The OFFICIAL 2007 Boston Red Sox Thread (1 Viewer)

good game by dice k, gagne gives up another run & paps puts 2 on in the ninth....nice win though. let's win tomorrow to take the series & then it's off to socal & the angels.

Nice game by Beckett today, continues to be a strong contender for the Cy (assuming Wang does not surpass him  )

Can't wait to see the 'New Schill' tomorrow night

By the way...Sox should get that bat they were seeking within the next couple of days. Won't be Dye caliber, but should be quite serviceable as a #4 OF

Edes on NESN: Strong indicators that the Sox are getting Kielty in the fold in the next day or two.

Lopez sent down for Schill...

Basically he was the guy with options left, so he will go down for a month. Sox pitching staff is pretty ridiculous at the moment...

Beckett/Matsuzaka/Schill/Wake/Lester

Papelbon/Gagne/Oki/DelCarmen/Timlin/Snyder/Tavarez

with a bunch of callups ready (Lopez/Buch/Hansen)

Off the top of my head, right now I like Beckett Eric BedardSabathiaHarenCarmonaEscobarWang is somewhat behind all of the above guys.

HarenSantanaBeckettBedardThat would be my top 45, 6 and 7 would probably be Dice-K, Papelbon and Oki.

nice series win! let's take game 1 against the angels & let the other 2 sort themselves out. it's schilling, wake, lester over these 3 games?

yepAs has been the case, just need to keep winning series

Kielty signed...

Kielty has a career record of 286/343/460, OPS+ of 110, as a PH, and about 820 OPS against LHP. He is not the Dye signing I wanted, but he will do

--------------------------------

The Red Sox have signed outfielder Bobby Kielty to a minor league deal. He is expected to report to Pawtucket to join the PawSox on Wednesday.

The plan is to get him some at-bats with the hopes he can join the Red Sox once he shows he's ready to play.

So, this makes WMP redundant / useless...not sure what they will do with him. Cut bait? He won't clear waivers, so that is not an option. I can't see them letting Hinske go.

He has had an incredible year. Just don't see how you don't give it to Haren though. Lower ERA, lower WHIP, better ERA+. Bedard has him in strikeouts, by a healthy margin...not sure that should be enough to give him the award though. :lmao:

Didn't see last night's game. When Manny got tossed, was it warranted or was the ump a bit overzealous?

warrantedManny had to know he was getting tossed. As for his argument, he had a strong case, but you gotta keep your head

last night was one of those nights where on paper you win, reality you lose. 8 hits, 4 walks, 3 stolen bases, a HR, and you only have 2 runs to show for it? On the flip side, Schilling fell asleep not convering 1st on an easy DP ball (cost them at least 1 run), Moss bobbling a fly ball (cost them 1 run), Moss throwing to the wrong base (cost them a base, subsequently a run), and then Manny getting tossed early, so that instead of him hitting in big spots it was a rookie playing his first MLB game.

I say chalk it up to one of those games...win tonight, and move on

he had a case, but you don't argue balls & strikes. on the ball moss bobbled, the angel runner clearly left the bag before the ball was caught. he went right when the ball hit his glove, but it was subsequently bobbled, there were more questionable calls, but that's baseball. move on & get the win tonight.

he can leave once the ball touches the glove, to discourage someone intentionally doing what Moss did

well ####. consider my ####### puckered. i went to the gane tonight & the only possitive i have id that we were representing about 40^% of the stadium. little good that did us. timely hits by the halo's & loweel being thrown out at home was awful. never make the first out at home! good thing i was able to get hoxxammered in the diamond club.

more sensical posting tommorrow. out

It took a perfect relay to get him. He is probably safe 9 times out of 10.And they lost 10-4. Losing one run didn't make a damn difference.

you never make the first out at home. 2nd & 3rd no outs is a lot different situation, who knows what happens. it was a great play, what can you do.love the win tonight. i thought the team showed a lot of fight & really stuck it out. #### that angel team can hit. we get them for 4 more later in the month. should be some more great baseball.

Gotta love the 1-2-3 punch we have:

I stayed up for Oki's inning+, then at 1 finally had to go to bed. Oki looked awesome as usual. I am now very torn between who should be ROY....him or Pedroia. I think I lean Pedroia due to him being more of a 'true' rookie...both have been dominant this year

Only watched one inning last night, then caught the highlights this morning on NESN. I didn't have a whole lot of hope with the lineup they rolled out last night. Tito really dodged one. If they had lost he would have been crucified for giving Coco the night off despite Ortiz being out of the lineup unexpectadly. Winning with Moss and Pena as the corner outfielders and Drew in center is close to miraculous. Finally some timely hitting, great win for the Sox going into Baltimore.

Oh, and so much for a 2nd half swoon for Lowell.

this is a very good point. that lineup last night was freaky.

Moss got his first hit, and it was a big one...glad to see him do that before he is sent back down...I would say Lester started his last game this year for the club. He isn't ready...maybe it is the cancer recovery, maybe not, but he needs more time to get a more consistent delivery and find the strike zone better

Who do you think they bring up? The obvious choice is and the one I'd love to see is Buchholz, but isn't he on a strict total inning limit for the year (like 140 or sometehing)? If they threw him in the rotation now he'd exceed it by mid-sept.

I think it will be Buch...not a lot of other options...Hansack being the only other one I can really think of. Especially with the DoubleHeader coming up, it will be tricky. I think that will be Buch's first start (hope so, I have tickets to the day game). That still leaves them a 5th starter short for next week...Edit to add:OK, looks like they need a starter vs. Tampa next week. It pretty much has to be Lester or Tavarez, so I imagine Lester will get the call. Then, in the doubkleheader against LAA, I am convinced Buch makes his MLB debut. Then, depending upon the result of both of their starts, I imagine Theo makes a call on who should start the next game between the two of them

Dice-K - 38

Guthrie - 35

Oki - 31

Pedroia - 29

Harris - 23

Harris has no shot at the ROY, so it is between the others. Realistically I don't think they give it to Oki (though he has been THE most valuable [by VORP] AL Reliever this year), simply because he is a setup man. I don't think anyone can really argue Guthrie has been better then Dice-K, so I would cross him out. That leaves Matsuzaka and Pedroia. If people want to penalize Dice-K because he was an ace in Japan, then Pedroia should get the nod. I personally can see the case for both of them, but I give it to Pedroia.

Yeah let's not give it to the guy who has less hits, runs, earned runs, walks, a better ERA, better WHip and higher winning % than Dice-K. Things might change.....but to say that Dice-K is unarguably better than Jeremy Guthrie is the height of homerism.

Guthrie has a lower ERA, WHIP, and BAA than DiceK stat geek.

lol at stat geek...nice one! 7IP 1 run tonight...

He has pitched more innings, has twice as many wins, almost twice as many strikeouts, and has done so under the Boston spotlight. Guthrie has a definite right to be considered, but I would be surprised if he gets half as many votes as Dice-K. Do you really consider him to be a better pitcher? I don't think there is much question which has been more valuable for their team. Christ, people have been saying they like Bedard as the Cy, and Matsuzaka outdueled him on the road tonight

When Matzu left the game after the 7th it was 1-0 Orioles. Stat line is identical besides er, 1 of which was scored with Bedard on the mound in the 8th, and 2 runners that he was responsible for. I wouldn't call that "outdueld" and with the amount of ####### red sox fans in attendance, I wouldn't call it a road game either. :ptts:Great game to watch and should make for a nice weekend series.
