Between this and me being so gun shy about starting shows due to me not liking them after a few seasons, I have missed a lot of these shows featured in the last couple days. Watchmen, Severance, White Lotus and Westworld are all ones I see praised and think I would like but didn't want to start.

While I agree with Lambskin that Andor and White Lotus haven't shown me enough to garner consideration for this list, Severance is in a whole other tier. Fascinating, brilliant television.

I knew I was taking a risk by ranking the show this high on the basis of one season, but that one season was, other than seasons from my #1 and possibly #3 shows, the best single season of television I'd seen. I was 100% captivated from the first scene. Haven't started the second season yet, because I like to binge, but from all accounts it's even better. This show has potential to rank in my top 10, or even top 5, when all is said and done.

ETA: Totally get why people wouldn't put it on their list after only one season, though, and that it's ranked accordingly.

This will probably be the one that gets me to subscribe to Apple TV

Binging keeps many shows from me until they're done. And a few should show up in the top 10-25 here I'm sure. I just prefer for some reason to watch it all once it's done at my own pace. Maybe it's mostly due to not caring/not having time for talking about TV with people live every week.

My wife and I got Hulu just to watch Justified and binged it, finishing this week. That one is definitely move up my list. Another great example of the 6-ish season limit if you want your show to be extremely high quality 100% of the way through.

Way too low for White Lotus. I understand not having people to root for isn't everyone's cup of tea, but this is one of the most smartly written shows on TV right now and it shows no signs of jumping any sharks anytime soon.
Totally agree. Another one I'm top scorer for and this and I don't mind shows not having a "true hero". Makes it more realistic, which contrasts with the unbelievably posh settings. Very diverse characters and I like having each season be 90% independent of the previous one(s). If I have to choose, I'll always choose character over action, so White Lotus fits right in my wheelhouse

I'll admit that I'm not one to stockpile episodes until the end of the season. If a new episode drops I want to see it asap. And once in a while I run into someone similar that I can talk about last night's show, just like the "good old days". Spoilers abound.

Staying home from school sick, watching The Price is Right was an American institution in the 80s when I grew up. Had to include it.
I agree with this except for the "had to include it part". I see why people had it on their lists I just don't think a game show belonged there (for me). But the institution of Price is Right when home sick from school if a vivid memory for sure. Don't forget to get your pets spayed and neutered.

There were some game shows I was pretty good at playing along to. This was not one of them  "$480 for a 10-tack of Trojan condoms? WTF, Bob?"

What is White Lotus about, and what makes it so good? Can you watch each season independently?

I have 2 weeks of Max left, and thought i might try a limited series or a show with 30mins episodes before it goes away.

This was my grandmother’s favorite show. Pity the fool that called her weekdays from 11:00 to Noon.

It’s a bunch of rich ******** on vacation. Someone dies. Hijinks ensue. Well written and acted. No likeable characters

You can watch independently but there is some minor carryover that really more of an Easter Egg than anything that would keep you from enjoying it

My first top 10!

Many many years ago, I worked the nightshift at a Days Inn. Pretty boring, with lots of time on my hands. They supplied a small tv with a few channels on it, and discovered Northern Exposure. It became a 'tradition' to go inhale some 420 and come back to the front desk and watch NE at 2:00AM.

Severance behind a game show 🤦🏽‍♂️

Well, it's a legendary game show and Severance had only had one season in when the lists were made.
Why is it legendary? Was the writing great? The acting? The cinematography?

I understand why people like it, doesn’t make it great imo

Wasn't this show like 90 minutes long?

Or did it just seem that way when I was staying home from school in the 80s?

My memory isn’t great, maybe.

That and Card Sharks and the OG Press Your Luck
My stay at home days were basically cartoon mornings and a block of game shows during the midday. Then when the soap operas came on I mysteriously felt well enough to go outside and play.

Yeah I would get so mad when General Hospital or MASH would come on

What makes it so good is the casting and writing, IMO. They are not likable characters but you have to stick around to watch the inevitable train wreck.
