The Next 100 best movies from the 80's (1 Viewer)

I think this is the turning point in the list. From here on out, all the picks should be fairly appreciated except for a few random ones.

Never seen it. This trailer doesn't make me regret that.

id give it a shot, or at least watch the Swayze vs Randall Tex Cobb fight scene
I had the original at
Some of these movies are really top 200 of the decade? Come on. Top 200 of the decade basically means it's basically a top 20 movie for the year it was released. Change the thread title to "movies I saw and enjoyed" at least. smh.

Great contribution to the thread. Keep it coming.
Let me know when you get to Critters 2.

With the Twilight Zone movie, I just struggle getting over the horrific deaths and that John Landis was probably responsible.

Hey there guy. Harry and the Henderson’s is an Oscar winning movie (look it up) in addition to being a wholesome, hilarious family comedy.

In your heart do you believe Harry and the Mf'n Hendersons was a top 20 movie in 1987?

Howard the Duck and now this...pull it together Scoresman.

You need to go back and read what my criteria is for this thread. It’s somewhere on the first page.

If you think Harry and the Henderson’s was bad wait until you see this one other pick I have coming up.

what now?

Vic Morrow died during filming due to an accident on the set. And some extras I think.
They were filming a scene set in Viet Nam with Morrow and 2 young asian kids when the helicopter in the scene crashed and killed Morrow and the the kids. There was a lawsuit against director John Landis and everything.

Watching the trailer, maybe I should have had this higher. Holy crap it was awesome. And that ending, I can remember watching it for the first time, I can remember exactly where I was, because it was the scariest thing I had ever seen at that point in my life.

Easy inclusion. Doesn't hold up as well as Halloween or Texas CSM for me, but worthy of inclusion.

Not the best of the franchise but yeah it needed inclusion. I think only Sleepaway Camp has a better final scene.

Jennifer Jason Leigh is Vic Morrow's kid to tie all the 80s together.

I referenced their relationship in the other thread, so I already knew this. I think it showed amazing resilience that she stuck with acting after that tragedy, and I think her dad has been smiling on her every film appearance since he left us. I would go so far as to say that one can see his acting style come out in her over the years.

Also, depending on the time in my life when you ask, my top 5 80's* movie list will be different. Now that we are 4 decades since the end of the 80's, I believe my list has probably stabilized. The ones that have remained re-watchable for me since that decade ended are:

5. Real Genius. Love it as much now as I did when it came out.
4. Bull Durham. I believe in the church of baseball.
3. Big Trouble in Little China. I'm not into "martial arts" movies but this just scratches an itch I didn't know I had until this movie came out.
2. The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai: Across the 8th Dimension. Just the right degree of different yet familiar and such an amazing cast caught at that spot in their careers before they really hit.
1. Conan the Barbarian. Most folks look at this and see something they can't quite describe so they fall back on 'cheesy' and move on. What those folks miss, though, is that this movie was a specific kind of dish made of only the best hand-picked ingredients; from the combination of polar opposites like Oliver Stone and John Milius working on the script to ultimate 'he-man' archetype William Smith playing Conan's father, to Sandahl Bergman (a blend of beauty and physical power and grace) to a charismatic and deceptively dangerous Jame Earl Jones and beyond, every.single.actor. in that film was pitch-perfect for their role, and all of them hit their marks with EPIC precision. Maybe you don't like the product, but you can't argue the ingredients nor the execution of same.

*--for me, I subscribe to the reasoning that since there was no year '0', a decade starts with year 1, so movies made in 1980, like Airplane!, don't count. If I thought otherwise, Airplane! would definitely be my #1.

That ending no doubt resonated better with those who saw it before the endless array of sequels came out. I was not so fortuitous

I didn't see this until the late 90's. Just incredible filmmaking from the Coens.

I remember a friend telling me how great this movie was. He described that final scene with the dude under the sink. He was looking up and the camera zooms in on the condensation about to drip off the pipe. It was really something. I've been a Coen brothers fan ever since this movie. I think I saw it right around the time Raising Arizona came out. Totally different, but great nonetheless.

Did no one else even think of this? A masterpiece mix of art, cinema, and sound.
Yea, how did this not make the original list? Also, how is Shuke the only one who ranked this? I think I'd have it about where Shuke does on a COMPLETE list of 80's movies.....maybe a bit higher.....granted, I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan.
Can't rank what I haven't seen.

Get baked and watch it

It’s a ridiculously well-done movie and kind of shocking that it was the first film for the Coens. They were brilliant right out of the gate.

I liked the series, they just all kind of blend together for me so I left it off my list

That's about where I was. I wanted one on my list, but didn't know which. 1, 2, and 4 I guess? I think I prefer 2?

2
1
4
3

It all went rapidly downhill after the first 4.

The first one holds a special place because of that ending….”kill her mommy…kill her!!”

The second one was just fun.

Part 4 was worth it just for the Crispin dance scene.
