The Official Kicker (K) Thread (18 Viewers)

Cardinals signed K Matt Ammendola.

Ammendola filled in as a practice squad elevation with Matt Prater (hip) sidelined in Week 5. This signing suggests the Cardinals expect Prater to miss more time. Ammendola made both of his extra points and one field goal last week but missed a potential game-tying kick with just 22 seconds left in the game.

Matt Prater (hip) did not practice on Wednesday.

Prater has not practiced since suffering a hip injury in Week 4. The Cardinals also added Matt Ammendola to the active roster on Wednesday, suggesting Prater is going to miss more time.

Robbie Gould (knee) did not practice Wednesday.

This DNP is not a great sign for Gould's availability this week, and the 49ers signing Sam Sloman to the practice squad is another indication Gould will sit. Sloman will be a decent fantasy option if he gets the start.

49ers signed K Sam Sloman to their practice squad.

This has been a precursor over the last few weeks for a kicker deactivation -- and there have been a ton of injured kickers in fantasy leagues so far. Robbie Gould is dealing with a knee bruise and could be an inactive candidate for Week 6. Sloman was with the Steelers in training camp and hit 11-of-13 field-goal attempts for the Rams and Titans last year while missing four of 35 extra points.

Jake Elliott (ankle) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

Elliott missed Week 5 after going down with an injury in the ankle of his kicking leg. Rookie kicker Cameron Dicker took his place in Week 5. Dickerson nailed both of his extra points and both of his field goals. If Elliott misses another week, Dickerson is a solid streaming option at kicker.
Oct 12, 2022, 4:20 PM ET

Harrison Butker (ankle) returned to practice Wednesday.

Butker has been out since suffering the ankle injury in Week 1. The Chiefs initially replaced him with Matt Ammendola, but his stint in Kansas City didn't last long. He was eventually replaced by Matthew Wright, who is 3-of-4 on his field goal attempts this year. Butker, once healthy, will be a strong fantasy option behind one of the league's best offenses.

Lions signed K Sam Ficken to their practice squad.

With Michael Badgley coming off a 4-for-4 game in Week 5 also on the practice squad, the Lions will engage in a protracted kicker battle over their bye week. If only Hard Knocks were able to capture this as well.

I’m sitting here about to drop Allen Robinson for my kicker this week. (Grabbed Eno earlier this week, so no more room for the dud that is Robinson)

Who’s the play this week?

I like Elliot against a Dallas defense that may hold the eagles out of the endzone.

Good kickers like Koo abd McLaughlin go against some really tough defenses.

Amendola against a paper thing Sea defense sounds nice but I already have Murray and Eno.

I hate kickers.

I also hate Allen Robinson. Your welcome to everyone who owns him for he will now blow up this week after I drop him.

Elliot is a good start if he has no lingering issues from his ankle injury which sidelined him last game. In the SEA-ARI game, I like Myers more than Amendola. Geno has been cooking.

Steelers ruled out K Chris Boswell (groin) for Week 8 against the Eagles.

Boswell was a late week addition to the injury report with a groin injury, likely indicating something popped up during the practice week. The Steelers don't hold a kicker on their practice squad, leaving the situation currently up in the air for Sunday. Expect the team to announce a signing prior to Week 8's 1pm EST kickoff.

Be something else for Dicker if the Steelers signed him to play against the Eagles.

ROS:
  • Elliott (already had bye)
  • Gano (WK 9)
  • Folk (WK 10)
  • Koo (WK 14)
  • Lutz ((WK 14)
Love Elliott’s schedule & no bye week to cover, but…lots of PATs, but FGAs…not so much.

Gano seems like the chalk play here. In terms of floor/consistency, Lutz over Folk. Koo is kind of boom/bust.

Thoughts?

I picked up Elliott last week in one league due to their remaining schedule, so I agree there. I think Gano is the best choice after that, the Giants are playing well. The other 3 are fine options also, I would probably hesitate to use Folk except against weaker opponents, so he would be more of a streamer for me.

Acquired T Bass in two leagues so it is set it and forget it from here on out barring an injury. I've used this strategy with kickers and defenses when strong players or teams have an early bye week. It avoids a drop and stream. So, I could be adios from the kicker thread lol. Last move was dropping Carlson to pick up Bass. Carlson will likely get snapped up, but the way the RAIDERSSSSS looked last week, p u lol. It's just one week and Carlson has been stellar. I feel Bass is an upgrade to continue to get chances. I don't see teams like BUF or KC, PHI crapping the bed very often like LV did.

That really hasn’t bothered him.

If it was blowing 25+ and gusting over 35 I might pivot and keep Bass on the bench dropping my least scoring player, but then again maybe not. He's not a drop by any means. BUF will find a way to score points. Listening to Allen having a bad taste on how they finished off the game tells a lot about this team that has the Super Bowl win in their sights staying present each week, each play as the most important play. In the NOW. I like BUF to win it all if injuries are kept at bay. But, so does Vegas LOL.

I always thought it was the visiting team’s problem since they don’t get to kick in those winds much. This time of year I like to carry two kickers for this reason.

I can understand that. Depends upon the size of the bench. At 5 bench players carrying two kickers seems a bit rich for my blood. I'd probably go back to streaming. At 7 bench players that changes the strategy a lil bit more and allows for more options.

Edit: once bye weeks for a team has passed or it's looks all clear then perhaps.

Chargers coach Brandon Staley said Dustin Hopkins (hamstring) is week to week.

Hopkins battled through the hamstring injury to kick four field goals in the Chargers' Week 6, overtime win. After the game, Staley said he would miss 2-4 weeks. Coming out of the bye week, it looks like the Chargers will be without their primary kicker for Week 9. Taylor Bertolet, currently on their practice squad, will likely be called up for Sunday.

Argh, picked up Prater with Maher on bye and now HE'S questionable....
He should be good. I was scouting for a K to cover McPherson next week and decided on Prater. He had a hip injury wk 4, missed 3 weeks, was brought back last week for field goals and XPs while they had Blankenship handle kickoffs. They waived Blankenship today so Prater should be good to go for the fantasy relevant stuff (FG/XP). Prater was 2/2 on FG and 2/2 on XP wk 8.

From ESPN blurb:
This follows comments from coach Kliff Kingsbury earlier Wednesday that Prater was fully cleared for all kicking duties moving forward. That likely will be the case Sunday versus the Seahawks and beyond, especially after the Cardinals waived Rodrigo Blankenship (undisclosed) with an injury settlement, but Prater's activity level now will be watched as the weekend approaches to see if he can add kickoffs to his placekicking.

Chargers signed K Cameron Dicker to their practice squad.

They also sent fill-in kicker Taylor Bertolet to the practice-squad injury list. This likely suggests that Dicker will fill in as Chargers kicker this week while Dustin Hopkins (hamstring) continues to heal up from his heroics in Week 6.

Elliot is a clown. Hes going to cost them in the playoffs.

I was puzzled before the half though. Hurts gets to the 37 and slides with 11 seconds left. Why let the time run down and call a TO w/ 3 seconds left. Call w/ 11- run one more play to squeeze out 5-10 more yards. If its not there, throw it away.

As an Eagles fan, I was thinking the same exact thing.

Folk was dropped today, on bye this week, has 30 pts the last 2 games, ranked #3 in our league.

I've carried McPherson all season and he has been a disappointment due to lack of FG, but I have Burrow so he has been a sort of hedge knowing that every time the Bengals cross the 40 yd line I should either get 5 pts from a TD/XP or 3-4 pts for a FG. With Chase being out indefinitely the FG opportunities may increase the next month.

Prater is my whatever bye week start for McP, going up against Seattle this week who he had his best game of the season against last month.

Is Folk a set it and forget it, grab him now kicker? They usually go for $0-$2 on the waiver wire but I am thinking of dropping $4 just lock him up for the ROS. (and dropping McP)

What are folks hearing about the weather in San Francisco?
I am considering picking up Gould, but have heard the weather may be an issue for him on Sunday.
Any updates?

This offense is starting to get healthy and could really turn around. Don’t know s-h about the weather but like Gould ROS.

Rolling with Folk this week but a bit worried about the 19 mph wind in Foxborough.

Lutz and Slye are two widely available kickers with excellent matchups this week.

Don't like him this week but Cade York is a guy I've been looking at for a great playoff schedule. Really WK 13 onward:
  • 13. at HOU (9th most FF points allowed to Ks)
  • 14. at CIN (1st)
  • 15. BAL (19th)
  • 16. NO (2nd)
  • 17. at WAS (21st)
Jason Meyers and Ryan Succop - both on bye this week, probably were dropped - also have great schedules ROS except for one week (both play SF, 32nd in FF pts allowed to Ks.)

Thanks to the poor TB running game, Succop has been gold all year.

Roll;ing with Gano today

I see someone dropped York and he’s in a dome today…

I try to avoid Ks with matchups against teams who don't allow a lot of FGA.

Then again, Tucker, Butker and Zuerlein all put up double digits on them. Their ranking here is trending the wrong way; first 5 weeks they gave up 4.60 / g, but it's been 8.50 since - 10th most. ****, I think I just changed my mind mid-sentence.

Good call brother man. That is a better matchup than I realized.

I think Buffalo doesn’t allow many FGs because teams are chasing points and FG’s mean less in that scenaro. Cleveland is pretty good at dictating tempo with Chubb.

Personally I think this line should be Buffalo -3, its a neutral field.

Chargers elevated Cameron Dicker from the practice squad. In 3 callups (1st was in Philly when Elliott was hurt) he's gone 9, 8 and 12 (9.67 /g.) He's 5/5 on XP and 7/7 on FG with 3 over 40. KC has given up the 13th most FF points to Ks this year.

Game script is fr.

Alos, as discussed upthread somewhere, you need coaches who think like Arthur Smith or Lovie Smith - more apt to settle for the FGA than go for it on 4th and short. The really good offenses (PHI, KC, BUF, MIA, DAL, TEN) want to keep drives going rather than K 50 yarders. Whereas **** offenses like TB, IND, PIT, NE, DEN, ATL, both NJ teams - OMG points yes please.
