I debated including this since I only really like the second half of it, but this movie got me into the original series and that counts for a lot. The memories of watching this and then discovering there was an entire series blew me away.

Hey there guy. Harry and the Henderson’s is an Oscar winning movie (look it up) in addition to being a wholesome, hilarious family comedy.

I didn't learn about the deaths until sometime in the 1990s. By then, I had seen it 30+ times on HBO

Jennifer Jason Leigh is Vic Morrow's kid to tie all the 80s together.

I referenced their relationship in the other thread, so I already knew this. I think it showed amazing resilience that she stuck with acting after that tragedy, and I think her dad has been smiling on her every film appearance since he left us. I would go so far as to say that one can see his acting style come out in her over the years.

Also, depending on the time in my life when you ask, my top 5 80's* movie list will be different. Now that we are 4 decades since the end of the 80's, I believe my list has probably stabilized. The ones that have remained re-watchable for me since that decade ended are:

5. Real Genius. Love it as much now as I did when it came out.
4. Bull Durham. I believe in the church of baseball.
3. Big Trouble in Little China. I'm not into "martial arts" movies but this just scratches an itch I didn't know I had until this movie came out.
2. The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai: Across the 8th Dimension. Just the right degree of different yet familiar and such an amazing cast caught at that spot in their careers before they really hit.
1. Conan the Barbarian. Most folks look at this and see something they can't quite describe so they fall back on 'cheesy' and move on. What those folks miss, though, is that this movie was a specific kind of dish made of only the best hand-picked ingredients; from the combination of polar opposites like Oliver Stone and John Milius working on the script to ultimate 'he-man' archetype William Smith playing Conan's father, to Sandahl Bergman (a blend of beauty and physical power and grace) to a charismatic and deceptively dangerous Jame Earl Jones and beyond, every.single.actor. in that film was pitch-perfect for their role, and all of them hit their marks with EPIC precision. Maybe you don't like the product, but you can't argue the ingredients nor the execution of same.

*--for me, I subscribe to the reasoning that since there was no year '0', a decade starts with year 1, so movies made in 1980, like Airplane!, don't count. If I thought otherwise, Airplane! would definitely be my #1.

That ending no doubt resonated better with those who saw it before the endless array of sequels came out. I was not so fortuitous

I remember a friend telling me how great this movie was. He described that final scene with the dude under the sink. He was looking up and the camera zooms in on the condensation about to drip off the pipe. It was really something. I've been a Coen brothers fan ever since this movie. I think I saw it right around the time Raising Arizona came out. Totally different, but great nonetheless.

It all went rapidly downhill after the first 4.

The first one holds a special place because of that ending….”kill her mommy…kill her!!”

The second one was just fun.

Part 4 was worth it just for the Crispin dance scene.

Another one that has aged….horribly.

And I am a huge 80’s Horror buff….but this was weak. The rewatch ability is extremely low.
