The Top 300 Greatest TV Shows of All Time: FBG Consensus: 50 Lists received. 2: Seinfeld 1: Breaking Bad (7 Viewers)

I was 11 when roots came out. I remember it being a big deal, but I didn't watch. I suspect it was on during my bed time and my parents probably didn't want me to watch TV14 at that age. I remember the previews being disturbing.

I'd also have a hard time ranking mni-series like Roots and Last Dance in front of actual TV Series. When you back on the commercials, both of those are just really long movies.

Saved by the bell in the top 200 is worse than Dan ranking American cheese #1.
Can’t wait for 3 CSI shows to be in the top 10
Some of the greatest 4 minutes of television came from Horatio and that crafty csi Miami cast. I can hear The Who crashing into my life again.

Horatio, "It looks like he got more then he bargained for....."

THE WHO crashes in!!!!
“you’d have to be pretty cold to pull this off....”

“Not pretty cold frank……..GLASSES……..cold blooded…..”

YEAAAAAA!,!

All this Scooby Doo talk made me think of this movie.
Anybody who is also participating in the book draft might like THIS as well.
It's not bad, but expect a much darker story than Scoob and the gang (or scoobygang, if you will).
100%. Not "it's making my list of 70" strong recommend, but I remember liking it well enough and thinking it was a bit messed up.

I have problems like others in that thread - too often I don't remember details of the books, just a general feeling or remember recommending them to others.

Then you have a hard time with the criteria of the exercise.

Yes, you are cracked that I would struggle given the allowable criteria. It’s just so much harder to come up with a concept for a TV show that is good for 5 to 10 years/seasons versus an extended story like the last dance. We’ve seen numerous post here where people say the first few seasons were awesome. Then it fell off a cliff hence them not ranking something as highly. Extend the last dance to four or five more seasons and probably no one is watching.

I read somewhere that roots was watched by over 50% of the country when it was on. That pretty much puts it in Super Bowl territory.

I had Clone Wars the highest. My kids were the right age, we watched the movie in the theater then the entire series as it happened. Watching it with them is probably why I have such happy memories of watching it. The show itself was great for transforming the movies, but suffered from the problem of being prequels - we already saw most of the main characters in the third movie, so we know that any danger they face will be overcome. Adding Ahsoka and Ventress gave us some stakes of fairly major characters, though. Ahsoka's storyline is good, when combined with her arcs in Rebels - a showdown in that show between her and Darth Vader was built up from this entire show plus the third movie and is more powerful than any Luke story to me.

This was before the days when we could get HBO in Canada. A channel called Showcase had OZ late on Friday night. I came home late one Friday night and while channel surfing found it. It was unusual and caught my eye.
Has there been a more despicable villain than J.K. Simmons' Vernon Schillinger?
And the number of actors from this show who went on to acclaim in other iconic shows/movies is amazing. Edie Falco (The Sopranos, Nurse Jackie), JK Simmons (Spiderman, Whiplash,Law & Order), Christopher Meloni (Law & Order SVU), Mark Margolis (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul),Harold Perrineau (Lost), Lance Reddick ( The Wire), etc.
Luke Perry, Rita Moreno and Joel Grey were also part of the cast.

Is this the most lists a show has appeared on so far? SoA was heavy at times but super good. It is what makes me now just watch something automatically if Charlie Hunnam is in it.

I remember this show having a distinct drop off in quality. I can't remember the exact season or plotline where it went off the rails. But, I remember it going from must watch TV to "let's see how they wrap up this stupid thing".

I may have been the one to mess up the Clone Wars ranking and apologize if so. I had the popular series that most are thinking of ranked #13. But I also had the incredible Genndy Tartakovsky series, which is a different show entirely, at #37. The latter seems to have been mostly forgotten, but at the time it came out, some thought it was the best Star Wars material to be released in decades.

I tried to make the distinction clear in my submission, but sorry if I caused any confusion.

Early season Sons was my jam. Loved it. Still enjoyed it until the end but it definitely tailed off a bit. Where did it go wrong? Followed the exact same path as The Walking Dead. It just became too much. Way to many factions battling. Irish. Cartel. Lin Triad. Mayans. Nordics. One Niners. Etc. Etc. Way too much going on by the end. Imo

Thought I had SOA on my list but may have overlooked it. In any event, glad it got a good rating - such an enjoyable watch. Hunnam was so good.

I tried Clone Wars but it didn’t grab me. I’m not a huge Star Wars guy and seemed like it was a great show for people who are really into it, though. I could recognize that it was well done.

SOA came up earlier as that quintessential example of the show that should have quit. First couple of seasons were great, third season was fine, everything after was :fartnoise: - I did see the stupid thing through to the end, though.

Really loved this show the first four seasons. Good action, somewhat believable storylines, and solid acting. It drifted the next two seasons and then dropped off entirely. Still rated for those first few seasons.

This is the one I would have ranked. My kids (and I) loved this one. I still have this dvd.

The Clone Wars starts off rough. The first couple seasons take some effort to get through. The high points are incredible though and well worth the effort, especially the ending.

I started watching if because I play the Star Wars mobile game and got interested in the characters. Actually I think I started with rebels because of the game then went to clone wars because of the tie in. Probably should have ranked rebels. Anyway clone wars It’s hit or miss but there are some great episodes. The final few episodes with Ahsoka vs Maul are some of the best scenes in all of Star Wars

I think this show paved the way for modern tv. I don’t think there was anything like it at the time. It may have went on a little long but so many great characters.

Some of the responses to Sons of Anarchy helps me understand my higher ranking a bit. Yeah, I thought the season in Ireland was a bit dumb, but IMO it didn't drop off nearly as much as other shows I thought about. I loved it, but it was a bit cheesy to begin with, and didn't take it super seriously. Its highs weren't as high as some shows, but it didn't go True Blood off the rails, or become unwatchable like Cobra Kai and Walking Dead did for me. One of the few shows my wife and I watched all the way through and I thought it was fairly consistent through the duration. At least that was my memory when filling out the rankings, we just watched it the once.

When making my list I knew I’d have Oz on it but wouldn’t have expected to have it this high until I went through this exercise. Just a fantastic show if you can get beyond the violence. Some great characters and actors and really helped pave the way for HBO shows.

SoA would have been higher on my list if it wrapped up several seasons earlier. Like the theme of many other shows around here but I really hated the last few seasons. The only redeeming parts of the later seasons was seeing a few of the high profile people meeting Mr Mayhem.

This was probably the last show my wife and I both were like "one more episode..." x2-3 times a night lol. It did fall off bad, but was an amazing binge
