The Official Kicker (K) Thread (1 Viewer)

Need to keep an eye on this thread....Didn't draft a kicker so I'm going to be playing the WW this year. It worked well for me last year, so fingers crossed. Moody is someone I have my eye on. My league drafts kickers based on "what did you do for me last year". So Moody is prime picking on the WW.

Better make sure he is healthy and active before you pick up Moody for week 1. Strained his quad in practice a week or 2 ago. Latest news had him kicking on the side field the last couple days and despite adding a FA K to the practice squad the Niners are holding out that he plays. Odds look better than they did a few days ago... but still not a lock.

Does anyone have any info on the Dallas kicker Brandon Aubry or the Saints kicker Blake Grupey? Who would be the better pickup?

Re: Jake Moody

What I would be concerned about, apart from the quad injury, is the fact that the hit rate for kickers drafted before the 5th round has NOT been great. In fact here’s a list of guys prior to this year, with 2000 as the cutoff point:

Cade York (2022 4th): cut by the Browns after one season, currently on the Titans practice squad.

Roberto Aguayo (2016 2nd): one of the more famous kicker busts in recent memory, cut by the Buccaneers after one season, bounced around different practice squads between 2017-2021, now out of the league.

Alex Henery (2011 4th): three seasons with the Eagles and was actually really solid for them, setting an NFL rookie record for FG accuracy, and then setting the Eagles franchise record for consecutive field goals made. Replaced by Cody Parkey in 2014, played for the Lions and struggled mightily for them, and hasn’t been back in the league ever since. Currently works in real estate.

Stephen Gostkowski (2006 4th): one of the few success stories here, and one of the elite kickers of his era. Long successful career with New England, though he struggled with extra point attempts toward the end of his run.

Mike Nugent (2005 2nd): never lived up to the Jets’ 2nd round draft capital, but did make a nice career for himself as a middling kicker (7 seasons with the Bengals, 4 seasons with the Jets, and the remaining 5 seasons spread out across 6 other franchises).

Nate Kaeding (2004 3rd): spent all 9 seasons with the Chargers (last one part with the Dolphins) and had two Pro Bowl seasons to his name, not bad.

Jeff Chandler (2002 4th): split duties with XFL alumni Jose Cortez. Cut after two seasons with the 49ers, career ended after playing 13 games in 4 years.

Bill Gramatica (2001 4th): perhaps most remembered for injuring himself celebrating a field goal in the second quarter of a Week 14 regular season game. Only kicked in 33 games for the Cardinals (and 1 for the Dolphins) before crashing out of the league.

Sebastian Janikowski (2000 1st): big booming leg kept his career going for a long time despite not being the most accurate (his career FG% finished just below the aforementioned Nugent), had a Pro Bowl season to his name and the only kicker on this list aside from Gostkowski to kick in a Super Bowl.

It’s weird to say that taking a kicker drafted early is betting on an outlier compared to guys drafted late or undrafted, but that seems to be what’s going on. Many of the best kickers in the league today just didn’t have that draft capital attached to them, and maybe there’s something to that. Just something to think about.

Jets K Greg Zuerlein is OUT for Sunday’s game

Jets signed kicker Austin Seibert to the practice squad and then elevated him to the active roster on Saturday

Just got Moody off of waivers. Last week he looked solid off the injury.
I'm streaming and switched from Dicker to Moody this week. Mainly because Moody is playing in a dome this week. I'd be perfectly happy to roll with either of them.
I’ve got Patterson thinking he’d be in a high flying offense.

But after 3 extra points last week I’m thinking of switching to Moody.

Love having Dicker the Kicker, hate having to possibly already cut him during his Week 5 bye. Feels like he’s going to be one of the top scorers at that time and I don’t want to have to drop a good skill position player for a bye filler. Maybe I get lucky and one of my bench guys gets declared out that week (Yahoo allows IR spot for players with Out designation).

I drafted Tucker but wanted Moody. After week 1 results I splashed $5 FAAB to secure him

Niners offense should provide lots of opportunities.

Combine that with solid defense and the 49ers should rarely be trailing all year, which is golden for a kicker. Plus the 49ers rarely go 3 and out? lol

Dallas and 49ers K are money all season. Dicker is certainly at risk if the Chargers D lets them down but he looks good.
This is an excellent point and compelled me to drop Dicker for Aubrey. Cowboys defense should remain elite all season and put them in a position not to have to catch up by multiple touchdowns late in games.

Yeah, I drafted Dicker with the last pick of our league draft. Surprisingly, Moody is still on our wire. I am thinking like the other poster that I am already thinking about that week 5 bye and may make the switch to Moody now, before he is gone. There are only 11 kickers rostered in our league so by week 9 there should be solid kicker options, or I could have a guy I can drop for a bye week filler by then.

Considering Aubrey over Koo. Koo is good, but I think Aubrey will get more opportunities. Thoughts?
I have both. The Dallas kicker, whoever that may be, is a must start. If Aubrey was a known name, he would have been drafted as a top 5 K. All he has done so far is lead the NFL in scoring for the top scoring team.

Drafted Moody in the 3rd round (IDP / K only round) of our rookie draft.

Bet on the 3rd round pedigree: strong leg, made big kicks in bad weather in college. And the 49ers team situation. Thought it was the perfect storm for a rookie to be a top 10 K.

It's early but Moody could end up being the #1 K for the season
was gonna pick him up last week but figured kickers go up and down and i'd just stay the course. someone else grabbed him, now i'm really kicking myself.
I did end up dropping Dicker for Moody right before kickoff last night. Not regretting it a bit. We actually had two owners drop kickers this week and neither picked up Moody. That surprised me. They took Folk and Maher, respectively.

Dumped McPhereson for McManus.

Jax should score some points on HOU, but their offense has proved inefficient so far. D improved as well so maybe more opportunities to get in FG position.

Do yall like Folk or Maher over Dicker?
Maher still worries me. He’s had a nice start, but I don’t think the Rams will be that competitive, and I don’t trust that he won’t fall to pieces again.

In all of my leagues with kickers MFG is -2 and MPAT is -3

He scored -12 for me in that game. I have trust issues.

Nearly dropped Dicker for Moody prior to Week 2, hesitated, rival picked him up, full of regret now. Ended up dropping Dicker for Aubrey, who has also been killing it at least.

I played softball against Moody and his buddies in a league couple years ago. Very laid back guy..thats makes a good kicker. Moody was a good hitter and fielder but never tried or ran that hard as he was worried about getting hurt.

Moody is a weapon to have as a kicker. 9-9 with a 57 yarder cleared by 7-8 yards. Thought the Niners reached in the third but I would trade the Lions third rd pick Broderic Martin who was taken two picks earlier for Moody in a second.
