Sorry if honda but didn't see it posted.

The Most Conservative and Liberal Cities In Each State according to an article on blaze.com.

Also, what do you think of the questions asked to determine the level of Conservative or Liberal leanings?

I identify with the Democrats more so than the Republicans.

Abortion should be legal and accessible to all women.

I attend religious services regularly.

Climate change is an immediate concern that must be addressed.

There should be more restrictions on purchasing and carrying guns.

The government should reduce the deficit primarily by raising taxes rather than cutting services.

I prefer urban areas.

As Business Insider notes, “the questions about urban areas and church attendance were not included in the score used to indicate whether a community was liberal or conservative.”

Looks like most of the liberal towns are large cities, and all the conservative ones are little podunk towns no one's ever heard of. Not sure what that means.

Chama, CO over Boulder - I'm sorry but maybe the 63 people that live in Chama are way out there but I've never heard about it.The true answer is Boulder

Would be more interesting if they had a size threshold. Mount Cory, Ohio has a population of 204.

Unfortunately, I work in Ann Arbor, MI and I can vouch for the fact that this city is a hippie-laden, homeless-lovin', liberal freak show college town of the highest order.

The idea that Wichita is more liberal than Lawrence is a joke.

How conservative of a state is Utah if the most liberal town is SLC?

I thought the same about Iowa City and Des Moines. But then I thought, liberal college kids are probably too busy smoking weed, reading Vonnegut, and having unprotected sex to have time for some political dork's survey.

Whereas the Ron Paul nutjobs can't shut up about politics at an orgy. That I have to assume they wandered into by accident, because who invited these squares?

I grew up in Shaker Hts., OH and bought my first house there (moved about 11 yrs ago). Quite frankly, I am shocked by this city being labeled the MOST liberal city in Ohio. Growing up there, it always seemed more conservative to me. Over the years, the demographics have changed. The fact that it may now lean liberal does not surprise me, but I find it difficult to believe it has swung that far as to be the most liberal in the whole state. I am seriously questioning the validity of that set of questions and/or the data set collected.

Does church attendance really indicate whether someone is liberal or conservative? I know plenty of pretty religious liberals, and even more conservatives who have no religion at all.

I'm having a hard time believing this survey had a large enough sample size to produce reliable city level data.

correction, I know very few of the former, and none of the latter

I know a lot of "Democrats" who always vote for the people who have a D next to their name but have been brainwashed by the church to also vote against things like gay marriage, abortion, and such. It's usually old people who are like this.

I find it hard to believe that Greensboro is more liberal than Asheville. Or even Charlotte for that matter. I have no idea what a Bakersville is.

The note says church attendance and urban preference weren't used.

Surprised by that one as well, but I'm guessing there are some wacky backwoods parts of Asheville full of crackpot conservatives who spoil the lot.

McBain, MI is the most conservative? I guess we now define cities as any population center over 500.

IME Grand Rapids or Holland would be the obvious choices.

I just think they did a really crappy job collecting data. It seems like they just took raw numbers and did nothing to make them have context.

I sure do. Most of my immediate family consists of politically liberal churchgoers, except for one sister who is ultra conservative (tea party type). I am the black sheep of the family being a conservative atheist.

Like I said, hard to believe they had a large enough sample size to produce reliable city data. There are 20k to 30k "cities" in the US, depending on how you define a city.

If Accident, MD tiptoed quietly west for four miles into West Virginia it would be decades before the rest of us noticed.

Maryland has pretty typical demographics, the rural western and eastern parts are pretty conservative and the heavily populated counties closest to Baltimore and DC are pretty liberal.

The People's Republic of Takoma Park, Maryland is a subsidiary of the People's Republic of Montgomery County, Maryland, and is an absolute freak show. I've never seen a city where there exist so many children masquerading as adults, who could pull out a resume with multiple pages of educational degrees and minutia, that's as worthless as a hill of beans when confronted with solving real world issues in a sensible, workable way.

I'm born and raised in Montgomery County, going on 46 years. One of the wealthiest counties in the Nation. Tremendously high cost of living. My parents were able to afford it, and I'm doing fine. Growing up, I thought it was an awesome place to live, and it still has some worthy appointments. Growing wiser, couldn't be further from my idea of ideal. I'm a fiscal conservative and small businessman. What it's morphed into over the past 20 years or so is very likely one of the most unfriendly environments for either of those dispositions in the country. I might as well be an alien from outer space, and if I was an illegal alien from south of the border, I might get treated better in the public square than I do now. I choose not to mix it up in the political threads here, but believe me, I was raised to thoughtfully choose my positions, and defend them with facts and logic, and defend them, I can. Believe it or not, it's professionally dangerous for me to speak my political mind in social and business circles here. Seriously. Overwhelming number of 'limousine liberals', long on educational degrees, woefully short on common sense endowed with a blissful ignorance of our state and nation's financial reality, and without a clue, or a care as to what's going on in the real nation outside their Beltway Bubble. Overwhelmingly self-centered and self-absorbed to the point where an act of politeness or courtesy can be greeted with surprise, and sometimes shock, whereas rudeness and inconsiderate behavior sometimes seems par for the course. Materialistic to a fault - more concerned about comparing their material possessions with those of their neighbors (especially when it comes to their children's education, activities and achievements) than the kind of adults their own actions are leading their children to be, by example, down an ugly path, into some truly horrible adults.

My parents bought their house with cash, $35K in 1967. Homes in that community are selling for almost 20 times that now. I'm an only child, and the primary caregiver for my Mom, who's 86, still reasonably healthy and living at home. Has long-term care insurance but has no desire whatsoever to move into an assisted living community, nor would I want her to while I'm perfectly capable of handling any of her current needs. I hope and pray that she lives forever, but one thing's for sure as the day is long: in the unfortunate event that she passes, that home is going on the market, and financially rocketing me the heck out of here. I'll be moving somewhere much, much redder than where I live now.

That's the home I was born and raised in, and at one time I thought I'd raise a family and grow old in myself, but now find myself a minority, and a discriminated minority at that.

Makes me very, very sad.

Try being an atheist in the Bible Belt sometime.

But I won't be running away.

Whenever people call things "The People's Republic of" something, I know for certain their opinions are well reasoned, thought-out, and intelligent.

Enjoy Alabama or Mississippi or wherever it is you end up. You'll definitely find some like-minded thinkers there, plus, haven't you heard, it's paradise, no problems at all.

Not surprising at all. Greensboro has a much higher black population than Asheville. Given that 90%+ of the black population is liberal, you're probably could just take census numbers and get the same result.

Asheville doesn't have much in the way of a middle class and is very expensive place to live. There a parts of Asheville full of job creating conservatives that support the lazy liberals that save the lot.

If only everyone was as fiscally responsible as your parents and paid cash for their homes in their early 30s.

Joe, you're an intelligent guy and you KNOW how leading those questions are. "Coy" isn't your best look.

Takoma Park, MD is far from the most "liberal" subdivision in Maryland. It's majority black/Hispanic and seriously churchy - yes, they vote D but hate abortion and gay marriage.

And Asheville smokes Greensboro for most liberal town in NC.

It really doesn't, it's just has more to the extremes.

Modern democrats don't have a message that makes rural america want to vote for them. The result is the democrats can almost never hold the House. You cannot hold the House for long without rural america. The House has been republican 16 of the last 20 years. The republicans don't have a message that makes urban America want to vote for them, so they can almost never win national elections like the Presidency. The Presidency will probably be democrat from 1992-2024 with the only exception the Bush years.

We've got gridlock forever. The article Joe posted supports that view. Small towns are republican. Big cities are democrat.

Look up the definition of coy in the dictionary, and you'll see a picture of Joe.

I find it hard to believe that Greensboro is more liberal than Asheville. Or even Charlotte for that matter. I have no idea what a Bakersville is.
Not surprising at all. Greensboro has a much higher black population than Asheville. Given that 90%+ of the black population is liberal, you're probably could just take census numbers and get the same result.
I don't know if they are liberal so much as single issue voters.

Does church attendance really indicate whether someone is liberal or conservative? I know plenty of pretty religious liberals, and even more conservatives who have no religion at all.
I was going to ask this too. WTF? Oh, because liberals are all atheists and conservatives are all bible-thumpers?

Stereotype much?

This is what baffles me about political parties. Why does someone's view on abortion need to line up with their tax policies? What do your thoughts on gun control have to do with climate change? Why does religion even come up in regards to party politics? Most of this country has been brainwashed to think that they need to pick a team. Makes zero sense.
