The Knick (1 Viewer)

Two episodes in.

Clive Owen being Clive Owen. Subtle so far. Awesome nonetheless.

Great production value. Takes you to another time.

The score should be studied in film/tv classes. Such an effect.

Masters of Sex has been a bit underwhelming so far. The Knick may be the best show of the summer. We'll see.

Liked the first episode alright. They tried to build a story quickly and it fairly effective. Looking forward to the next episode that I have recorded.

Any show that kicks off by having a nurse inject cocaine into the dorsal vein of the leading man's penis has a great deal of promise

You would have to have had a major screw loose to be a surgeon, or true man of science back then (not just a self-proclaimed health expert or whatever) – especially radical surgeons like these dudes. The technological aspect was put into perspective when Clive said they had just experienced, within the last five years at the time, more technological advancement in what they were doing than in the 500 subsequent years combined. Similar technological advancement can be seen elsewhere throughout history, like with the internet or whatever, but man, to be cutting people open like that – using a hand crank as your vacuum tube? Are you kidding me. I mean, the dude is literally smelting his own surgical instruments. That is riding the cusp of some seriously insane technology. Brilliant dudes, I guess, but you must have had major screws loose as a surgeon back then. You also have to wonder what real checks and balances must have been in place for these guys not to just do whatever the hell they wanted to. I guess that's what the stadium seating is for.

It's almost like science fiction. And I don't like the whole blood and guts thing thrown in my face. But it's obvious why it's there. They went just far enough for me not to change the channel and remove it from my DVR queue for how graphic the surgeries were. But once you get past the first episode intact you are pretty much a committed viewer at that point. Thank you.

Is anyone watching this?

Clive Owen and Steven Soderbergh. What more do you want?

Great season so far. Latest episode might be best thing on TV since Breaking Bad.

Interesting how something this good could be so far under the radar. Makes me think a lot out their I'm missing.

How can it be good for HBO that no one is watching The Knick nor Banshee on Cinemax?

I guess HBO has a solid market share that doesn't move much and they are trying to make inroads with another network. Just seems like they are getting so little bang for their buck.

They should dump the first season of The Knick and Banshee on HBOGO. Seems like the obvious move. Even the networks, The Blacklist, are dumping their shows on netflix to gain a following.

Oh well.

First season of The Knick was 8/10. Top 5 show going.

S2 as good if not better than S1. Clive Owen is superb. The Dr. performing exams on hookers, "no need for those stirrups, She can rest her legs over my shoulders." Nurse: I'll get you some swabs Dr: Not necessary, a good nose and a good pair of eyes is all a doctor needs."

:lmao:

I've only seen season 1 and enjoyed it. It's too much grey's anatomy 1905 instead of ER 1905 - I mean some of these plotlines are ridiculous - but very watchable and pretty interesting subject matter.

Which plotlines did you find so ridiculous that youre compelled to compare it to Grey's Anatomy?

I just finished S2E3 and the writer looks so much like toothless gallinger and her sister that i had to stop and go back a couple times to make sure it wasn't her after the scene following her introduction revealed that the wife was leaving the house and semi-conversational again. Aren't they supposed to consider and avoid things like that when casting?

Watched the first episode last night. Really good. Will there be a 3rd season?

Between The Knick, Narcos and Making a Murderer, I have some quality stuff to watch until shows come back in February. I'm not into binge watching so it should last the whole month.

One episode left in season 1. Wow, that last episode was intense. Thackery fiending because there's no cocaine to be found, Edwards and the non-abortion and the woman with the dead baby in the carriage. Great show.

Your 3rd season question is easier to discuss after you have finished watching Season 2. Just finished watching the S2 Finale last night.

Motored through both seasons in about two weeks.  Really enjoyed The Knick and put it up there with the best shows currently airing.  The way Soderbergh shot this deserves high praise and the music was next level.  Hope it gets renewed.

On a personal note, I need to get some sweet white dress shoes like Thack :style:

Loving this show. Almost done with S2. It's so weird that no one knows about this. I stumbled on it accidentally and absolutely love it.
