? You just watched part of them?I’ve started 2 today - Schindlers List and one I can’t comment on until it’s picked.
I’ll finish them in the next day or two. Wife doesn’t like “old” movies so I try to watch those when I’m by myself.? You just watched part of them?
I was on a long walk Sunday morning and listening to my "favorite songs" Spotify mix. One of the songs from this came on, and I thought, "Dammit, I hope someone takes that in the movie draft." Yay!
I wanted to pick this but didn't know for what or when. I love this movie.6.14 The Sting
ill go greatest movie for now, until I understand the historical drama cat a little better. is this a movie that would fit there?
almost took this at 5.03. So happy it made it back![]()
I don't see why it's not. It's set in the 1930s and was filmed in the 1970s. The time period is definitely part of the plot and they took time to create the details of the era.6.14 The Sting

yeah no category jumps out. depending on what ends up in the greatest movie cat, this could do very well.I wanted to pick this but didn't know for what or when. I love this movie.
Awesome. And it's the source for Bugs Bunny too...true story!6.12 - It Happened One Night - Rom Com
Prettymuch invented the genre. And swept the "big 5" oscars. Won't say much more for anti-spotlighting purposes.

I won’t spotlight either, but I was reading an article a few years back about how every romantic comedy made since its release owes something to It Happened One Night. And not even that narrow — even Spaceballs (already drafted, so I can spotlight that one) pulls from it. Great movie that still holds up.6.12 - It Happened One Night - Rom Com

That is a good point. While The Sting is really fun, was a huge hit and won Best Picture, it feels more like an Old Hollywood movie. It's more of an escape from the 70's than a representation of it.to me that should be a movie about the 70s
The old-time radio fan in me also acknowledges his contribution to that medium with his always high-production Lux Radio Theater, which adapted current popular movies and stage shows into radio dramas, often featuring the actual actors from each to reprise their roles.Pick 6.8 - GallStein selects Cecil B. DeMille - Legendary Director (Category 40)
Between 1914 and 1958, DeMille made a total of 70 features, both silent and sound films. He is acknowledged as a founding father of the American cinema and the most commercially successful producer-director in film history. His films were distinguished by their epic scale and by his cinematic showmanship. His silent films included social dramas, comedies, Westerns, farces, morality plays, and historical pageants.
More write up later as this was @Charlie Steiner selection.
It created every movie ever where 2 opposites come together, hate each other and then end up realizing they are in love or best friends or perfect partners- depending on movie context. It extends to nearly every genre.I won’t spotlight either, but I was reading an article a few years back about how every romantic comedy made since its release owes something to It Happened One Night. And not even that narrow — even Spaceballs (already drafted, so I can spotlight that one) pulls from it. Great movie that still holds up.

Thats what happens when you forced to pick movies from the 1930'sDidn't realize my fellow drafters were senior citizens.
Not me but my dad was a big film buff and so I got both exposed to and interested in a lot of movies as a kidDidn't realize my fellow drafters were senior citizens.
@Kumerica - first, thank you for judging! For Movie Star there's actually four in total (Legendary and Modern for both sexes) - do you want to clarify which you want or do you want all 4? (that would be 9 categories in total - which is a lot to ask of you)Hmmmm . . . yes . . . perhaps 16 is way too many. To paraphrase a certain movie star in a certain ensemble 2000s movie, my eyes were bigger than my stomach. Forget what I said, and let's stick with the following 7 categories for me to judge--I'll be back on keto soon and can't deal with a muffin basket.
1) Comedy
2) Romantic Comedy
3) Space
4) Science Fiction On Earth
5) Fantasy
6) Modern Movie Stars (guy)
7) Modern Movie Stars (girl)
And if we're in a pinch, I can take more on if needed.
Yeah, you can't be a lover of movies and not watch all the movies.Not me but my dad was a big film buff and so I got both exposed to and interested in a lot of movies as a kid
This was the one I wrote down today for the category. Like 80s said, I thought I might be able to snag it a little later.Pleasantly surprised at all the love for It Happened One Night. It really is a fun movie.
I can see it fitting very nicely into 5 categories. Maybe the most flexible movie out there. Great choice!That might go to 1960s. Ought to score highly either way.
@KarmaPunk you're up
Yep, we had this very discussion heh.I can see it fitting very nicely into 5 categories. Maybe the most flexible movie out there. Great choice!
Have you ever seen a Commie drink a glass of water?Yep, we had this very discussion heh.
Two primo picks here. Pan's Labyrinth is twisted mang.6.16: CITY OF GOD - gangster movie
7.01: PAN'S LABRYRINTH - fantasy movie
Ok, I thought one would be safe for awhile. Love love love that movie.6.12 - It Happened One Night - Rom Com
Prettymuch invented the genre. And swept the "big 5" oscars. Won't say much more for anti-spotlighting purposes.
@higgins
Great pick. One thing that made me hesitate a little on my Kane pick is writing down all the 40s movies and realizing how deep that category could be.7.02: Maltese Falcon - 1940's
It's almost impossible to do write-ups without spotlighting but Maltese Falcon doesn't need me to pimp it. Getting this in Round 7![]()
@joffer
Strangely enough, they were both nominated for Best Picture (being from the same year)... and neither won!Great pick. One thing that made me hesitate a little on my Kane pick is writing down all the 40s movies and realizing how deep that category could be.
####We have some coming off the board in the form of Spirited Away and Seven Samurai, so let's see how some more foreign movies fare in this draft, especially in non-foreign categories.
6.16: CITY OF GOD - gangster movie
7.01: PAN'S LABRYRINTH - fantasy movie
Of course I think these are top picks for the categories. They also give me some flexibility, as I think City of God is one of the best movies of the 00s, so if I get backed into a corner I could move it there or into the foreign language categories.
For those playing along, Pan's Labyrinth is on Netflix, City of God is on Hoopla (whatever the hell that is) and is just $2.99 to rent on Prime - well worth it
@AAABatteries and @hagmania are back OTC
I think if you moved Kane to the Best Movie Ever category, it might score okGreat pick. One thing that made me hesitate a little on my Kane pick is writing down all the 40s movies and realizing how deep that category could be.
I figured I have that flex option too. With all the great movies drafted into other categories, that "greatest movie ever" category is going to be interesting.I think if you moved Kane to the Best Movie Ever category, it might score ok
You're on the wavelength here. Maybe we should pay you ESP consulting fees.Vercy nice- was on my radar for best movie based on a book as well.
