Unless one of those fans is Buffalo Bill, and he has used the other fans skins to form a dome, I don't see how people can cut down on wind.Someone please explain the science of the following to me. I read a couple of articles / blurbs where kickers are suggesting that having limited or no fans this year will have a huge impact on the wind and will make it much harder to kick FG or XP.
Apparently the kickers are suggesting that fans dramatically cut down on the wind. Is that really a thing? I would think that wind blowing across the field would be the same either way, no? But I really don’t see how the difference in wind speed without fans could be THAT dramatic. To me, it’s either windy or it’s not.
Patriots signed K Nick Folk.
Folk turns 36 in November. He spent seven games with New England last season, drilling 14-of-17 field goals and all 12 of his extra points. The longtime Jets kicker will compete with fifth-round rookie Justin Rohrwasser, who has been described as "erratic" in practice this summer. Rohrwasser has the edge due to his draft pedigree, but Bill Belichick isn't going to put that ahead of the team's success. Folk has a legit shot to beat out the rookie.

Updating this, Mason Crosby was activated over a week ago...Packers placed K Mason Crosby on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
Crosby was one of three Packers to be placed on the COVID list. There is no word on whether he is symptomatic or not. The Packers' kicker since 2007, Crosby has roughly six weeks to get ready for Week 1.

Sixth-round rookie Tyler Bass has won the Bills' kicking competition.
Bass beat out veteran Stephen Hauschka. If teams use a draft pick on a kicker, they are usually going to win the job, but Bass was a bit of a head-scratching pick. He enters the league out of small-school Georgia Southern having converted just 20-of-28 kicks as a redshirt senior. The Bills are obviously in love with his leg, while Bass did convert 114-of-116 college extra points. The lack of fans early in the season could help a young kicker gain confidence.

NBC's Tim Curran said the Patriots should go into the regular season with veteran Nick Folk as their kicker, not 2020 draft pick Justin Rohrwasser.
Rohrwasser has struggled with consistency while Folk has been accurate with his attempts since signing with the Patriots on Monday. There's been some speculation that Rohrwasser has dealt with an injury -- not that the Patriots would ever reveal as much. The team "can’t afford to roll the dice on a guy who’s working out the kinks as he enters the league," Curran wrote. "There are a whole lot of question marks facing the Patriots in 2020. If they can eliminate one of them at kicker, they should." Curran suggested cutting the rookie and re-signing him to the practice squad. Whoever gets the starting job for New England could be useful for fantasy purposes on a team that should see plenty of positive game script -- a key in pinpointing viable fantasy kickers.

Rams K Sam Sloman continued his struggles Saturday amid the team's three-way kicker competition.
While the Rams blasted Twilight Zone music as Sloman kicked, the seventh round selection missed three of his eight field goal attempts. He was the only one of the three kickers to make his 53-yard try. Sloman was off target in the team's first scrimmage too. When a team drafts a kicker, he usually makes the roster. But Sloman could very well lose out to either Lirim Hajrullahu or Austin MacGinnis.

Jets waived K Brett Maher, leaving Sam Ficken as the team's Week 1 starter.
Maher, who excelled for a while in Dallas, lost out to Ficken in their training camp battle. Ficken started 15 games for New York last year, converting an abysmal 19 of his 27 field goal tries, along with 23 of 26 extra points. Perhaps he showed improvement during camp, or Maher was just worse. Look for Maher to catch on with a kicker-needy team during the season.

Trading FOR kickers is weird. Don’t be weird.I know this is frowned upon in most parts, but since this is the K thread... Is it worth trading for Butker in dynasty? What's a fair offer?
Trading FOR kickers is weird. Don’t be weird.
You will just as easy be able to find a suitable kicker on the WW. Or at the very least? You’ll also do just fine streaming, or playing matchups.
Bucs agreed to terms with K Ryan Succop, formerly of the Titans.
The soon-to-be 34-year-old (on September 19) was released by the Titans way earlier in the offseason after an injury-marred 2019 that saw him miss the first 10 games of his career. He made just 1-of-6 field goal attempts but 24-of-25 extra points as he battled through knee woes. In Tampa Bay, Succop will put major heat on incumbent Matt Gay while this likely means the end of the Elliott Fry experiment. Succop has never really possessed a huge leg, but he was very reliable prior to last season with a career 82.2% success rate on field goals. Whoever kicks in this offense will have value in kicker leagues.

I just traded away Fournette for Gibson and the Ravens Kicker (along with $15 BBID) but the kicker was definitely an asset in my view (not a worthless throw in), especially if you play in a league that starts a kicker and I didn't have one.Trading FOR kickers is weird. Don’t be weird.

I'd offer a 3rd, or try to get him as a throw-in on a larger trade.I know this is frowned upon in most parts, but since this is the K thread... Is it worth trading for Butker in dynasty? What's a fair offer?
That's what I think as well. I don't poo-poo any player at any position that I think can give me an advantage, especially a long-term one.I'd offer a 3rd, or try to get him as a throw-in on a larger trade.
Gostkowski offered a pretty nice edge on the field year after year - I'm in a 0.5 PPR league where I estimate that his career was worth about as much as Randall Cobb, Knowshon Moreno, Leonard Fournette, or Stefon Diggs have been so far. So definitely seems worth the effort to try to get Butker or Tucker, whose skills & teams give them a shot to be that sort of difference-maker.
GREG JOSEPH K, UNSIGNED FREE AGENT
Titans waived K Greg Joseph.
He was waived to make room for former Patriots K Stephen Gostkowski, who the team signed to a one-year deal. Joseph was 9-of-9 on extra points upon being called up to replace Ryan Succop at the end of the season.

Titans signed K Stephen Gostkowski, formerly of the Patriots.
An addition was inevitable after the Titans waived K Greg Joseph on Thursday. Released by the Patriots back in March, Gostkowski played in just four games due to injury last season, connecting on 7-of-8 field goals and 11-of-15 extra points. UDFA Tucker McCann remains on the outside looking in ahead of Saturday's final cuts.

Buccaneers waived K Matt Gay.
Veteran Ryan Succop inevitably wins the job after Gay struggled throughout camp. Currently coming off draft boards as the overall K7, Gay clearly needs to be devalued for Succop moving forward.

Matt Gay, #5 K on this list, was just released. Has to be tough being a K in the NFL. What have you done for me lately!
That list was not very good. There are training camp battles going on all over the place. Tampa might be the 5th best spot for a fantasy kicker, but it was evident the Bucs were not happy with Gay and brought in competition. Similarly, NE is going to end up with Folk not the rookie they drafted.Matt Gay, #5 K on this list, was just released. Has to be tough being a K in the NFL. What have you done for me lately!
I love this list done by job security, but do you have a more current one?Gay was 24th on this list, which is sorted by job security rather than team kicking value.
Nope. I was going to make one for my Anarchy draft, but then I just took Tucker + Butker.TheWinz said:I love this list done by job security, but do you have a more current one?
Rams waived K Lirim Hajrullahu.
This comes as a surprise since Hajrullahu was reportedly leading the competition to replace Greg Zuerlein in camp. The job now becomes Sam Sloman's, who the Rams drafted in the seventh round this year. Austin MacGinnis is also expected to be waived in the next 24 hours.

I hear ya. It's FF's version of set it and forget it. Jason Hanson played 21 straight seasons for the Lions. And Justin Tucker is the only kicker in NFL history with at least 100 attempts to be over 90%. The Ravens would be wise to pay him whatever he wants. From a real NFL perspective...its why GB has been fortunate over the years with Crosby...to have that type of confidence (not always as he had to fight off a couple moments of struggle and competition too)...just seems nice to have that as long as you can.
Wasted 5 th round pick.LOL at NE. They cut both their kickers. Lots of confusion as to what they are doing. It could (should) mean they want to give someone else a roster spot to get that player onto IR and then bring back Folk. Others thing they will scramble to tryout other kickers. However, Folk was very good last year when they brought him in and also the last few weeks in camp. I still think Folk will end up being the Patriots kicker.
That mostly goes without saying, but he may end up on the practice squad. It’s generally not a great idea to draft a kicker in the first place.Wasted 5 th round pick.![]()
Bears released K Cairo Santos.
Eddy Pineiro won the camp battle for kicking duties over Santos. Pineiro was dealing with a groin injury but appears to be healthy. Santos could be brought back once the Bears make some final adjustments to their roster after cutting down to 53.

The Patriots are woefully short at WR on the depth chart after Edelman and Harry.Wasted 5 th round pick.![]()
Oh ye of little faith. Byrd will turn into another find and reclamation project. And don’t rule out a trade. The Patriots are woefully short at WR on the depth chart after Edelman and Harry.
Here are the WR who were picked after they used their fifth round pick on Rohrwasser:
Tyler Johnson
Collin Johnson
Quintez Cephus
John Hightower
Isaiah Coulter
Darnell Mooney
K.J. Osborn
What is worse is they traded a 2020 second for Sanu, who they just cut. They could have had Denzel Mims with that pick. The Patriots are woefully short at WR on the depth chart after Edelman and Harry.

I don’t want to soil an otherwise perfectly fine kicker thread, but NE has a pretty spotty record in terms of 2nd round picks. Was going to say a 3rd as wellThat's what I think as well. I don't poo-poo any player at any position that I think can give me an advantage, especially a long-term one.
I was thinking a 3rd also, so maybe that's good.
Might be the homer in me but I say Boswell. In 2017 he finished 4th, in 2018 he had the yips and was terrible, and finished 8th last year when the Steelers were last in Red Zone offense and 27th in scoring offense.Top 3 kickers seem fairly obvious. Zuerlein maybe 4. Any sleeper type guys who could get into 4-6 range?
From 2007-2018, Gostkowski had a VBD score of 258 points. That’s obviously very good and worked out to an average of 23 points per year. As has been debated in other threads over the years, the question becomes is it the environment or is it the kicker? In Gostkowski’s case, I would say it was the Patriots offense. In Tucker’s case, I think it’s been more him than the offense most years.I'd offer a 3rd, or try to get him as a throw-in on a larger trade.

How about Succop ? Throw out last season when he was obviously hurt, but before that he was real solid. He has the latest possible bye this season (week 13) so you can "set it and forget it", he doesn't have any potential bad weather games at all after week 10, and with Brady at QB now, the Bucs are going to cut down on the turnovers and necessarily end up with more FG attempts. As it is, last year, had Gay not missed so many kicks, the Bucs would have been # 5 in kicker scoring.Top 3 kickers seem fairly obvious. Zuerlein maybe 4. Any sleeper type guys who could get into 4-6 range?
Nah I mostly play dynasty as well. I must’ve misread the post that I quoted - thought OP was strictly trying to trade for a K. No package deal.Maybe you only play redraft, because in dynasty kickers are traded quite a bit
Patriots signed Justin Rohrwasser and Nick Folk to the practice squad.
New England remains without a kicker on the roster a week before their season opener against Miami. It's a bold strategy. We'll likely see the team activate Folk or Rohrwasser to the 53-man roster this week, or the team will sign a free agent kicker like Matt Gay. Patriots beat writers throughout August said kicker was a major weak spot for the team. Field goals and extra points could be precarious for the Patriots in 2020.

Bills tried out three kickers.
Strange. The Bills are still looking at kickers two weeks after waiving veteran Stephen Hauschka and seemingly giving the starting nod to rookie Tyler Bass. Buffalo tried out kickers Matthew McCrane (Kansas State), Tristan Vizcaino (Washington), and Ramiz Ahmed (Nevada). Bass, who made a meager 20 of 28 field goal tries last year at Georgia Southern, would make a decent fantasy option in Week 1. Buffalo is a 6.5-point home favorite against the Jets.
