The Official Kicker (K) Thread (1 Viewer)

Badgley, Dicker.....can't decide. Detroit and Bears will be a track meet for scoring, and it's indoors. I have no real strong indication with Rams/Chargers and can see enough stalled drives Dicker comes in with at least 3 attempts.

Chicago is 28th in RZ defense, Rams 2nd (e.g. second lowest percentage of RZ opportunities resulting in TDs)

Detroit is the 3rd most efficient RZ offense, Chargers are 26th

FF Points allowed to Ks:

LAR - 4th most
CHI - 31st

At least this week there don't appear to be any weather issues. I am going round and round on the following myself (definitely no weather issues in these). Have a feeling picking the right or wrong kicker is going to swing a close matchup.

Numbers in parens are how that team is allowing K points in my league and average PPG given up. Followed by the kicker's scores the last 5 games.

Patterson at HOU (7th most 7.27) 8 7 13 11 14

Dicker vs LAR (3rd most 8.07) 5 7 11 6 8

Gould at LVR (23rd most 6.13) 8 18 5 2 13

I am tempted to go Gould with the likelihood 49ers roll the Raiders with Stidham (hopefully with enough scoring chances some are FG and not just TDs). However, by the time they play if they are out of running for the #1 seed will they rest key players? There definitely is more variance here.

Patterson's recent ceiling and floor definitely appears better than Dicker. The JAX coach claims to be playing as normal this week although it means nothing while next week means everything for them so might he change mid-game?

Do agree with Largent72's thinking there could be stalled drives and thus FG attempts for Dicker.

Right now I am leaning Patterson, Dicker, and Gould in that order. Anyone else dealing with deciding amongst some of these kickers and your thoughts on them?

Same basic thing here and leaning dicker because of the rams and chargers overall tendencies towards field goals. But honestly have no conviction in anything.

I have ekeler, so maybe dicker is a hedge against that, although maybe it means that I should go elsewhere to maximize variance.

Seems everyone is going between either Dicker or Bagdley. I've got the same choice but Bass and Gano are also available. Is either a better start over Dicker or Badgley?

Got Dicker or Bass in two leagues. Went Dicker last week. Going Bass this week. And in one league we go 18 weeks and likely Dicker.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the team would "take a look" at whether Brett Maher will start in the Divisional Round against the 49ers.

One of the league's most reliable kickers this season, Maher came down with a horrific case of the yips Monday night against the Bucs, missing four of his five extra point attempts -- two of which were not close. Maher had not missed an extra point since Week 4 and converted 50 of his 53 regular season extra point tries, along with 29 of his 32 field goal attempts. Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said the team would "forge ahead" with Maher this weekend against the Niners. Special teams coordinator John Fassel said, "Hell yeah" when asked if Maher should start in the Divisional Round. Josh Lambo and Rodrigo Blankenship are the two most prominent kicker free agents available right now.

Cowboys signed K Tristan Vizcaino to the practice squad.

This move comes just days after Brett Maher missed four extra points in the Cowboys Wild Card win over the Buccaneers. The team is expected to go with Maher heading into the Divisional Round against the Eagles, but Vizcaino could be active on game day for added insurance. He spent time with both the Patriots and Cardinals this season, converting all three of his extra points while going two-for-two on his field goal attempts.

Seahawks signed K Jason Myers to a four-year, $21.1 million extension.

The Seahawks wasted little time in securing Myers, who was set to hit free agency this offseason. Myers was named to the NFC's Pro Bowl roster after converting on 34-of-37 field goal attempts this season while making all but one of his 42 extra point attempts. In 2021, Myers converted a career-low 74 percent of his field goal attempts and was thought by many to be a potential cap casualty. Now, after one of the best seasons of his career, it appears he'll be with the Seahawks well into the foreseeable future. Myers' deal makes him the second-highest-paid kicker in the NFL behind Baltimore's Justin Tucker.

Maher’s a good kicker. Bad night. OK, worst night of kicking extra points in the 90 years they’ve been keeping track…

He missed three FGs all regular season - two were from 59 yards. He was 50-of-51 on extra points that weren't blocked/deflected.

They also cannot ignore what happened Monday night. Vizcaino had a brief off-season stint with them in 2020, so that fits - someone they’re comfortable with, no awkward oh-this-doesn’t-mean-anything tryouts.

I think as long as Maher looks his normal self in practice this week, he’ll start. Now they have insurance - would be malpractice to do nothing.

Mike Vanderjagt (the original “idiot kicker”) once lost the Cowboys PK job bc he looked shaky making a kick. So I guess anything’s on the table.

He is one of my 2 kickers in a 16 team must-start a kicker dynasty league.

I’m not too concerned. He might not kick for Dallas next year, but he’ll kick next year for someone.

And Jacksonville traded Riley Patterson to Detroit.
Surprising since Patterson was so good last year.

Had volume but was not good on kickoffs. Doesn’t have a big leg, and 85.7% overall is middle of the pack.

Detroit sent a conditional 2026 7th rounder (lol); was a Final Cut after his rookie year. His strengths/weaknesses are nearly identical to Badgley but I guess they like competition.

Detroit kept the wrong guy two years running. Been pretty awesome at roster construction except stupid kickers…

Please correct as needed, thank you.

ARI - Matt Prater - No website I saw listed any competition for 2023, yet. The soon-to-be 39 year old can still nail the long ball, but he did miss 4 games last year.
ATL - Younghoe Koo & Matthew Trickett - The Falcons signed UDFA Trickett to a 3-year deal, but It's still Koo's job and he is signed thru 2026.
BAL - Justin Tucker - The GOAT has never missed a game and is signed thru 2027. Has finished as a top 10 kicker every year of his 11-year career.
BUF - Tyler Bass - A slightly above average kicker with a decent leg; the gig is all his in this high powered offense. 50+ EP attempts in each of his first 3 seasons.
CAR - Eddy Pineiro - Only 8 FG's in 2021, but 95.3% (41 out of 43) over the last 2 seasons is tops in the NFL. Has played for a different team every year... until now.
CHI - Cairo Santos & Andre Szmyt - UDFA Szmyt was brought in to light a fire under Santos, a veteran with a weak leg who missed 5 EP's last season.
CIN - Evan McPherson - Arguably the best long kicker, he's nearly 20 percentage pts better from 50+ than from 40-49 (sure, small sample size, but fun stat).
CLE - Cade York - The only K selected in last year's draft, York tied for the league lead in missed FG's. Still, he has no competition to speak of this year.
DAL - Tristan Vizcaino & Brandon Aubrey - Aubrey signed to compete with Vizcaino, who is on his 5th team in 4 years. Is the kicker for 2023 even on the team yet?
DEN - Elliott Fry - Fry's entire career since joining the league in 2020 consists of 1 game each with the Bengals, Chiefs, and Falcons. Waiting for some FA signings...
DET - Michael Badgley, Riley Patterson, & John Parker Romo - The Money Badger sucks. I think Riley's getting his job back, but I will defer to @BobbyLayne
GB - Anders Carlson - The younger brother of Raiders Daniel Carlson, he has big shoes to fill. It's his job to lose, and there's no shortage of FA kickers.
HOU - Ka'imi Fairbairn - Since his K1 finish in 2018, he has finishes of 14, 19, 20, and 29. He just needs more volume, but he's good with a decent leg to boot.
IND - Matt Gay & Lucas Havrisik - Gay just signed the largest FA kicker deal ever, so this isn't a camp battle. Gay spent 3 yrs on the Rams with 92.5% FG accuracy.
JAC - Brandon McManus & James McCourt - McManus is known for his strong leg, but let's see how he does at sea level against another strong legged kicker.
KC - Harrison Butker - Despite missing 4 games and hitting on only 75% of his FG's, the job is still Butker's. He's a great kicker and I give him a mulligan.
LV - Daniel Carlson - Set new record with 11 FG's of 50+ yards in 2022. Can make a case for the best kicker over the last 3 seasons (K1, K1, K3).
LAC - Dustin Hopkins & Cameron Dicker - As a Chargers homer, this'll be a battle I'm interested in. I was happy to get Hopkins from WAS, but Dicker was great.
LAR - Tanner Brown - I'm sure the Rams will bring in some legs to compete, but for now the Oklahoma State UDFA is the only kicker on the roster.
MIA - Jason Sanders - Went from All-Pro in 2020 to a dud the last 2 seasons. He has only 4 FG's of 50+ since 2021, and will surely face competition soon.
MIN - Greg Joseph & Jack Podlesny - 78% FG's and 87% EP's does not inspire confidence. Still, I read Joseph needs to stink it up in camp to lose his job.
NE - Chad Ryland & Nick Folk - Can the youngster shelf the old-timer? Belichick likes his seasoned vets, but I think the rookie will impress enough.
NO - Wil Lutz & Blake Grupe - Lutz missed 2021 due to injury, then had his worst season ever last year. Will the Saints cut him and go with UDFA Grupe?
NYG - Graham Gano - Gano is aging like a fine wine. He connected on a mere 79.7% FG's in his first 8 seasons, but over his last 5 seasons he's at 92.3%.
NYJ - Greg Zuerlein - Legatron did well enough last year to earn another 1-year deal. The Jets were tops in the league in touchback percentage.
PHI - Jake Elliott - Agreed to contract restructure and set a personal high with 51 EP's made. Numbers-wise, his last 2 years have been the best of his career.
PIT - Chris Boswell & B.T. Potter - Boswell extended and kicks well in a tough stadium. But, he did miss time last year and was only 50% from 40-49.
SF - Jake Moody & Zane Gonzalez - The 49'ers traded for Zane to fill Robbie's cleats, but then drafted Jake in the 3rd round. Buh-bye Zane.
SEA - Jason Myers - Imagine playing an entire season without missing a single FG and hitting a 60-yarder to boot? Only Myers has done it in NFL history.
TB - Chase McLaughlin & Rodrigo Blankenship - If "Hot Rod" didn't have a cool nickname or coke bottle glasses, he would be cut. My money is on Chase.
TEN - Caleb Shudak & Trey Wolff - With a combined 1 NFL game, it's too early to say who will win the job. The only news I saw had Shudak with the advantage.
WAS - Joey Slye - 1 of 25 K's since 2019 with 100+ EP attempts. All others are between 91.2 - 98.6%, with an average of 95.0%. Slye is 87.6%. Replace him!

SF - Jake Moody & Zane Gonzalez - The 49'ers traded for Zane to fill Robbie's cleats, but then drafted Jake in the 3rd round. Buh-bye Zane.
I’ve now drafted Moody in 2 rookie drafts

Fingers crossed he was worth what the 49ers paid to draft him.

@TomPelissero

A surprise: The #Lions are releasing kicker Michael Badgley, per source.
How is that a surprise when they traded for Patterson ? Figured this was a for sure thing.

for a 2026 conditional seventh-round pick

the thought was Badgley and Patterson are essentially the same guy - both accurate but lack distance

the guy who is now competing with Patterson (XFLer John Parker Romo) has a bigger leg but realistically no shot given his resume: Central Arkansas, Tulsa, cup of coffee with Saints

Zane Gonzales reportedly shanked a 53 yarder in practice yesterday (moody had the day off)

Moody has reportedly been as advertised, hitting all 6 of his FGs.

Depth chart has Moody as the 1. Zane is likely on to greener pastures.

Brett Maher just signed with DEN. Elliott Fry now has some competition.
Maher was #1 kicker last year before getting the yips on the playoffs and missing 4 straight XP's. Now a lot of that had to do with being in the Dallas offense but he was a very good kicker hitting long FG's at a good rate before getting the yips.
I’m holding onto Maher. That was such a flukey thing - he’s my K3 on a large roster dynasty squad in a 16 team league. And bonus, if you don’t start a K, you get a 0 for the week for your whole roster, so k’s routinely get dealt for future 3rd / 4th rounders.

Hoping Maher will be solid in DEN so I can flip him.

Jags went for two after every touchdown in their preseason game yesterday. I assume Coach Pederson just wanted to work on those plays, but is there any indication he might go for two regularly? He seems to be a forward thinker and not afraid to buck convention (Philly special anybody?) If so, that would be a huge boon for TLaw and their skill players, and kill the value of Riley Patterson.

Most recent practice per Wingnut in the 49er thread: Moody made his first 4 from 59, 38, 56 and 53. He then missed from 61 and made from 43.

Personally I think any new kicker is going to get off to a slow start while getting used to a new snapper and holder. Game 2 will be worth watching.

We don’t need no stinking kicker.

The Titans do not have a kicker on roster after waiving Badgley.

:oldunsure: 🤷
