The Official Kicker (K) Thread (4 Viewers)

Anyone getting nervous about Butker for Thursday night ? I cannot fathom keeping two kickers--in week 2 no less, but if he is ruled out on Thursday then I will take a 0 from my kicker this week (if I don't make a move by Wednesday night).

Harrison Butker (ankle) did not participate in Tuesday's practice.

Butker made a 54-yard field goal after sustaining the injury in the first quarter against the Cardinals, but S Justin Reid handled some of the kickoffs and extra points. Back-to-back missed practices put him firmly in questionable territory even if he did successfully play on the injury on Sunday. The Chiefs added Matt Ammendola to their practice squad, an indication Butker could miss Thursday.

That sucks most leagues can wait until kickoff, that's what I'm planning on doing. Tough call if have to make by Wednesday night.
Mine used to be like that, but if I don't do it when waivers run overnight Wednesday i will get skunked. Do I dare carry 2 kickers ? Is Butker worth it ???

Is anyone giving up on McPherson after week 1?

- he nailed a 59 yd FG on the opening second drive so he still has the leg and accuracy
- Burrow turned it over 5 times reducing opportunities, this was likely due to Burrow missing most of the preseason and being rusty (and TJ Watt), shouldn't happen again
- Cincy lost their LS for the year with a torn bicep, replacement is rookie LS from practice squad who was best LS in the draft and one of the best in country while at Pitt
- Burrow and the offense appear to have picked up where they left off last season, minus the rust and turnovers
- 3 missed kicks: 1 was awful high snap on FG in OT, 1 was blocked FG, 1 was blocked XP; none were directly his fault but could indicate ST issues that might persist, or might get sorted in practice

There are some hot kickers on the wire as always, and it is tempting to make a strong bid for York. I still think McPherson can have a top 5 season but I was 0/all on my predictions for wk 1

What is the Shark Pool's opinion on McPherson, buy/sell/hold?

McPherson was solid last year but don't fall in love with a K bc of what they did a year ago. Move on, they're often up one year, down the next, then up again.

Young Koo was a fantastic K in 2020. 37/39 FGs, 8 FG40-49 + 8 FG50+. K2 in 2020, K18 in 2021.
Jason Sanders was even better: 36/39, 12 FG40-49 + 8 FG50+. K1 in 2020, K22 in 2021.

buy
he's on a HOF kicker trajectory

Butker is middle of the pack. Tied to a good offense but is going to have a couple of games where he only gets you 4 PAT's and no FGs, that's the risk with a guy that's on a good offense.
I've got Butker in my dynasty league and in the same boat as you, daily FAAB waivers run at 11 AM. But I have no plans on carrying two kickers, so if Butker can't go Thursday I'll just bench him, then drop him for another K before Sunday. You're not "stuck with a 0" if he is ruled out as long as you take him out of your starting lineup...

What are thoughts on Greg Joseph? He was 6th last year and seems to be not getting a lot of backing this year. Thinking of dropping Blankenship for him instead of York.
Good offense that can score a lot of points...but also one that struggles just enough to give him plenty of FG opportunities.
Plus at least half of their games in a dome. Id roll with Joseph.

Go by the offense... not the kicker.
Tell that to Rodrigo Blankenship :P
No kidding... a certain competence by the K is assumed. If you think the kicker stinks, disregard rule #1. :bag:

Although if you think about it, rule #1 still applies because it wasn't about owning Blankenship, it was about the Colts offense. So you go get his replacement (depending on your other choices, of course... and your belief in the new K's competence).

Chiefs ruled out Harrison Butker (ankle) for Week 2 against the Chargers.

Butker suffered the injury in Kansas City's Week 1 demolition of the Cardinals. Safety Justin Reid was forced to take over kicking duties after Butker went down. Matt Ammendola was signed to the Chiefs' practice squad earlier this week. He will be called up for the team's Thursday outing with the Chargers. Kicking for the league's best offense, Ammendola is a strong streaming option for fantasy purposes.

Just put in a waiver for Hopkins since he also goes Thursday. Would probably go with Succop or Lutz otherwise.

Edit: oops, this is Re: Butker ruled out. Meant to quote Faust above.

All i do is stream kickers and D/ st anyways , so its not a big issue for me while drafting

McPherson is still a buy. The issues last week were the long snapper got injured and was replaced by the backup tight end Wilcox. Wilcox in turn was replaced on the left end of the kicking formation by Drew Sample who blew the blocking assignment on the blocked extra point. The replacement for Harris is already on the team - Cal Adomitis an excellent young long snapper and heir apparent that they have had on their practice squad since last year and who barely lost our to Harris this year in camp. Money Mac will be fine.

Adomitis is a good pickup in dynasty long snapper leagues. Harris may come back from IR late in the year if he can recover fast enough and if the Bengals still have the IR return to spare.

Side note the AFC North is now ridiculously stacked at kicker - 4 top options there now and for the next few years.

IF any current kicker gets inducted into The Hall, it is probably Tucker. Only 4 are in and only 2 were just kickers.
Tucker is definitely getting in. Robbie Gould is maybe but probably not with only 4 in total. I was exaggerating to make my point that McPherson is an ideal dynasty and redraft kicker to have. Never drop him.

LOL. The year I take a kicker NOT in the last round...this.

Debating Gould who should have serious game script in home opener against SEA. Could also potentially see some redzone inefficiency if Lance has some troubles.

Surprised nobody is talking about M. Crosby. GB is going to crucify CHI after last week.

J. Elliott possibly on Monday night although that could be a high scorer were both teams going for TDs. Biased towards this option because I'd have to drop K. Gainwell for him. Could punt the kicker entirely and hold onto Gainwell if I'm getting crushed come Monday night.

Obviously depends on roster sizes, etc, but is Butker worth holding onto? Reluctant to drop him think he can be top 5 kicker but will have to drop somewhat decent bench player

Same boat. Picked up McManus for this week but I'd have to drop one of Da Pierce, R. Stevenson, Julio, Samuel, or De Hopkins

Dropped Butker just know. Just don’t have anyone else worthy of the drop - rather roll the dice on weekly kickers than loose out on a potential starting RB or Flex WR.

That said.

Who ya’lls got for a steam this week? Been staring at Younghoo (nervous about the rams eating his leg off). Also the young kid Cade York. Lots available. Gould, Boswell, Hopkins …

Sounds like Koo here as well - seemingly an offense that WILL move the ball, but without a true RB may struggle in the red area. Plus, dome. Proven track record as well.

I think I just talked myself into him this week

Colts elevated K Chase McLaughlin from the practice squad.

He will kick Sunday against the Jags with the Colts operating as three-point road favorites in a 45-totaled affair. After starting for the Browns in 2021, McLaughlin was eventually released after the team drafted Cade York out of LSU in the 2022 draft. He then lost the preseason kicker battle in Indianapolis to recently released kicker Rodrigo Blankenship but gets a fresh start with the recent transaction. McLaughlin struggled in 2021 with the Browns, missing 6-of-10 field goal attempts between 40-49 yards. Consider McLaughlin nothing more than a low end streaming option in deep leagues that still include kickers.

I’m all in on Cade York in CLE. Kid’s got a huge leg, the Browns have a mediocre but productive offense with Brissett at the helm, and they don’t seem to hesitate to run him out to kick from 60 yards or less.

They may even try something crazy longer this year - he was allegedly/reportedly making them from 60+ with ease in warmups last week.

I’m sure he’s been talked about in here, but he’s gonna be a gold mine from an inconsistent position.

Snagged him in redraft, and overpaid $180/1000 for him in a must start 1 K 16-team league and I’m ok with it.

Love this kid.

Still hate K

I may jump off the York train. Missed PAT are -1 so only K20 yesterday.

Boswell, Fairbarn, and Yoo seem like better options. Crosby, Lutz, Maher, Patterson, and Sanders also out there.

IIRC McPherson had some bad weeks the first half of his rookie season then really hit his stride. But he was on a much better offense.

Cleveland did sustain a lot of long drives yesterday, their run game is as good as we expected it to be.

Reviving the streaming kicker...

Butker sits out there as a FA. Watching his status and ready to pounce. Noncommittal in KC at the moment with the ankle. Kickers can use good ankles.

In one league I shifted to McManus, but gotta stream elsewhere until the Broncos and Russ start to cook. Start Carlson in another league.

Looking at Lutz, Hopkins, and big leg York after Butker.

With the uptick in 2pt conversions and teams going for it more on 4th down, it makes choosing a bit more complicated. Just being a high scoring offense isn't good enough, as evidenced by Harrison Butker the last 2 years. He is one of only four kickers to have over 100 EP attempts the last 2 years, but has finishes of K11 and K15. Meanwhile, Daniel Carlson has back-to-back K1 finishes on 80 EP attempts.

Good points, we want risk adverse coaches matched up with kickers.

Ditto on pouncing on Butker. I drafted him and dropped him. Still sitting there.

Plan B and C are Hopkins and Elliott respectively. D would be the KC backup kicker who I can't spell.

anyone have a take on Rielly Patterson JAX? 7/8 FG's....Jags offence is moving the ball and he's coming out kicking a lot of 25-35 yrd gimme's.

Joseph is killing me.

Smart play is to probably stay the course-- I will probably roll the dice with somebody else this week

Succop, Patterson are the most intriguing to me

Seibert not seen at practice today. Could be Eberle kicking this weekend. He's been on half a dozen teams' practice squads over many years but only ever kicked in one game I think.

Siebert OUT. Eberle is the guy this week for the Lions.

I dropped Joseph for Patterson, so that means you are getting mad points this weekend from Joseph and Patterson is putting up a goose egg (sorry everyone else)

Had enough of Philly's red zone efficiency so dropped Elliott for Gano, figure Giants will move the ball but stall plenty in the red zone...maybe :ponder:

FBG's have Eberle as the #1 kicker this week in their latest email rankings. Wow! Who is this guy? Yes, the Lions plan on putting up yardage and points, but a stall to an unknown kicker as #1 ranking, With Butker likely out my choices are now York or Eberle.

Edit: It appears that Eberle is a one-week play. Who knows in the kicking world. A good outing might keep him around. He has bounced around and was perfect on XP's at Utah State.
