The Official Kicker (K) Thread (1 Viewer)

Debating between Santos and Boswell too. Have Santos but Boswell's production over the past five weeks has me reconsidering. Probably will make a gut decision at the last minute.

Anyone concerned about Denver's defense limiting FG attempts?
Same decision, don't know what to do. I'm leaning Boswell but I'm really torn here.
Sticking with Santos. KC will have scoring chances...*shrug*

Debating McManus or Catanzaro. Thinking the Broncos have more FGAs but don't feel great about either.
:oldunsure:

Well, hit on just about everything else this weekend. Guess I'll be rolling with Cat next weekend.

The Prater experiment is failing. Those on this train...are you sticking to the end or looking at options?

For me, looking at the following:

Santos home vs. CLE

McManus home vs. CIN

Myers @ NO

Barth vs. Bears

Know its all a crapshoot and sure if I drop Prater, he'll kick 5 FGs against the Niners. What say ye?

Had Hauschka most of the year and dropped him for Prater. Hoping to get him back but if I cant I'll either roll with Prater or go for Myers, Barth, or another ww option. McManus and Santos are already rostered in my league.

Still have Gano. Cam keeps scoring TD's - I like that this is indoors. Carolina has to lose sometime right? Maybe this is the week Atlanta looks good inside the dome.

So I escaped playing Randy Bullock last week to make it to the final. But something tells me to play him again vs Patriots -- should I stop drinking?

Weather in KC looks like it may be similar to the conditions when they played San Diego and it will be a bit colder. Rainy and windy. Santos had a difficult scoring day against SD and could be in for another bad day this Sunday.

Thank God I held here...was off (only 4 field goals). Won my league by 4 points in part due to the kicker differential (he had Boswell). Hope others held serve as well with similar results!

I'm done with Myers. Looking at the following:

Graham

Novak or Bullock

Sturgis

Forbath

Really want Graham this week. I'd prefer the Jets (Bullock) over the Texans (Novak) but Novak kicking indoors will likely be the deciding factor for me.

Suspended K Josh Brown's one-game ban resulted from a domestic violence charge in 2015.
Brown was arrested in May of 2015 for fourth-degree domestic violence. He reportedly "quarreled" with the alleged victim and "grabbed her wrist" as she was picking up a phone. A police report stated the woman had "redness" on the wrist, "and a small cut, possibly from a fingernail." Said Brown in a statement, "While I do not agree with the suspension, I will accept it. I have exhausted the appeals process and have no other options along those lines."

Title edited to reflect start of 2016 season. Thanks to Faust for bumping.

I still miss the old threads and advice columns from Herman.

Fwiw in NO Forbath got first shot at the job in preseason week 1 and he shanked his kick. I'm really liking the opportunity for Barth this year, hopefully he shows up.

You can't make this up:

Eagles K Caleb Sturgis will miss Thursday's preseason game after suffering a concussion in warmups.
Sturgis wasn't wearing a helmet and got blindsided by a ball. It's noteworthy because Sturgis is battling Cody Parkey for the starting job. His injury could decide the competition.

Unbelievable!

Texans K Nick Novak is in the NFL's concussion protocol.
This is our second kicker concussion of the preseason after Eagles K Caleb Sturgis suffered one when a football hit him in the head during pregame warmups on Thursday night. Camp leg "Ka'imi Fairbairn" (quad) is also banged up.

Nugent has struggled mightily so far.  Still favored to keep the job in Cincy but Hocker is healthy now so should at least have a chance to compete for the job.

For those looking at bargain basement guys that will likely be on the board the last round, I like Matt Prater. Long foot + dome team and with Megatron no longer there as a RZ threat I see more FG attempts. Still no running game to speak of so not much going for it on 4th & short once inside the 40.

Also sounds like they plan to go no huddle and play fast more this year.

Any good links to a kicker job-security list?  I'm doing a draft-only league, and I'm just looking for someone who won't get cut in preseason.

Here is my kicker job security list, where the number is something like the probability that the kicker is the yearlong starter for his team, assuming no new injuries. (I posted something similar before the 2014 season.)

Basically they're guesses, after looking at obvious sources of information where it seemed relevant (depth charts, Rotoworld blurbs, news, last year's performance, contract, etc).

In general those numbers seem high. Good work, just high given the boom/bust high-stakes nature of kickers.

More specifically, one example is Jags fans were growing impatient with Myers last year. If he blows more PATs, his leash won't be too long.

Hocker got cut.

In NO Barth's kickoffs have been extremely disappointing. Morstead is a great kickoff man but I'm thinking they want to spare him teh duty if they can, so that woudl give Forbath and edge IMO though his KOs are kind of mediocre too, just slightly better IMO.

Aguayo is starting to grow on me. Found his leg last week plus that offense should be moving up and down the 20s this year.

I have three guidelines for drafting a kicker, in this order:

1. Dome kicker
2. High Powered Offense
3. Broncos kicker

2b. Great defense and average offense that doesn't commit turnovers. Walsh was top 5 last year, and this year he kicks in a  dome 10 times, and has December games in Dallas and Jacksonville. I think Bradford = Bridgewater.

Cairo Santos in the last round = free $

What about Prater? I could see Detroit marching down field but not being able to punch it in with their rbs, leading to some fgs.

Saints released K Kai Forbath.

The Saints are going with UDFA Wil Lutz. Forbath beat Connor Barth in a summer competition, but evidently didn't convince the coaching staff he deserved to keep his job. Lutz is coming from small-school Georgia State, so it's definitely a gamble for a team that can never seem to settle on a kicker.

I had no idea what the Saints were doing but I took a look at Lutz's work in Baltimore during the PS and things are looking up from my POV. He has a big leg.

Prater is my under the radar guy this year at K.  Detroit will be slinging it and if the last half of 2015 is any indication, they'll be able to move the ball and put points on the board.  With the loss of Calvin and a questionable ground game, I think they'll be settling for 3's on a frequent basis.
