One of Moss' teamates on Sportscenter just made a great point:For years, Favre did the throat slash gesture, yet nobody makes a big deal about that.Moss due to his image and(I hate to say it but..) race gets blamed more than Favre...and I actually think Favre's gesture is much worse.
This is absolutely incorrect. Favre did the throat slash - ONCE (not "for years"). It was against Detroit and it was in response to one of the Detroit DB's doing the "throat slash" move in a game earlier in the season. Not agreeing with the move but to make it sound as if he did this on a regular basis is flat out bad information......
I apologize then if the info was incorrect. Nevertheless, the point stands. Favre did a gesture which I think is much worse, yet because hes white and well liked he gets off the hook.
Always the race card. Phenomenal.
I'm not black, and I rarely bring up race, but I clearly see this as a racial issue. Why do Plummer and Favre get off with their gestures yet ESPN constantly reminds us of TO, Moss, and Horn?
Gee, I don't know. Maybe it's because they aren't repeat offenders?Besides, I think your premise is way off; Plummer and Favre have been crucified for their actions (Favre less so because it was in conjunction with a number of players, including Watters, Keyshawn, Akili and others, who were all doing the throat slash and getting flak for it right alongside Favre. The fact that we remember Favre and not the others might indicate quite the reverse is going on than bringin' the man down). I seem to remember Favre getting hammered big time for his pain-killer addiction. Other white dudes who didn't get off the hook:Ryan LeafJohn RockerThe "Big Jerk"...err...Big UnitJason KiddAnd on and on it goes. Seems like a case of selective memory to me. Seems like a race issue being raised when, yet again, it's irrelevant.
Jason Kidd is 1/2 black. The Randy Johnson thing is going away...I don't see anyone saying what a jerk he was or refusing to show his actions on tv because they were so disgraceful. In fact, I never heard one ESPN reporter call out Johnson for being such a jerk.Ryan Leaf and John Rocker were simply morons and did things far worse than anyone else in this conversation.Repeat offender?? When has Moss celebrated too much before? Or when had Horn celebrated before the cell phone incident? Those are the only times I remember those two having excessive celebrations.
Guess you didn't see the front page of the New York Post two days ago. In, like, 740 font size were the words: "The Big Jerk" with Randy's mug below it.Moss's issues aren't celebrations. They're the marijuana stuff, the running over a police officer with his car when getting a ticket, the comfort he found in telling folks he took plays off when he felt like it, the walking off the field away from his teammates. But, I'm sure these repeat offenses are absolutely no problem to you.Yeah, so Rocker and Leaf were morons. Just like our friends who are part of this discussion. They got their just due; why you got a problem with Randy and your boys getting theirs? Besides, I thought you weren't one to "judge" others.

From today's Chicago Sun Times:Quote from Mike Martz on Green Bay's supposedly awesome fans:"If you've ever been on that team bus pulling out of Green Bay, what's said to you and thrown at you, I've never been in a situation so brutal and rude and crude as that place." "Oakland can't hold a candle to this place".Seems like the Lambeau Faithful are not all angels as people would have them be.I will add though, all teams have some fan behavior like this. I do not think Moss should have done what he did, but I laughed my a@# off when he did it! And no, I am not a Viking or Packer fan.

Not that I defend any of this conversation. Some of the facts are wrong here but the general point is correct.Favre comes up from behind in that game and shoves a player. If Moss does it, he is ejected, guaranteed. Is Favre ejected? NO! Heck, not even a yellow flag! Granted, what happens to Moss, he probably has coming to him.I do not think race is an issue, I do think that Farve and the "Lambeau Mystique" are an issue.

I have no idea what Martz and Dungy are talking about. There IS NO mooning tradition at Lambeau. Even the Viqueens owner has gone out of his way to write a letter to the Packers' security lamenting them for their nice work. McCombs' letter

For several years, former Brown County Sheriff Tom Hinz has been working as a security officer for visiting football teams that come to Lambeau Field to play the Green Bay Packers. Not too long ago, he received a note from Minnesota Vikings owner Red McCombs who called Hinz and his colleagues the best visiting security force in the league. We offer this as evidence of Hinz’s credibility as we discuss Moongate and the conduct of Packers fans.
