THE POWER OF THE DOG - 17 PTS

Doh you were supposed to wait until I was on the road to post this lol. I believe Bill Simmons called it The Power of the Nap. I get that it's slow and contemplative and most of us only saw it home surrounded byu distractions. I've seen it twice, thought it was even better the 2nd time. The twists are really well done. There are at least 2 big gay cowboy movies from the last 25 yearsthat were supposed to win Best Picture and didn't. The Power of the Dog s the dark sinister one so it's no wonder it's my preferred choice.
I liked it a lot too. My reason for not watching it a second time is me being tired of Jesse Plemons. Not a big fan outside of Game Night.

Hints for next 3:

A foreign language family comedy/drama that has a American remake from me
An awesome animated movie from me
A huge winner at the Oscars by a FFA favorite director and starring an actor that is in multiple of his other movies from ilov80s

12 Years A Slave might be the 2nd worst best picture winner this century, at least of the ones I’ve seen (there’s a handful I just had no interest in)
Care to say why you thought is was so bad?

I didn't read the bolded, and I thought of Chicago, Crash, and Return of the King and I was about to start harping on you.
Found it incredibly boring, I fell asleep.

All 3 of those you listed I liked. Not sure if you guys will rank it but Birdman was the only one i thought was worse

I have not seen
CODA
nomadland
Greenbook
Moonlight
Spotlight
The artist
The Kings Speech

FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL - 17PTS

Hey-O!

I’ve seen that movie over five times and I don’t think I’ve seen his schvantz. I think I blocked it out.

“Hey, Motumbo, mind getting out of the picture?”
LOL - is that from the red carpet flashbacks? So many great scenes and characters in this. The stupid show Bell and Baldwin star in is

Simmons was spot on. Wish I’d have fallen asleep for that one

Yeah, here is a case where we are on opposite ends. I think Crash was one worst POSs to win. No comment on if any others you list here will make in on the countdown.

Yeah, that movie hit me at the right time in my life. It was funny. I think I’d had, like, woman trouble the year before and it was actually kind of cool to see that movie. Weird. Very funny, and I’m usually not into embarrassment tingle humor where you’re embarrassed for the character yet still laugh. That usually doesn’t land with me. This movie did.

I’d totally forgotten them. Wow. And isn’t Hader and a comedienne in it? They do like Zoom calls or something?

Yeah, Hader is his BIL. He's on the zoom calls and is his wing man at the club.

I see what you did there lol

You guys might end up hitting every 21st century movie on my overrated list
Dude, if Crash is not on that I am proud of this outcome. ;)
I actually liked Crash

but I tend to like movies with interconnecting plots (like Magnolia)
I do to, but i really dislike movies that feel they need to spoon feed me their message over and over. The movie is as subtle as a kick to the nuts.

This is also why i wasn't sure if we'd get to 50%. I like many of the movies on those lists and that are up for Oscars. That is my main lean with movies.

I found Forgetting Sarah Marshall funny but it was never one of our comedies that we rewatched over and over. Not sure why, it definitely has a rewatchable quality to it.

I watched the Lego Movie after getting a dental operation and spending four days on Percocet. I was so constipated I couldn’t move. I thought it was a good movie, but circumstances. . .

Honestly, it was one that grew on me over time with a couple rewatches. I thought similar to you the first time then started going back to it more and more. Like I said at the beginning, I gravitate to movies that hit a couple spots for me and with this one it has moments of sweetness and some good connections that I believe, but it also has some raunchy and uncomfortable humor. PG-13 rom/coms tend to be too one note and not as funny to me, same with many R rated comedies. They are funny, but often miss out on personal connections that I like.

As I said with rock - the side characters and situations are what kept me coming back. The newlyweds, the dumb CSI rip off show, the employees at the hotel, Hader, on and on. Love it.

Very timely guess, keep 'em up - these Mariner fans are super smart!

Dammit, I hate watching Mariners games when Castillo is pitching. :hot:

I don't know 80s pick in our pair tonight so no hint there, but mine is a book adaptation with somebody I usually prefer behind the camera.

Yeah, the past 2+ games have been tough. Maybe we were duped by the level of recent competition---hopefully not.

Cal just answered me!

Cal comes through! Castillo is my least favorite Mariner.

Also this is part my thread - so no feeling bad for derailing with any Mariners and metal talk!!

Speaking of metal. I've probably listened to Blood Mountain about 10x in the last few days. Besides listening to my album assignments that's about all I've listened to.

During the game, im going to listen to Dio and maybe try Dream Theater.

Oppenheimer is probably another movie with not much re-watchability, for me, but it was a fantastic movie and worth watching at least that once.

Birdman is my choice for the worst Best Picture winner ever.
Chicago, Around The World in 80 Days and Nomadland would be next.

Around the World in 80 Days won in 1957 so that doesn't count.

I agree with your choice of Chicago as your runner-up for this century though. It's my least favorite of the past 25 years. Greenbook would by my 2nd least favorite. And I enjoy both of those movies---just my least favorite of the 25 options.

I love Birdman and Nomadland.

If i didn't have such a hard on for Aster, Oppenheimer would have been in it's place around that ranking. I liked it more the 2nd time around but it was as last cut because i know i would reach for Beau for a rewatch before Oppenheimer.
