Allow me to make a non partisan political comment here:
This is really dumb. Every 4 years these Presidential candidates, whose thoughts and decisions affect the lives of 300 million people, spend nearly half of their time during the year before the election trying to suck up to a few thousand folks in Iowa, talking about farm subsidies and local issues. It makes no sense. It’s certainly not Democratic in any sense. If you want to argue rural vs urban, fine: what about all the thousand other rural areas that get ignored while Iowa gets their time in the sun? Surely Rhode Island would like a say in the election while it’s still a race? Or Maine? Or 49 other states?
I’m not making an argument for a one day primary. Nor am I saying my state of California should be more prominent, even though we have the most people. I’m simply saying that maybe we could mix it up a little and not always start with Iowa, then New Hampshire, then South Carolina? Give some other people a chance to have some influence in this stuff.
