Boy is this an interesting round. Some very famous covers.rockaction:
Where Did You Sleep Last Night – Nirvana (traditional aka “In the Pines” – first known recording by “Dock” Walsh)
These are the two "heavy hitters" that I expected to get a lot of votes. Of course, Nirvana has another cover that fits that bill, too. We'll see how it shakes out!
Also, our Deja Vote today is none other than the Travis cover of Britney Spears's "Baby One More Time"! It almost didn't happen when I accidentally got the order wrong for titus. He could have owned this song outright, but now he has to share ownership with scorchy.![]()
Mrs. Rannous:
Kiss - Tom Jones and Art Of Noise (Prince)
Song: two votes – Tom Jones and the Art of Noise (2)
Cover artist: two votes each – Kiss (2)
Original artist: five votes – Kiss (2); Nothing Compares 2 U (1); When U Were Mine (1); Purple Rain (1)
Special shout out to these two covers. This playlist has about 20 that are worthy of lengthy discussion.Raging weasel:

Wouldn't take much to convince me that this is the greatest performance in music history. I have one or two others I'd put against it, but don't think I could sell them enough to override this one. The arrangement and production are as good as it gets. The singing's pretty good, too. THIS is what a record should sound like.Uruk-Hai:
I Heard It Through the Grapevine - Marvin Gaye (Gladys Knight & The Pips)
Song: three votes – Marvin Gaye (2); Creedence Clearwater Revival (1)
Cover artist: three votes – I Heard It Through the Grapevine (2); Yesterday (1)

I prefer the original, but this is the first time I've found Korn to be pretty good.Special shout out to these two covers. This playlist has about 20 that are worthy of lengthy discussion.
Yeah, I'm very intrigued by the Korn cover of Cameo.

And you beat me to "Kiss" by one day, you varlet. I prefer Tom's version. I find Prince's relentless falsetto is just too much. And since Tom can really sell Sexytime, I'll groove with him.Boy is this an interesting round. Some very famous covers.rockaction:

That Travis cover is so weird. While living in the UK i bought a CD single of theirs and it has this as one of the B Sides. Never thought it would pop up here

14. The Loco Motion - Grand Funk Railroad (Little Eva)
I don't know what exactly to say about this cover; I just like it.
I will add, though, that until I looked up information about the song itself, I didn't know that Little Eva wasn't the artist the song was written for, and in fact, Little Eva was the actual songwriter's (Carole King) babysitter. The intended singer, Dee Dee Sharp, turned it down, giving Eva the chance. But I'm sure most if not all of you dummies probably already knew that.

I really used to like Prince’s early guitarist Dez Dickerson. Kind of disappeared after the 1999 album. It's a shame, really. I love Prince's guitarist.
I gotta say the Prince version. I adore the falsetto. And you beat me to "Kiss" by one day, you varlet. I prefer Tom's version. I find Prince's relentless falsetto is just too much. Korn have a LOT of detractors.Special shout out to these two covers. This playlist has about 20 that are worthy of lengthy discussion.
Yeah, I'm very intrigued by the Korn cover of Cameo.
Same. That’s why I chose this one.- Via Chicago - Top 5 favorite Wilco song, and I love the voices of Johanna Samuels and Ohtis singing the tune
The best they can is good enough.Y'all can stop hating on DMB. I just brought Hanson into the mix.
Come As You Are/Kids/You Spin Me Round mashup - Umphrey's McGee (Nirvana/MGMT/Dead or Alive) NOT ON PLAYLIST
I remember seeing an interview with Neil Young some years ago, and he was talking about how everyone borrows from others in music at some point, including himself as a borrower. That's pretty darn vague. For sure - many artists unashamedly admit lifting from others. An example of a song that gave birth to others is "Too Much Monkey Business" by Chuck Berrry. Bob Dylan borrowed some of it for "Subterranean Homesick Blues." Elvis Costello borrowed some of that for "Pump it Up." Bono borrowed some of that for "Get On Your Boots." Songs get recycled in some fashion all the time.
The link I had was a YouTube link (which I don't click on nor use), not Spotify, and that mash-up title isn't close to the way the song is listed. It is hard to find Come As You Are/Kids/You Spin Me Round when it's actually Come as Your Kids.Come As You Are/Kids/You Spin Me Round mashup - Umphrey's McGee (Nirvana/MGMT/Dead or Alive) NOT ON PLAYLIST

Or save them for another of these later. I already have a list. And no one has picked those songs yet.I'm sure this has happened to others but Spotify played a song for me yesterday that should have been on my list. I'll have to remember it for when we have the inevitable free for all posting as soon as all lists are revealed.

I just figured out the issue. shuke initially sent me a list with all Youtube links, which is the one I saved. But later he sent me the Spotify links, and I neglected to override the Youtube with those. I'll do better in the future!
I think my opinion of the way Wenner wrongly shaped what people think of as rock history is well-known here, so I'll not bore you guys with it anymore. The Loco-Motion - Grand Funk (Little Eva) -- Big, dumb fun. Bonus points because the Wenner-ites hate it.
That makes sense @krista4, however, the bigger problem is that the title doesn't match what's anywhere. Going back and looking at the YouTube link, it's listed as Come as your kids, not the longer mash-up title. This isn't the first time the title or artists are listed incorrectly and it makes it a challenge at times to get them added into the lists. The link I had was a YouTube link (which I don't click on nor use), not Spotify, and that mash-up title isn't close to the way the song is listed. Oh, I thought it was because of the formatting of the list I sent. For the few that have been missed, the spotify link was on the next line due to length of song title.

My bad. Umphrey's has taken the liberty to make up their own names for their mashups. But the spotify links I sent are to those songs. I'll send to you directly for what's left.
@krista4, since you are posting some tracking for song, cover artist, and original artist, it would be interesting to have occasional "standings" posts showing the leaders in each category. Do you have your data organized in a way that makes that easy? I know one could pull it by looking back through all of the round posts, but that would take some time.
