One of Moss' teamates on Sportscenter just made a great point:For years, Favre did the throat slash gesture, yet nobody makes a big deal about that.Moss due to his image and(I hate to say it but..) race gets blamed more than Favre...and I actually think Favre's gesture is much worse.
This is absolutely incorrect. Favre did the throat slash - ONCE (not "for years"). It was against Detroit and it was in response to one of the Detroit DB's doing the "throat slash" move in a game earlier in the season. Not agreeing with the move but to make it sound as if he did this on a regular basis is flat out bad information......
I apologize then if the info was incorrect. Nevertheless, the point stands. Favre did a gesture which I think is much worse, yet because hes white and well liked he gets off the hook.
Always the race card. Phenomenal.
I'm not black, and I rarely bring up race, but I clearly see this as a racial issue. Why do Plummer and Favre get off with their gestures yet ESPN constantly reminds us of TO, Moss, and Horn?
Gee, I don't know. Maybe it's because they aren't repeat offenders?Besides, I think your premise is way off; Plummer and Favre have been crucified for their actions (Favre less so because it was in conjunction with a number of players, including Watters, Keyshawn, Akili and others, who were all doing the throat slash and getting flak for it right alongside Favre. The fact that we remember Favre and not the others might indicate quite the reverse is going on than bringin' the man down). I seem to remember Favre getting hammered big time for his pain-killer addiction. Other white dudes who didn't get off the hook:Ryan LeafJohn RockerThe "Big Jerk"...err...Big UnitJason KiddAnd on and on it goes. Seems like a case of selective memory to me. Seems like a race issue being raised when, yet again, it's irrelevant.
