The Top 300 Greatest TV Shows of All Time: FBG Consensus: 50 Lists received. 2: Seinfeld 1: Breaking Bad (5 Viewers)

Also kind of hard to root for Moseby as all the other characters were better..
WHAT?!? Other than Lilly and Marshall, although Marshall was better than Lilly, I think...both Barney and Robin were not great people. Maybe I just identified with Ted a little and I hated how they sorta made Ted a punching bag in later seasons.
Barney
Marshall
Lilly

Ted

..
Robin
As someone already mentioned, the Robin Sparkles sidetrack lifted her in my rankings.
Its not her fault the writers threw her and Moseby together at the end.

I thought Marshall was the best character by far. Jason Segel fleshed him out beautifully.
A TV character with real heart and integrity.
His heartbreak when Lily left him for a season was very impactful.
That also dropped Lily in my rankings as she went to “find herself” breaking poor Marshall into pieces in the process.

Oh sparkles was awesome, but her character was all over the place. Hated her by the end.

Great cast indeed and very sharp writing. Neil Patrick Harris’s Barney was a terrific character.
I'm sure its not going to be ranked, but my #30 ranked show is the best work of his career, IMO.

It was Netflix's A Series of Unfortunate Events and he played Count Olaf to perfection. Our kids were in grade school when it came out and we watched every episode as a family. I think I liked it more than our kids and laughed out loud multiple times every episode. Patrick Warburton as the narrator, Lemony Snicket, was a perfect casting as well.
After the first paragraph, I thought you were heading towards Doogie Howser, M.D.

Torn on Barry. While it was very funny at times, the juxtaposition of some very dark subject matter didn't always have me finishing a show thinking "I enjoyed that".

114 Hannibal - oddly never heard of it

It's not surprising, NBC did a terrible job promoting this show.

For you, and anyone else reading this thread who hasn't seen it, it's worth searching out. I think it's even free on Pluto at the moment? Or maybe the first season is on AMC+? It's hard to keep track nowadays.

Give it a few episodes, and see if it clicks with you. It's not for everyone, for sure, but try to give it at least five episodes if you can stomach the gore. But as you watch, remember, this was on network broadcast television. In a space that's now full of NCIS's and 911's, this show was unlike anything else and in a class of its own. It could have easily been on HBO on Sunday nights without any changes. It has a lot of that same quality feel as Mindhunter, it just oozes that kind of Netflix polish and NBC was doing it years before on a weekly schedule.

I almost forgive NBC for struggling with how to segue from an episode of The Office into a show where a guy's throat is ripped open and a cello neck shoved down through his mouth so that his vocal chords could be played like an instrument, all shown in graphic detail. But every second of this show is deeply saturated with mood and tension and pathos and drama and it's all done on purpose, like a rich, succulent meal prepared by top chef, to satisfy the audience's enjoyment.

This was a show designed at its core to be savored. Yes it was 'artsy', but was done intentionally in service of that concept.

Just his meal prep scenes alone are worth it.

Mr. krista was on a kick of watching NYPD Blue several months ago (he'd never seen it), so I had a chance to revisit it. It was so much better than I'd remembered, and I already had favorable thoughts on it. What a cast! And Dennis Franz was simply brilliant.

You don't seem to have seen many of the shows mentioned so far in this countdown. I mean that in the best possible way. I am envious. It means you have done what I wish I had done, which is to stop the mindless absorption of endless tv shows.

Well, anyway, the new first couple episodes of Daredevil dropped. If you will excuse me...

Yeah I rewatched the entire series recently and it's just so well done. The weekly guest perps stole the show most weeks but the regular cast, especially Franz, was just so good as well.

I think this may have been David Schwimmer's first TV role - he was a reoccurring character in the first season.

All I remember about NYPD Blue were commercials or news reports or whatever hyping up things like "They're gonna show a BUTT on TV this week!" or "Someone will say the S-WORD!!!"

For this one I'm not 100% sure if everyone above voted for this or the original. I believe I assumed this version unless specified otherwise. It was also annoying to parse because it had that annoying character in the title. Consider this your chance to discuss all versions of Shogun.

Another one of the many pre-streaming shows I started watching and loved, but never finished and need to go back to it.

My buddy got me watching Top Chef in season 3 or 4 I think and then I went back and watched the reruns
Think we stuck with it through season 10 maybe? Not 100%

Good show but lost interest after awhile. Probably would have been somewhere 75-100 for me

John Ritter and Don Knotts were incredible physical comedians. Some episodes are worth watching just for that alone.

But the writing was bottom-of-the-barrel. Every episode was “somebody mishears something, hijinks ensue.” “That’s so Three’s Company” is now a standard phrase to describe bad TV writing.

Plus the premise is dated (people of opposite genders couldn’t get an apartment together unless they were married) and cringe (straight guy pretends to be gay, har har har).
