The Perfect Draft (1 Viewer)

The article by David Dodds in the FBG Magazine on "The Perfect Draft" is one of the best FFB articles I have read in a long time. I'm tempted to call it, "The Perfect Article." It was simple and clear about its recommendations. It was customized to this year's landscape, not one of these "Here is a philosophy that is so good, you can apply it this this year and every year!" There is not much doubt that with these recommendations clearly in your mind you could have a whale of a draft. Great writing!!

Thanks Gunnar. In August, I will update this article for subscribers and apply it to different league sizes, auctions, etc. Glad you enjoyed the piece and hope it helps you have a "perfect draft" in your leagues.

I really suck today. Can't find this thing anywhere. Link anyone?

ETA: Nevermind, it's in the magazine, not the site. :coffee:

David... A request, if I may, can you tailor it to a 16 team league this year. I know you've done 10, 12, 14, Auction and WCOFF (I think those are the 5) in the past. But, I'd really like to read your thoughts on a larger league. No worries if you can't... I'll just take Jason Hanson at 1.16 - What? That wouldn't be a good idea... See... See how much I need the article.

:coffee: I realize most owners are involved in 10 or 12 team leagues, but a it would be interesting to see how an expert views a 16 team draft.

I realize it's tough to do, but is there any possible way to incorporate these concepts into an autopick league?

Looks like you may be up to about 20 different versions this year.

Please try to get the updates for the main ones out on time this year though. :coffee:

David.. So, you decided to not follow the "Perfect Draft" in the Mock?

IMO you would have been better off following that article

I do not know which Mock you are talking about so it's hard for me to answer this. But I think I crushed the two drafts I mocked yesterday so interested to hear why you think either of my two drafts were weak.

The one in the magazine... I don't have it with me right now but, I believe you went Brady early and Dallas Clark early and then were a little light at RB and WR IMO... The Henry pick was unfortunate...Plus, as I remember 4 of your top 5 picks had the same bye, if that matters to you? But, I'll have to check that when I get home.

:blackdot: The Perfect Auction from a few years ago was great stuff! An updated version this year would be much appreciated (as would any more additional auction-related content)

Oh the mock in the magazine. Gotcha. From the 7th hole I took Gore and then got Brady on the return (That's not early for Brady in my opinion). I did take Dallas Clark in the 7th and rethought that after the draft (I did the Perfect draft about a week after this draft). I see great things for Clark, but I agree there is better value by waiting. I still think this draft was pretty good (outside of Travis Henry who was still the starter when we did the magazine). My final roster: QBs: Tom Brady, Vince YoungRBs: Frank Gore, Laurence Maroney, Travis Henry, Sammy MorrisWRs: Wes Welker, Roy Williams, Kevin Curtis, Ted Ginn, Deion Branch, James Jones, Demetrious Williams and Lavelle HawkinsTEs: Dallas Clark and Tony SchefflerPK: Nick FolkDef/ST: BearsBetween the mock draft and writing the perfect draft article I definitely flushed out my strategy better.

just curious, but has anyone found it or any version from this year on the site yet? or is it only in the magazine?

Only in the magazine right now. I plan to record a version of it for the Audible next week and will start penning the written versions for the website within a few weeks

BumpJust inquiring as to when the Perfect Draft articles will be available to subscribers. Thanks.
Ditto that.Because of schedule conflicts with draft members, a lot of leagues are having drafts in mid-to late August. If I remember correctly, last years online Perfect Draft (for subscribers) came out at the very end of August, after the time many people draft. Is there anyway you can get this out by August 15th or so? That would be greatly appreciated.

Please don't let us down again David, auctions and drafts are fast approaching, thanks in advance!
David's had some issues to deal with lately so I'll understand if he hasn't got around to this yet -- I'd just like an anticipated timeline when they may start being made available. Thanks.

It's already been published in the mag... I don't see how it could be difficult to just cut and paste it for the subscribers. Unless there are major revisions that go into it.

Why not do your own version. I like the concept of the article but unless your league fits exactly with the league the article was written for you won't actually have the perfect draft.

The first versions are coming very soon. There are major revisions since it compares current projections with current ADP when looking for value.

Could you please put the Perfect Auction on the front burner too?I would think it would make more sense to start with the 12 Team and Auction than just a bunch of 12 Team variations. And sorry David but please don't look at this as piling on, look at it as the masses clamoring for your great work. :-)

:X My 2 auctions will be over by the time it posts but I am still interested in reading them for future info. Lots of room for improvement for me on the auction front. :goodposting:

David,

Any update on when these are coming out? Look forward to reading them every year and drafts are firing up soon.

Thanks

David, is there any chance of a 16 team version? (Apologize if I've missed it.)

David,

Long-time subscriber, 1st time follower of the Perfect Draft.

I was in 2 leagues this season, a 10-team and a 12-team league. I followed your Perfect Draft almost to a T in both. In my 10-team league, I was 1st in points and got money back for that. In my 12-team league, I blew away everyone. I finished 14-3, had a 3 game lead at the end, and I only had to make 5 pickups all year.

I think the biggest difference for me was getting away from RB, RB on my 1st 2 picks. I had always followed this philosophy since I started playing back in '93. The last few years, I hadn't done so well with my draft or my teams. I followed your advice and had great success this year. I just wanted to give you a big thanks!!

I will definitely follow your Perfect Draft advice from now on!!

Curt

Two years in a row I've followed David's article, including several of his very specific player reccomendations.

The result? Two championships.

Many thanks David. I couldn't have done it without you!

i followed it in one (as well as used the Dominator), and got second, though i shouldve won (bad call last minute with all the bad weather), auto drafted accidentally in another and didnt make the playoffs, even with many many waiver moves.

between the two leagues i wound up $24 in the plus on the season, which is great considering i couldve been down close to $150 (and i had a lot of fun in the process!!!)

Cheers!!

BAM
