The Official Kicker (K) Thread (3 Viewers)

How long have we been chasing the Saints kicker now?  Every year they're a hot pick but in the last 10 years we've gotten zero top 5 finishes and one top 10 finish out of it.  They've been in a dome and an offense that moves the ball that whole time.

Granted that top 10 finish was Lutz last year so I guess there is hope, but it always seems like "this is going to be the year".

Here is my kicker job security list, where the number is something like the probability that the kicker is the yearlong starter for his team, assuming no new injuries. (I posted something similar before the 2016 and 2014 seasons.)

0.98    Cairo Santos     KC
0.98    Adam Vinatieri     IND
0.98    Matt Prater     DET
0.98    Brandon McManus     DEN
0.98    Dan Bailey     DAL
0.98    Steve Hauschka     BUF
0.98    Justin Tucker     BAL
0.96    Mason Crosby     GB
0.95    Ryan Succop     TEN
0.95    Chris Boswell     PIT
0.95    Josh Lambo     LACH
0.95    Phil Dawson     ARI
0.94    Sebastian Janikowski     OAK
0.94    Stephen Gostkowski     NE
0.94    Matt Bryant     ATL
0.92    Wil Lutz     NO
0.90    Dustin Hopkins     WAS
0.89    Robbie Gould     SF
0.88    Caleb Sturgis     PHI
0.88    Jason Myers     JAC
0.88    Nick Novak     HOU
0.87    Blair Walsh     SEA
0.87    Greg Zuerlein     LARM
0.85    Chandler Catanzaro     NYJ
0.85    Kai Forbath     MIN
0.80    Andrew Franks     MIA
0.75    Connor Barth     CHI
0.73    Graham Gano     CAR
0.65    Aldrick Rosas     NYG
0.60    Jake Elliott     CIN
0.55    Zane Gonzalez     CLE
0.50    Roberto Aguayo     TB

The numbers are my guesses, after looking at relevant sources of information (depth charts, news stories, contracts, etc.).

Why so low on a few of these guys

i might not draft Gonzalez right now but young guy they drafted. I don't see him at that low.

Ellioot is another. Cincy is not a turn table for Pk really and like his chances for to keep job for a while

Lutz with Saints is guy that still scares me and Hopkins has been around the block a little

And now Aguayo is cut.

The rookies both have veteran competition, and other people seem to think that they're pretty legit competitions (e.g., both Cincy kickers have been getting taken in many of the Anarchy leagues, Elliott & Bullock). Lutz & Hopkins were both fairly solid last year, and they're each the only kicker on their roster (though they could still get replaced by another team's cut). My numbers might be a little off on these guys but they at least seem right ballpark.

Does anyone have any insight into the Panther kicking job?  Gano is the incumbent but struggled last year.  They drafted Butker in the 7th round and I read somewhere that he looked good.      With panthers offense looking good they could produce a top 10 kicker if we can figure out who it is.

This is just your preseason reminder that Will LUTZ has been great in preseason.

Also a note on the Chiefs for those drafting - Santos hasn't been kicking at all, supposedly he's supposed to be ready for Week 1 but I wouldn't want you to get stuck without a K.

Texans released K Nick Novak.

The move is surprising after Novak converted 85.4 percent of his 41 field goal attempts last season. Ka'imi Fairbairn has a cheaper base salary, although we're not convinced the Texans will stick with Fairbairn after he missed his only attempt beyond 40 yards in the preseason. Novak should resurface.

Ka'imi Fairbairn
That's a new one on me.

I think Zane Gonzalez with CLE is pretty intriguing.

The Giants are going with Aldrick Rosas over Nugent.

Also people should know that Carolina just cut Gano and are going with Harrison Butker.

I'm guessing some who drafted a week or two ago are going to find their kicker doesn't play for a team.

Randy Bullock has won the Bengals' starting kicker job.

He beat out fifth-round rookie Jake Elliott. Bullock, who joined Cincinnati last December after the team cut Mike Nugent, converted 5-of-6 field goals while drilling all six of his PATs during the preseason. He's been with five teams since entering the league as a fifth-round pick in 2012.

Second-year UDFA Aldrick Rosas has won the Giants' kicking job.

The Southern Oregon product beat out veteran Mike Nugent. We don't have a scouting report on Rosas, but he converted 8-of-8 field goal attempts this preseason, including ones from 52 and 48 yards. His fantasy relevance will depend on Eli Manning.

Bears waived K Roberto Aguayo.

Chicago claimed Aguayo off waivers three weeks ago. Taking a chance on a former second-round pick made sense, but Aguayo missed his only in-game attempt. He may need some time away from the game to clear his head.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Panthers are "getting trade calls" on K Graham Gano.

Gano made just 3-of-5 kicks during the preseason and appears to have lost the starting job to seventh-round rookie Harrison Butker. The Panthers aren't going to keep two kickers and will probably end up releasing Gano if a deal isn't reached by Saturday's 4 PM ET deadline for final roster cuts.

Seventh-round rookie Zane Gonzalez has won the Browns' kicking job.

The No. 224 overall pick beat out Cody Parkey. Prolific, accurate and big-legged, Gonzalez could rapidly develop into one of the league's best kickers.

Chargers' Younghoe Koo: Wins starting job with Chargers

by RotoWire Staff

Koo will be the Chargers' kicker after incumbent Josh Lambo was released Saturday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

The decision to move on from Lambo was understandable from the Chargers perspective, as he converted only 81.3 percent of his field goals in each of the past seasons while missing eight extra-point attempts in the same span. Furthermore, he showed very little range in 2016, missing all three of his attempts from beyond 50 yards. On the other hand, Koo missed just one attempt in 11 games at Georgia Southern last fall and was in the running to win the Lou Groza award, given to the best kicker in college football. Koo should prove to be an upgrade.

Chandler Catanzaro won the Jets' kicking job.

Second-year UDFA Ross Martin was cut on Friday, leaving the job to Catanzaro. The former Cardinals kicker won't have many extra points to attempt in what should be the league's very-worst offense this season.

Dolphins claimed K Cody Parkey, formerly of the Browns, off waivers.

Parkey could not beat out Zane Gonzalez in Cleveland, but the Dolphins apparently see him as a better option than Andrew Franks. Franks missed a field goal this preseason, but he was perfect on 11 extra point attempts. Parkey was 2-for-2 on field goal attempts and 3-for-3 on PATs.

Dolphins released K Andrew Franks.

His fate was sealed when the Dolphins claimed Cody Parkey off waivers. "Just wanted to thank the @MiamiDolphins for the opportunity and for a great 2 yrs," Franks tweeted. "Time to get back to work." The 24-year-old converted 16-of-21 field goals last year with a long of 55 yards. He should resurface with a kicker-needy team at some point.

Panthers GM Marty Hurney said if the Panthers are unable to trade one of their two kickers, Graham Gano will kick against the 49ers in Week 1.

The Panthers decided to keep two kickers on their 53-man roster as a temporary measure in hopes of trading either Gano or seventh-round rookie Harrison Butker, but so far they haven't found any takers. If that's still the case by next Sunday, Gano will get the nod against San Francisco. Gano converted just 30-of-38 kicks last year with a long of 54 yards.

In all three of my leagues-- Matt Bryant was like the 4th or 5th K off the board. Not sure why? He's #1 for me. Scooped him up in every league.

Throws a wrench into things.  Hopefully there is a clear answer long before kickoff.
And now talk that his back isn't right.  I have him as the only kicker on my roster, with a waiver run tonight.  What are the odds that Seabass doesn't play Sunday?

My guess is pretty good.  I am sure they could sign a good kicker for half of what he is scheduled to earn.  Kind of doubt Seabass would be happy making half, but I am guessing that is where the Raiders are thinking.  I already bailed and picked up Hopkins and dropped him.  I have better things to pay attention to on the weekend.

Everyone assumes the Falcons offense will take a step back this year.

Still a top kicker option IMO.

yeah you should dump him  Heck I dumped Gano based on the trade talk.

Btw for those in leagues crazy and deep enough that you have to stash kickers (even unemployed ones) Elliot being on the Bengals practice squad probably hurts his chances at getting signed elsewhere since presumably he can't do any tryouts - they'd have to sign him sight unseen.

Well, the only way I dumb him and get a replacement is with a waiver run tonight at midnight.  It's a 2 round waiver run, and I have my eyes on a few current free agents (some defensive guys, and now Josh Gordon).

That's what's great about kickers on top offenses. The offense can take a step back on TDs and it might actually help the kicker stats.

Any word on Gano? Starter still for Panthers? I thought I had read somewhere he was on the roster bubble but didn't hear anything else.

Sebastian Janikowski will stay with the Raiders after resolving his contractual differences with the Raiders.

He will remain the longest-tenured Raider in team history. Janikowski was the 17th overall pick in the 2000 NFL draft. Janikowski went 29-of-35 on field goals last season and is worth a look as a Week 1 play in what's projected as a high-scoring game against the Titans.
