The Redskins will beat the Eagles (1 Viewer)

Not sure how the Redskins will become the Eagles, like your title suggests, but even if they do, they won't win this game. They put up over 20 points for the first time this season on a beat up Giants team. How have the Redskins improved that much since the last time the two teams met one week ago?

No way, no how. I guess it is technically "possible" for the Redskins to beat the Eagles. However, I wouldn't go on the record saying it was gonna happen. I think the game will be closer than a lot of people think it will be, but the Eagles will win by around 10 points in Week 14. That said, I have the Redskins D, McNabb and Westbrook going in the playoffs, so I'm feeling a little conflicted right now.......

Let's see...Eagles have rolled over every NFC opponent by 10 points or more, and can taste homefield advantage in the next few weeks. I would think by now you would realize that they aren't going to fall prey to a trap game.Also...you've got the league's toughest scoring defense against the league's worst scoring offense, this is as big a mismatch as I've ever seen in NFC East play.

Didn't we just go through this a few weeks ago?The Eagles toyed around with the Skins until the 2nd half before they put them away. They were susceptible then, but not this time. The Eagles will put the Skins away early this time around.jwvdcw I like that you post a lot and that you try to contribute a lot to the boards, but I can't help thinking that you are like that kid who never gets enough attention. You try to hard.

How many times have you started a thread:______ will beat the Eagles
Not sure about jwvdcw, but I'll guarantee Merrill Hodge will go with the Redskins this week. If the season went according to him, the Birds would be 0-12 right now  I wonder if he'll still have the Falcons and Packers ranked above Philly in his next power ranking. The man has some serious hate for the Eagles this year. Even when Philly was 8-0, he was predicting an 8-8 finish and no playoffs!

first year following the game?
Show me another instance where an NFC East team was THE dominant NFC franchise, leading the NFC in scoring, leading the NFC in points allowed, leading the NFC in point differential....playing a division opponent who was last, BY FAR, in scoring.

The NFC as a whole hasn't been this down since the merger, so to dominate it is less impressive than to dominate it when it is solid. Although I'm not a big-time gambler, I'd put more stock in what the Vegas line was for evaluating mismatches. You're cherry picking some stats, but leave a lot on the table. What's the early line - 9 points? You're calling that a mismatch of historical proportions??? I usually agree with your writings, but that's just ridiculous.

Weren't you the guy who said the Ravens would easily beat the Pats???
Come on, lets not exaggerate to much:I titled my post, "The Ravens will beat the Pats", but my first post read:Or at least I hope so.This should be a great test for them, and we'll see whether or not they belong in the top tier of teams. They already have a win over Pittsburgh, and if they beat NE as well, then they have to be considered up there with any other NFL team.Jamal Lewis might be out, however, which is huge. This could be a big test for Boller if Lewis is out. He has been improving as of late.I'd offer to do a sig bet if anyone wanted to...but are there even any Pats fans here?Edit: See page 3 for more details on the sig bet. Sig from the NE fans is due by 3:00PM EST today. I'll get the Ravens fans sig in by that time as well. This post has been edited by jwvdcw on Nov 28 2004, 10:18 AM Thats hardly saying "The Ravens will easily beat the Pats." I even really admitted in my first sentence that I wasn't too confident.

Honestly...I'm just trying to have fun. I realize that I post a lot and that can get on some people's nerves, but to those people I say: Don't read my threads. And its not like I'm the biggest poster or anything(I think I'm somewhere around #15 on number of posts, but I havn't checked in a long time so I'm not sure).Look...I realize the Eagles are heavy favorites. But I'm a Skins fan trying to get something out of this season and beating the Eagles would give me something to be proud of. Again- I'm just trying to have fun.

Just to defend JW, I think he was talking specifically about the Eagle's D vs the Redskins O as the 'biggest mismatch hes ever seen", although I'm not certain.Personally, I'm hoping that the Skins O has finally 'broken out.' We all know there is some talent there and Gibbs can coach...its only a matter of time, before they become successful. Remember how it went in his first year: Bad start, finish strong and have momentum carry over to next year.P.S. The Skins could still make the playoffs!!

Ya know...I really don't care who wins...but I sure would like to see McNabb & Westbrook kept to within reason ....When they played Washington a couple of weeks ago...both of them had good games. They both had GREAT games this past week....Hopefully, they take a breakNow, I can accept the fact that McNabb is going to toss a few TD's....but I hope that Westbrook takes it easy! The team I play in Round 1 of the playoffs has both these guys!

Hmm........is jwvdcw an alter-alias of LHUCKS? I don't remember seeing a FBGs chatter have to reply to just about every post made to one of their own since LHUCKS was trying to convince all of us that he/she was the Golden God of fantasy football....... :P Aw, just kidding folks. Happy holidays, everyone!

Apparently Woodrow has forgotten that the Cardinals used to call the NFC east home until a couple years ago.
Fair enough...hyperbole aside, I said it's as big a mismatch, meaning it was right up there with others from the past, not that it is THE biggest mismatch.Ultimately my point was, the Eagles are as strong as any NFC team in memory (relative to the rest of the NFC) and the Skins are among the conference's worst. The only way this game is close would be injuries and a complete lack of focus.

1991 would come to mind. The Redskins were on their way to going 14-2 and winning the Super Bowl. The Cowboys were winless and on their way to a 1 win season. The win was against the Redskins.

:wall: NO, NO, NO, NO, NO. Those were two different years. The Redskins were 11-0 in 1991 when they lost to Dallas, but that was not the year Dallas went 1-15 with their lone win being against Washington. Dallas was 1-15 in 1989. They were 11-5 in 1991 and one game away from facing Washington in the NFC Championship.Regardless, the Eagles suck.

Although your recollection is a bit off, the year looks like a good one. Washington was 14-2, leading the league in points scored and were 2nd in points allowed, and faced off against the Phoenix Cardinals (4-12) , who had the 2nd worst offense in the league.

I guess you forgot that the skins were a TD & 2-point conversion away from tieing Philly, early 4th quarter action, what - 3 weeks ago? And that was the game where Gibbs applied a veritable straight-jacket to Ramsey, in his first start of the year.Yeah, I'm impressed. Please resume your endless hyperbole.

So, which one was it in Philly: injuries or a complete lack of focus? And don't tell me that game wasn't close. Washington had a first and 10 early in the fourth down 14-6. It was a complete lack of focus on Washington's part that pushed them back 20 yards and they missed a 48-yard FG. It was Ramsey's first start of the year; the first week he took a significant amount of snaps in practice. Gibbs called an extremely conservative game plan. Remember all those crappy WR screens? After the missed FG, there was a failry questionable PI call on Smoot on 3rd and 10. Then, for the first time all year, the Redskins D lacked focus. Just looking at the score tells you very little about that game. And, that PA stat you quote is a little misleading if you want to discuss defensive play. The Redskins offense and ST have given up a hefty chunk of those points. While they did give up a ST TD yesterday, there offense has really cut down on their mistakes.Don't get me wrong, I think the Eagles will win. But, to suggest this is some cakewalk is ridiculous.

if you want to discuss defensive play
no less an authority than Jerome Bettis, after getting beat up by the Skin D, proclaimed them the best Pitt had faced all year (and they'd already played Philly).

Has it gotten so bad in Redskins Nation that you're reduced to arguing the semantics over a 28-6 loss? So there's something positive to take away from the fact that although you lost by 22 points, it was close for a while?Wow...a LOT different than the last time Joe Gibbs was running the show. :rotflmao:

No one is denying the Skins have a good defense. The fact is they have a horrid offense. Just because they produced against an equally horrid Giants defense doesn't make them suddenly great.

no, we're reduced to correcting faulty memories from bird-brained fans who like to use emoticons like a yellow face guy swinging his head back & forth ...has it gotten so bad in Eagle Nation that fans are taking what they can get NOW from a smack-talk perspective, because they FEAR the inevitable annual choke and the fact that they have NEVER won a Super Bowl?

good posting, but they have won a super bowl IIRC(1981 I think??).

Sadly,Crispus is correct, the Birds have never won a Super Bowl. We lost to Oakland the year in question (at the time, that was the first time a wild card team won the Bowl  )

Then you should be all over Philly only giving 9 points this week. I understand your point, but this game isn't even double digits on its spread.

No, lost to the Raiders in SBXV.After reading this thread, I hear Joe Gibbs is going to petition the NFL to have a side note included in the standings. He wants an asterisk placed next to the week 11 loss that reads "But we were really close for 3 quarters". And to think, by the end of the game the Redskins were actually within 3TDs, 2 PATs, and one measely 2-pt conversion of sending the game into overtime.

They DID win 3 NFL Championships though before it was the "Super Bowl". 1948, 1949, and 1960. 2 of those back in the Greasy Neale days...the previous holder of the "most wins" record before Reid passed him this weekend.

It's still unlikely, but what would happen to the spread if Lavar played? Still comfortable with giving nine? I assume he'd be limited in the number of snaps if he's even healthy enough to go.Link

Jason,I agree with you that the Eagles should beat the 'Skins, but I think you're also whistling through the graveyard about this game a bit. This is a classic trap game for a team in Philly's position. Even if they lose this game they still all but have home field advantage all but wrapped up. So I could easily see them failing to put out their best effort. You're also talking about season long (terrible) stats for the 'Skins offense when you should probably place more weight upon their recent performances with Ramsey and the fact that they're improving. The players on the 'Skins were talking differently after this last game about having "clicked" for the first time all season. Performances even from a few weeks ago mean next to nothing when predicting their future performances IMHO. Finally, the 'Skins have a dominant defense. The Pittsburgh coaches according to Mike Wilbon all agreed that their defense was the toughest they'd seen, and they'd played NE, Philly and Baltimore by that point. That defense is capable of holding Philly to under 20 points, especially if the offense can be productive at all and hold onto the ball long enough to give the defense a breather. I think this game is going to be decided by under 7 points, one way or the other.

This is a classic trap game for a team in Philly's position.
This line gets used every week when we talk about Philly. Which games exactly are not trap games?

Does it really matter whether the eagles win or not? The eagles will most likely choke for the 4th straight year in the playoffs again!!! And if by some lucky chance they do make it to the super bowl will they really be able to beat an AFC team?? I doubt. There are definitly 3, but maybe 4 teams that would stomp the eagles if they played. The way I see it is the eagles can win or lose whatever but they WON'T win the big one. Sucks to be an eagles fan IMO!!!!! :brush:

...and it'll suck worse to be a Colts fan when the team moves in the middle of the night again to LA.

Halfway through the fourth quarter, this game won't be decided. The Redskins' season just began.

After a quick glance at the schedule, Giants week 1; Minny week 2; @ Cleveland; Baltimore; @ Pittsburgh, Green Bay, and probably at least the first games against division foes Dallas and Washington. Keep deluding yourself, but the Iggles haven't played an essentially meaningless game against a team with all of the statistical disadvantages that the 'Skins have.
