and I do respect her singing/songwriting/performing talent... but there's something off about her look to me.

Well, I don't want to get into a debate over her attractiveness and/or start the rating silliness, but I just wanted to point out the look of hers that I find the most attractive. She is a pretty lady in general, and I think her eyes are particularly attractive. I will leave it at that.

Do you write her letters?

I'm a leg man, so she's about as perfect as one can get in my mind. Flawless skin, great smile...again, if she's a 6, I want to move where you guys live.
She is pretty. Not sure about her skin because I've never seen a picture of her without make-up. I'd say she is more cute than sexy. A nice generic vanilla look. A solid midfielder.

Is world famous and wayyy wayyy more recognizable throughout the world than American Girl famous Taylor Swift.

It's like comparing Ronaldo with Taylor Swift. It's not even close, and not in the way chauvinistic (not the sexist kind, but the real definition of the word) American teeny boppers and their Moms think. Women all over the world know who Ronaldo is, and it's not in the tee hee freak out way that American girls know Taylor.

Don't forget, we're talking less than half of our population vs. the world here. Like Europe. And the Middle East. And Asia. Like China and Japan.

These places don't care a whit about Taylor Swift in the grand scale or scheme of things. But they know Ronaldo.

By the way, I missed Taylor kidding about male celebrations and football.

It's actually the sort of belittling that American women do every day to their husbands, and it's not surprising. Ever watch a commercial where the guy is right and the girl apologizes? Okay, you haven't. Ever.

Never ever ever ever ever.

It's generally -- over the past forty years -- become (and was even worse in the nineties and aughts) de rigueur to make fun of anything masculine and de rigueur to laud any sort of sappy, over-the-top femininity. Oprah's vogueishness. The effeminate male becoming very popular (anybody with a sense of humor can remember the Simpsons and Lisa's addiction to Non-Threatening Boy Magazine) throughout culture. And for teenage girls, non-threatening singing/dancing boy bands where the members are of ambiguous sexuality and ooze makeup and dripping femininity. Or laments about boys and masculinity like Taylor has made a career off of. Boys' ineptitude. Boys being mean. Boys failing. Boys boys boys boys boys and their flaws.

That's the world of Taylor. You can deny it and squee over her all you want and think you're white knighting everybody by reporting my posts and getting me the banhammer, but you're all -- in the words of Taking Back Sunday -- such a sucker/you know you're such a sucker/and will you tell all your friends/you've got your gun to my head/this song was only wishful thinking/this song was only wishful thinking.

I mean, there were songs written over twenty years about the cult of this garbage. Men's rebellion, as it were. The ironic thing? Girls loved these bands. The naughties were something else.

And I personally don't really care too much about all these things anymore. But I can certainly see where Taylor-ization of football sets some people uneasy.

I really didn't care the other night. Football was made for cutaways, and frankly, better Taylor than somebody like Lady Gaga or the sons of football scions.

It's new life in the football grind. Bless it. But God the level of idolatry in this thread is stunning. And then getting reported by some man-child and suspended? That's crazier than beating on Beatles limousines and tearing them apart to have a piece of them.

Hoo boy.

You really seem angry about her.

No. Not in the least, actually. I've drafted her in music drafts, defended her a long time ago (believe it!), thought she was "neat," etc.

What I can't stand is getting reported and suspended for questioning the idolatry shown in this thread.

What I do care about is when a bunch of man-children come out of the woodwork and take the ***** way out instead of directly addressing me.

That would be where I draw the line in the community sand, you know? So if it sounds like I'm on it with her, perhaps it would be more accurate to back up, take the longer view, and think about it this way: I'm at it with the forces that reported me, got me suspended, and the anonymous mod that lacked context or intelligence enough to call it for what it was.

I don't play anonymous on this board. People know who I am in real life. To get anonymously reported and have an anonymous mod castigate me in the suspension reason is pissing me off. That's what's making me angry. I thought it wouldn't, but man, does it ever.

On a different note, our T. Swift shirts arrived yesterday from Raygun. Debating when, and how often, to wear this weekend. Thinking I’m going to rock for my soccer game on Sunday.
