The obligatory Ron Dayne thread (1 Viewer)

T Man

Footballguy
THe Texans ground game was awful. Neither Lundy (32 yards, 2.9 ypc) nor Morency (13 yards, 2.6 ypc) ran with authority. Granted this may have been a combination of the Eagles Defense and the O-line, but the results were lacking.

Having never been a Dayne supporter and knowing that he is still recovering from his turf toe injury, the question must be asked:

Will he be the "Man" in Houston? He was the darling of drafts in the summer, but broke hearts (as always) in the preseason. Can he rebound and take over the starting job in Houston. I don't think so, but the door is opened.

I think the Houston RB situation is a lot like the New York Jets. You can spend a lot of time 'chasing your tail' trying to peg the correct RB when you may be better off handcuffing your stud or handcuffing someone else's stud in case they get injured.

I know I am in the minority opinion here but I think Dayne will be the man in Houston when he gets healed.Gary Kubiak was Offensive Cord. with the Broncos when Dayne was there and likes him a lot.He knows the zone blocking scheme and is someone the head coach trusts.

Ah, so we've gone from the 'Shannahan loves the guy and you know that means guaranteed success' to Kubiak being he of the golden RB blessing.

Coaches dont make running backs good. Nor do blocking schemes or offensive lines. They can help running backs perform better, but they dont unmask their heretofor unknown talent. Instead of wasting another thread, why not just dig up a summer Broncos thread and subsistute the names. The math hasnt changed, except now Dayne is on a lousy team and he has yet another F on his report card. Is Dayne better than Lundy? NO. Is he better than Morency? NO. So will he somehow magically perform well in Houston? Just because those guys performed poorly is not an indicator that Dayne must therefore be better.

no.
