Tefertiller lists the overvalued players for this week, and has Slaton as a prime exhibit.

Bob Henry lists the strong sleepers, and has Slaton as a prime exhibit.

You pays your money and you gets your choice.

I think that's why the website is called Footballguys instead of The Football Guy and even though we will get competing opinions on some things I'd rather have a group of experts throwing out their opinions than just one guy.

"Experts" is a relative term imo.

That's nothing. If anyone actually read my articles, they'd see that I contradict myself (sometimes within the same sentence)!

What would be the point of everyone agreeing? Personally, I can't even remember the last time I looked at rankings or projections (I subscribe more for the data and the pre-draft stuff), but I figure that anyone who has been here for a couple years at least has some they tend to side with and others they don't.

Suprised it took this long to have threads like this. The web site usually is filled with contrarian opinions . . . from the rankings to the emails to the articles to message board posts, etc. The sharkier subscribers and posters also would have noticed that there are different articles by staff members arguing BOTH SIDES of an argument.

You guys are slacking. It took until Week 11 to discover this.

I often wondered why we would release stuff that seemed to butt heads, but it's the opnion of many vs presenting a single unified opnion that seems to work well.

My biggest question has always been why someone like Dodds would have players ranked 1-2-3-4-5 preseason but for season projections they might be projected at 1-4-5-3-2. I guess thinks will never align perfectly, even if it's info and content coming from the same person . . .

A few weeks ago, people would have scoffed at the idea of Slaton as a "sleeper". The fact that he can credibly be listed as one shows how much his value has fallen. Everyone loves that IND matchup for RBs, but its not as juicy with Sanders in, and Slaton has worn down. So Slaton is overvalued when compared to the common perception of his value, which might not have caught up to reality, BUT if you are valuing him correctly (and the IND matchup), Henry is saying, don't get too discouraged, he's still a good sleeper (after all he had a long TD called back last week).

Makes perfect sense to me

This is one reason why pre-season Faceoffs are so popular. Each of us takes a side and argues the positive and the negative.Rarely is a player without pluses or without minuses. It'd be incorrect not to point out both and let the reader decide in some instances.Contrarian opinions are welcome here, especially if they have thought-provoking justifications of their reasons for that stance.

I fail to see the issue at all.

The only regular series I really question is the "matchups". Even then it's not the "good", "bad", "terrible" rankings as much as the uninspired writeup accompanying them. Fo example, Team C put up 150 yards rushing on team B last week, so team A has a great matchup. HUH?....then you notice that team C had a quick 14 point lead thanks to special teams, and ran the ball a ridiculous 42 times. 150 yards on 42 carries isn't exactly a horrific beatdown.

FWIW...the article still does the job, and clearly states it isn't meant to replace common sense o the cheetsheets. I jut wish a little more though went into the context of the write-ups.

OK, I'll ask: what makes those two contradictory? An overvalued player is simply a guy who isn't expected to produce up to his normal standards (i.e., is below his season ranking). A sleeper is somebody who is not expected to do well but may be a good risk if you have to take a shot. If Slaton isn't expected to produce at his normal level (RB #2), he's overvalued. However, he can still be worth taking a shot with if you're looking for a sleeper--i.e., although he's not expected to put up RB #2 numbers, he has a chance to do so.

And noticing these contradictions, though noting them perhaps in a different tone, could make for interesting thread-starters for the SP, a kind of mini face-off if you will.

those "experts" did better than the unwashed masses in Ultimate Survivor. May it's because we educate them, but their performance v. the fbg field has been gradually improving over the last five years.eta: Pasquino excluded of course :X

No issues with that at all.

NEWS FLASH

You can't you have as many contributors as FBG has, and NOT have differing opinions.

I prefer to have multiple takes/opinions on players and then make my own decision anyway.

I think it's brilliant. Cover all your bases, you know. If someone critiques FBG rankings, people can say "you are supposed to just use them as one factor to evaluate players" when someone says 1 expert has it wrong, they point to one that has it right.

Uh #######, why would you have multiple experts if they all put out the same opinion? There's more then one for a reason. I'm shocked you own a credit card, and were able to buy the FBG subscription. A thread about two people with differing opinions, wow. You should break down politics; it would blow your mind.

Some people take things way too seriously. Life is better if you find things amusing. Of course there are going to be contrarian opinions. I read most of the postings by the staff in order to fill out my knowledge base; sometimes I side with one, sometimes the other, and sometimes with neither or both.
