The middle-aged dummies are forming a band called "Blanket"! It's a cover band. (4 Viewers)

He is gonna be like Willie and keep going until he can't. Willie will be buried with Trigger and Billy will be buried inside his baby grand, and there will be just enough room inside for you to join him when your day comes.
I'd rather Willie roll me up and smoke me when I'm gone.

Forget this roll me and smoke me when I die stuff.

You and I are gonna live forever

Funny how Oasis almost never gets picked in these drafts nor have they retained any respect over the decades. They were awfully big in the mid-'90s.

He’s the man

RIP Taylor Negron, whose cousin could be appearing here at some point.

Not at about 200-300 bucks per ticket (often more) for each concert he’s still putting on.
why should he stop performing as long as people want to see him?
I don’t begrudge him for doing it. Almost everyone I know has spent a bloody fortune seeing him - just not for me.

What's a little boy like you doing with big boy smut like this?

Paul was cute. Mrs. Chancellor and Jill used to get into some good fights.
So last night night I thought about responding to this but didn't b/c I was anticipating a sarcastic "Take this to the soap opera thread" from someone not hip to the joys of the stories.

Imagine my surprise to wake up to almost another full page of soap talk. What did my Michael Damian story unleash?

So yeah simey, Jill was completely awful. On the other hand, Mrs. Chancellor did insist that Esther wear that little maid outfit to clean her house, so that didn't really age well either.

My mom used to always say she wished we had Esther. My teen-boy self agreed for a completely different reason.

I'm (not-so-)silently judging you people who watched The Young and the Restless.

Everyone know General Hospital was where it's at.
:penalty: In high school I got home in time to watch Guiding Light. My misguided friends watched GH.
Was talking to my wife about Y&R last night but she was more of a Guiding Light girl. She even pulled up a couple youtube clips to see if LuJack, Fletcher Reed, and Reva's sister Roxy were as hot as she remembered.

And forget this Easy Money stuff.

Give me this instead.

This is not ironic. This song is awesome.

Love during the break when the drummer slips in a few bars of "When The Levee Breaks" then transitions right into a few beats of "Be My Baby".

Probably well-known with this crew: The story of how Ronnie Spector was doing dishes while Eddie Money was on the phone trying to talk her back into the business to do this one song.

Money would later say, "I didn't care for the demo [but] it did have a good catch line. When I heard [a snippet of] 'Be My Baby' in it I said: 'Why can't we get Ronnie Spector to sing it?'" The reply was, "That's impossible." Money invited his friend Martha Davis, lead vocalist of The Motels, to rerecord the lines from "Be My Baby" for "Take Me Home Tonight". However, Davis encouraged him to try to recruit Spector herself. Money was eventually able to reach Spector by phone at her home in northern California. Recalled Money, "I could hear clinking and clanking in the background ... She said: 'I'm doing the dishes, and I gotta change the kids' bedding. I'm not really in the business anymore, Eddie. Phil Spector and all that, it was a nightmare' ... I said 'Ronnie, I got this song that's truly amazing and it's a tribute to you. It would be so great if you ... did it with me.'"

Misguided, indeed, with role models like Reva Shayne. She was married to old man H.B. Lewis, then later to both of H.B.'s sons Billy and Josh. Can't remember if she had kids with any of them. If so, holiday gatherings must've been really confusing.

"I've been wanting to bring you home to meet the family for so long ... OK ... this is my uncle/step-dad/grandpa. Yes, all at once. Hey ... where are you going! Come back!"

(Ted Logan: "Been there, man - bogus.")

EDIT: Oh -- and I remember Lujack, too :bag:

I have nothing to add either in the way of the dailies or Dad jokes. I do remember Lujack, though. That sounds awfully familiar. And Victor from Y & R, IIRC.

Victor was a Selleck-looking cat, right?

I did watch when James Franco guest starred in a soap. It was probably the worst thing I'd seen in a long time. He was trying to be meta about his stardom and it just messed up whatever plot they had going on. Franco, for all his studying of lit at Columbia, really isn't as bright as he thinks he is. He's the intellectual of the Rogen crew, which means about as much as the lint I have in my pockets at the casino right now.

This soap business is cold, hard cash, baby, and you're giving me Francos and meta ****? Nah.

Eric Braeden (real name is Hans Gudegast)

JJ Astor in Titanic. He's good in Colossus: The Forbin Project too.

Was approached by Cubby Broccoli to play James Bond after Broccoli had seen him in Colossus: The Forbin Project, but after realizing Braeden was German and not British, Broccoli changed his mind.

Didn't know anything about Stamos and The Beach Boys. Looks like I had good taste in my teenage crushes!
In the Kokomo video I mentioned earlier, you can see him in the background at the 1:05 mark playing percussion (and probably appears a few other times).

ETA: just scrolled through the video - yeah he appears quite a bit

It’s actually raining here in Southern California. This has dampened my plans to hit the casino down the street (yes, I’m literally blocks away from a pretty big casino in SoCal). It’s The Year Of The Dragon and they have a big red and yellow dragon outside with Chinese lettering and everything because the clientele is largely Asian. Everything in the penny slot section revolves around the number eight, which is culturally significant for some reason.

So anyway, I’m bored and have forty bucks in my pocket and want to see if I can’t run that into anything bigger. Because I’m bored, that is.

Dispatches from me. Everybody knows this is nowhere. Might as well make more coffee.

Maybe being up since five and having that third cup of coffee to go with my Dextroamphetamine is too much stimulation. Better back up and see if want my logorrhea here to be documented and verified. Hmm. . . nope. Don’t care a lick.

Pineapple Express, Atmospheric Rivers. Sounds like it's going to be just like last year. I'm going to batten down the hatches.

****. I don’t even remember last year. Did it rain a lot? Yeah, I’m clueless but at least I’m old.

you've become a true southern californian. yeah man, we had record rainfall. wiped out a decade long drought in a month. now there's concern that reservoirs are going to overfill.

Oh my. That’s not good. I’d imagine the IE reservoirs are still down, though. Maybe? I haven’t looked into the water situation since I got terrified of it a few years ago. They’re still trying to figure out the Colorado River at the fed level, aren’t they?

I’ll never forget my friend’s mother wondering why I kept singing the Carolina song one day. He didn’t have the heart . . . then he finally broke down and told her. That was an awkward stay.

Yeah. I haven't paid attention since summer because I swear there's just a bunch of politics and fear-mongering going on. Last I read Cali was getting its usual allocation* but other states were getting cut. A deal was a long way off though.

*The Colorado flows into Mexico across the Cali border in the Imperial Valley. Of course we use that to farm the hell out of that desert. The option is to send it to Mexico or tidy up the infrastructure at huge expense and years of construction. I've never for a minute worried about Cali's water supply. Always felt like fear-mongering to me.

Anyway... Do you know why the bowl of tortilla chips started dancing? The waiter put on the salsa.

You’ll see that I’ve added a few items for the posts:

  • I’ve noted if a song is not on the playlist so that you can be sure to click the link if desired.
  • I’ve added data about how many times the song, original artist, and covering artist have been selected, and how many songs each has in the category. Note that the numbers related only to the artist’s selections as either coverer or coveree, not the aggregate of both. That is, some artists such as the Grateful Dead have already been selected both as coverer and coveree, so when they come up the listed number only relates to whichever category they’re in for that particular song.
  • Also remember the data reflect only the top 31 lists, not any Lasts Fives Outs.
