and here are the final 5...
SF - Robbie Gould
Currently the oldest kicker in the NFL, Robbie is the 7th most accurate FG kicker at 86.6%. Although those numbers do sound impressive, they kind of lose their luster when you realize he's only attempted 49 kicks from 50+ in his 249 game career. To put it in perspective, Brandon McManus has 10 more attempts from 50+, and he is almost a decade younger. No other kickers are currently on the roster, so the job is his by default at the moment. One thing to consider before drafting Robbie - he has missed time in each of the last 3 years. Wow, my writeup on Robbie sounds negative, huh?
SEA - Jason Myers
The 7-year NFL veteran is the sole Seahawks kicker as of this post. Since joining SEA in 2019, he is one of only 3 kickers with at least 40 EP attempts in each of the last 3 seasons (Butker & Crosby). With Russell Wilson out of the picture, Myers will likely have to increase his FG output to remain fantasy relevant. He has yet to have 30 FG attempts as a Seahawk, so I find it a tough task for Myers to put up big numbers. He will be a hard pass for me during my draft.
TB - Ryan Succop
I am just gonna say it - Ryan Succop is not good. He is entering year 14, and has a career long of 54. With such a noodle leg and only 11.5% of his FG attempts being from 50+, one would assume his career FG percentage would be impressive. Well, at 83.0%, it's not. Prior to joining the Bucs in 2020, he had a total of 1 fantasy-worthy season out of 11, and that was only K9. His next highest was K15 as a rookie in 2009. Ryan's 116 EP attempts over the last 2 seasons is tops in the league. Jose Borregales, signed by TB in 2021 after going undrafted, is still in town. Jose will instantly fly up the boards if he wins the battle.
TEN - Randy Bullock
Wanna see something weird? Just compare the lifetime stats of Bullock and Succop. They are basically the same guy. FG%'s are 83.0/83.3, 50+ FG%'s are 50.0/52.5, and EP%'s are 95.2/96.1. Bullock's fantasy finishes are 9, 16, 16, 19, 22, 25, 26, 28, and 35. Succop's first 9 finishes are 9, 15, 16, 19, 21, 22, 28, 29, and 30. Bullock's only fantasy-worthy season was K9 in his 8th year; Succop's only fantasy-worthy season out of his first 9 was K9 in his 9th year. Caleb Shudak will be pushing Bullock, and whoever wins the battle will be at the mercy of Derrick Henry.
WAS - Joey Slye
Joey is the only kicker left on Washington's roster. He has ties to Ron Rivera in Carolina, and I fully expect him to be the guy unless he stinks it up. Is it just me, or does it seem like Joey's been in the league for 10 years? He is known for his leg strength, but with a long of 56, many others have him beat. I actually think he is an above average kicker, and the numbers back me up. 22.6% of his lifetime attempts have been from 50+, and only 2 kickers vying for starting positions in 2022 are higher (McPherson and McManus). All that said, I have no intention of drafting the WAS kicker.
Hopefully others will update as time goes on.
