My 1979 CJ-7 w/304 V-8, Quadra-trac, automatic is still on the market! I'd let it go for grand!
More details please :hey:
All original, No extras, and less than 200K. Never been off-road. I'm original owner too.Body needs lots of work, full of BondoNeeds seats and a fuel sending unitRuns great and gets about 10 mpgPretty much just sits outside the garage looking for a antique/classic collector to give ole Vesuvius a new home.

Hey Icon, here are the videos of my buddies XJ getting pulled out.

Definitely not in your DD. I guess I just got to the point where I drove my Jeep like once every three months to go hard core rock crawling, but I drive my new Jeep every single day. I do miss the hard core stuff a little but my new jeep is pretty capable. The guy I bought my Jeep from has taken it to every legendary place on this side of the country, Moab, The Rubicon, Logandale, the hammers, etc. There are trail at every place that are less aggressive.

Another great site is www.ecoyne.com

It is a really small community of guys, mostly from two places, Las Vegas and the badlands area, but there is a wealth of knowledge there and it is made up of good people.

' date='May 1 2007, 04:33 PM' post='6696703']Sounds good Flying V... I agree on the regional deals. Jeep prices are inflated here as well. Around here you're looking at $10-12k for a 1999-2001 model with $100K.. and that's for a basic rig with maybe a crappy 3" body lift and some worn out 33s or something. Definitley look into the rig. It's possible it could have the rear swwaybar disconnected as well... if it feels like the rear is torquing more than usual. That said, I'm not sure why they would have pulled it if they were never taking it offroad. I leave mine in (you always want to leave the rear in) and I take mine some pretty crazy places that require significant flex.Keep us posted on the negotiations.... got me curious how this goes :o
I got him down to $12, 900. I don't think he's going to go any lower, but I'm going to give it another day before I bring the cash.
UPDATE:I told the dealer I wasn't comfortable shelling out that kind of cash with such a handling problem. He did some research and decided the problem was a junk track bar. He must have been right because he replaced it and eliminated the problem. I gave him the $12,900 and went mountain cruising on Sunday.YEEHAW!

AHH... they probably didn't put in a relocation bracket or an adjustable up front to recenter the axles. Makes sense. So WTF.. no Pics? :unsure:POST PICS :o

Yep Icon leave it us jeep guys to over diagnose the issue  Stupid relocation bracket :D

You ever tried to take a rear TB relo bracket OFF? Running JKS Adjustables front and rear and I love em...

I'm not a Jeep guy.

My neighbor, however, just put a Garrett hybrid turbo on his '06 Rubicon 6-cylinder. It's pretty badass.

Great pics man... no way I'd take my rig on some of htose trails at this point.... still my DD. I'll run class 3s and 4s up at superlift but about half the 4s and almost alll 5s are body damage guarantees :blackdot:

That TJ on Rockwells IS sick... flexy as hell. What setup was he running? Back HAD to have been a custom fabbed triangulated rear...no?

Not sure exactly what all he has going on on that thing. It is insane to watch though. One time he drove all the way over the top of the RTI ramp.

My '93 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I paid $500 for is now dead. Long live the Jeep. :link:

The radiator was cracked slightly and I was trying to make it to the summer w/o anymore repairs since I am now in the process of buying a new car, but about a week ago, the fan belt shredded and all the radiator fluid dropped out the bottom of the vehicle.

Think it is worth hanging onto it and trying to replace the radiator? Or is that too intense/expensive a job for me (someone who had no access to a garage and doesn't normally work on his own vehicle).

I am thinking I could spend my free time and any spare money over the next year and treat it like a hobby to get the vehicle back up and running - that is, if I have a shot in heck of actually being able to do it with my limited ability and limited access to car repair type gear.

ETA - several other major repairs will need to be done, including replacing the rear brake adjusters, rear brakes, and U-joints in the front. That is all before I decide to fix things like the air conditioner and the electrical problems (plus some cosmetic stuff, like a rear bumper).

Replacing the radiator isnt hard, it is barely a two-three hour job. It is a little messy is all. You have to be somewhere that you can spill a little coolant if you must and you need a place to put the coolant. A radiator isnt expensive. Jeeps never die. If is a jeep with the 4.0L 6 cylinder motor, I say fix it and use it for an off road hobby toy. If it is a 4 cylinder or the 2.8 L 6 cylinder, scrap it and move on.

Another guy from our club rolled this weekend. He was in a massive International Scout.....nicknamed "Sumo."

Serious carnage, I will post the pics when I get home from work.

The day after I bought my Jeep a bird pooped on my backseat. Its been almost a year and i finally got my revenge. Nailed one on the way to work. He was stuck in my grill.

Here is the link to the entire trip, some great pics of the whole trip, not just the carnage.....

Damn I need to get out west to do some wheeling.....
The best thing out here is that there are trails for every level of wheeling, so if you want to do some rockcrawling but dont want to risk body damage, there are some great trails for that. If you dont care about breaking crap or getting body damage, there are some really hard core trails as well.

I have a free hardtop for anyone interested. All you have to do is pick it up. PM me if you are interested.

Oops. It's in Massachusetts.

Both of those places look really cool. There are so many great places like that to explore. I need to get down there and check those places out before I move out of the area.

How's it going with the jeep Icon? Finish your upgrades?
Hey man thanks for askin,Got the Poison Spyder Rocker Knockers on (and gouged the hell out of them on a Class 4 within a week). They are quite sturdy.

The BDS Lower Arms I got used need to be rebuilt. Gonna be going from dual poly bushings to poly/flex-joint. No rush on those.

Gave my TeraFlex Bellyup to a buddy who needed it worse than I at this point. I can't install it till I get a new belly Skid that's compatable (Jeep Medic)... I need to get this Warn out from under my rig though... it's looking like a Taco at this point.

I still have yet to install my JKS Quicker Discos though that's being rushed now that the bushings on my OEM Swaylinks have officially #### the bed. Maybe this weekend.

Axle situation got muddy. Had a bead on a 8.8/HP30 combo already geared to 4.56 (both open) for $700 but that seems to have fallen through. Now got a bid on a D44 with a Auburn ETCed Locker and 4.56's for $1000. Not cheap but would be a nice addition. Got a guy who will drop 4.56 in my D30 for free so that would set me up nicely.

My D35 in the back was ready to blow on my last run methinks... need something beefier back there. It is not long for this world. Have a spare set of shafts on the way ($50) but I'm just as likely to grenade the diff.

Also had a guy in our club drop in a nice Alarm. dual stage shock sensor, mercury switch (tow proof), and (my fave) the 2-stage microwave motion detector. Walk up too close to the jeep with the top/doors off and it will chirp at you. STick your arm inside to grab #### out of it and it goes off. Of course all alarms are worthless if they just go off... so I had him pair it with a 2 way pager with 1/3mi range. Pages me in the office/bar/wherever instantly to let me know what sensor has been triggered.... that way I can go pay a visit to whoever is screwing with my rig. :)

Recent Photo from run 2 weeks ago - Just on Slate face...nothing too tough though rain made it tougher >

A little tougher section on "Gorge" (A Class 4 at Superlift ORV Park) > As usual, pictures don't do it justice.. you know how it goes.

Looks like a poser shot but it's a ##### of a pinch point on "Ravine" (Class 3 - Superlift ORV) >

That rock claimed several rocker panels that weekend. When it lands you're off camber hard toward it and have to take a sharp right using the rock as a pivot. Good times. That's where I almost blew my axle trying to get my Pass. Rear over that bump.

Just had a member of our club head out to Moab, UT for a week in his "built" liberty. While it's no Wrangler the thing does pretty damn well on the trails and it's nice to have someone who can carry your spare parts for you on the trail :)

Note that he's more of an expedition-style rider than a hardcore rock crawler and the pics from this run represent that.

That said... some good looking shots here. There is talk of getting a club run together and maybe caravaning 10-20 jeeps from Memphis area out there next summer. Would be a fantastic way to spend a week....

I would say being a trail rig it would depend on the body condition. Given the armor, lockers, cage, winch (what brand/model?), rubber....etc. I think you're looking at 9-10k here. Maybe 7-8k if there are some serious issues (ie leaking seals, damaged control arm and body mounts...etc. You could buy it and unload the hard top for $800 and the rear Detroit for $250 and buy a ARB or OX locker for the rear if you're planning on using this thing on road. Also, with those 36s you're going to need an upgraded steering setup (Currie?) and possibly brakes (Vanco?). If it's a trail only rig then you're good where you're at. The dual detroits will drive you nuts on the road though. Got some pics?

FYI : Jeep just announced a LIFETIME powertrain warranty on all jeep vehicles being sold from here on out. Engine, axles, driveline, transmission, etc.... all covered for LIFE assuming you bring it in every 5 years (within 6mo of that 5yr date) for a full inspection. This warranty is NON transferrable from the orignal owner and begins after the basic factory warranty expires.

IMPRESSIVE :excited:

Hey guys, I have a 2006 Wrangler that I never put the doors on. For my birthday last week my fiance got me the relocation brackets to put my mirrors on the jeep without the doors. I had always imagined I would just buy mirrors that would fit into the slot that the door hinges onto with a nut keeping it in place. Surprisingly, I can't seem to find these simple mirrors I have pictured. Any suggestions? Or should I just stick with the brackets my girl got me?

I had heard of Harley mirrors that worked well and just slide into the hinge holes.

MIrror relo brackets are a PITA and you can't see the passenger side mirror once the doors are on.

4wheelparts.com has some, but they're $110 for the pair. I've been driving the past 2 months without doors or mirrors and it's not as inconvenient as I thought it would be. The cops haven't bothered me, either.

I run doorless/topless about 200-250 days a year. I dont' have any side mirrors and have yet to be harassed by cops. The visibility is so good with doors off that I just turn my head when I need to change lanes or whatever.

Why the :hey: ?
I guess no bag needed. but There are some famous avatar pics in there too. not just the jeep one.

Pretty stoked. Upcoming mods:

- BDS Lower Control Arms - got a set of used ones for a song. Going to pull the existing bushings (standard poly) and rebuild one end (Frame side) with the poly bushings and the other side (axle side) will featuring gyro-joints for added flex and improved durability.

- New Rear Axle :

A buddy with a Massively built rubi us upgrading his axles. He just blew the limited slip in his (40k miles.. it's a known weak link off the assembly line) and the dealer that our club is partnered with is rebuilding the entire rear end under warranty. He's then selling me the new rear end for $1300. This is a steal considering it includes:

- Dana 44 Rear Axle w/ Factory LSD

- Rubicon Air Locker

- He's throwing in the pump with all the hoses and everything (he's got ARB in his new rear)

- Alloy USA Shafts (30% stronger than stock D44 shafts)

- Rockcrusher Diff cover

Overall about a $3000 value.

SHould be doing the swap this weekend. ALready got a guy lined up to buy my Dana 35 for $300 so it's really only costing me a grand. Then next month I'll be regearing both axles to 4.88 ($350 parts and hopefully free labor from a mechanic in our jeep club...we'll see).

Should be f'n BEAST on the trals for our October 1 year anniversary run. :kicksrock:

Those look like some awesome trails. I miss the mud. All we have is rock crawling out here. I actually havent been out in a couple of months, it is just too damn hot, even with air conditioning. It is still over 100 at night here.

I know what you mean about the D35 in the rear. Going from a built D44 to a D35 has made me really uncomfortable but I have done alright so far. I have hte 4.56 Superior gears so I am not too worried.

Sounds awesome man. Let me know how the progress goes, I am intersted to see how much work it ends up becoming. 4.88 gears are just too low for me. I have 4.56 and they are plenty low. Do you still drive that thing on the road? I drive mine everyday as well as rock crawl so I have to stick with the 4.56.

<_< If he intends to go with 35" tires, 4.88s will be fine. But 33" tires will have him revving over 2500 RPM at 65 MPH in overdrive. That's gonna suck up a lot of gas on the highway!

Well there are a few factors that go into my gear selection:1) 4spd Auto TrannyWith the torque converter and then the serious gear reduction of the Overdrive (which I have to turn off right now unless I'm HWY cruising over 80) it requires a steeper gear than the 3sp Auto or a stick. If I had a stick the ideal gear for 33s is 4.56... but there was a great thread over at JeepForum that actually crunched a ton of numbers and I should be cuising right in the low 2000's RPM wise at 75mph on the hgihway.. right about perfect. 2) Going from 33's to 35slikely next summer I will be flatfendering (possibly AEV highline) the rig and moving to a low COG setup for 35s. With 35s I'll definitely want the 4.88s. Gearing ain't cheap so I figured I'd go ahead and get the axles set up for the future. 3) Still running a NP231 TcaseGives me only a 2.72:1 low range which is a bit light for playing in the rocks. I'm eventually going to pick up either a used Rubi Tcase, a TeraLow 4:1 kit or posssibly a Stax 4:1 Tcase replacement but that's down the road. For now I'd like to get a litlte more gear under there. Once I get the 4:1 with the 4.88s though she'll probbaly overrun the brakes on flat ground or descents <_< I will be taking a bunch of pics of the axle swap... .we're hoping to get it done this weekend. Once I get them I'll post some up here.
